    the drive ....

I recall having such a great time in Hampton the night before .. still having that look in our eyes ;-) ... and about a couple of hours after the show, let’s road trip it !... so the road atlas came out ..which way .. ? straight and over on the highways?? or the direct route thru the Monongahela National Forest (?) .. the scenic route of course !! I took the first leg ... then Mike ..at sunrise, I recall looking out the bed of the truck at the steepest, most squirrelly roads I’ve ever encountered !! .. to this day it’s etched in my mind !! .. at the bottom of these STEEP ravines were tiny houses.. with smokestacks puffing out lightning ... a little tip of the hat for last nights jam.. when we pulled into the lot, the circus was already in town ... what a blast .. the Samson opener (!!!) .. was rumored to ‘test out the venue’ lol ... I guess it was one of the few times in history they opened with it ...China Doll 2nd set .. life was good .. cheers to one of the 2 (and last) West Virginia shows !

    Fun tour fun show here.
Listening to this one this morning man I love the Internet archives. So much fun to go back in time and check out any show anytime. This is a very good show was a ton of fun. What I recall from this day and night was being in the parking lot needing to take a shower after the nights before dance fest. One of us discovered that the gym was open and the showers were free (Free meaning no one using them).A bunch of us started showering think how great it was to get a nice hot shower.Just as we were enjoying the warmth we could hear cleats coming down the hall at us. Time to go!!!! Was the football team returning from practice. They did not look at all friendly after all we stinky hippies were using there showers. As many of you probably know many of us were not the cleanest smelling or looking people at the time.Running out the door butt naked getting dressed as we ran. Will never forget the look on there faces.

This show was really pretty average... the band was probably as tired as us from the long drive the night before from Hampton, but.. check out the Uncle John's Band... Jerry's jam is incredible. I challenge anyone to play me a better version. Wow!

would anyone know what show was in the early 80's at a college in Virginia or W. Virginia where when they opened either the first or second set the boys got a verse or two into the song and then had to start again. I remember a awesome High Times during the show

Indeed, the drive to Morgantown from Hampton, especially after the shellacing the band gave us in Hampton, well, it WAS a long drive... But my memory was that it was a much mellower vibe on this Sunday night. Bob takes us to church and OPENS the show with Samson... Phil was wearing a sport coat... Maybe it was like an open house weekend at the school? We all hung out pre-show with some folks that PK knew from his days at D&E in Elkins... I recall either Phil or Bob or both beckoning to the security staff to "Let 'em all down" - "Come on down close everyone" as the show must not have been sold out... Indeed, the second set highlight is the very long and spacy UJB>Playing Suite... Absolutely sublime and one to seek out for sure... Ex #12 for me...
