Okay, I could have this wrong, I isn't this Phil's Famous earthQuake super bass bomb show, where the Barbary Coast is left in ruins? I loved it Phil went nuts. It was my good friend Rich's first show. However, I seem to remember that they opened with Sugaree, hence my confusion. the next night Phil also went OFF, and cited parts of Edgar Allen Poe's 'The Raven' amidst a haze of nitrous fog.

You are correct, that was the now infamous "1906 The Barbary Coast, the wickedest place in the world" show.

"Earthquake Space" followed by "The Raven" in Baltimore the next night? Top to bottom, this is a strong show. I'm not crazy about the beginning of the 2nd set but from "Playin' " on, it's a journey to the center of the sun.

My first show...remember it well.

This was a special show for many reasons. First we slept out at LaSalle music and got front row seats and it would be the first time being that close to the band. Second it was a one of my best friends Lou's last Dead show, who had cancer.He passed on later that year and he went with his family and they all had a great time, The Dead really made it a special night for everyone, but I think it ws just for Lou. The first set was much stronger than the night before and had many high lights. The second set was very cool for all the stated reasons above, the band were having a ball and as the set continued they kept surprising the audience.Playing? Eyes was sweet. Yes, "San Fransisco the wicked place in the world" but Hartford had it moments. Phil was hilarious. Black Peter broke my heart for my friend Lou, and his Mom, who loved that song, it rarely came out of the Other One and it was aweful to understand what he was facing and feeling. I will never forget when we were walking out on the floor and he smiled when he saw me and we had that mutual "yes we were just blown away" smile. The Sugar Mag>Playing>SSDD shocked us all. We were expecting something crazy for the encore but we got the short and sweet instead. Those guys always knew how to have us coming back for more, and thank God we did.Lou LePage rest in peace bro, I miss you.

amdew122, that is truly touching and heartfelt; I am so sorry that you lost a close friend at that point in your life, but what sweet memories, eh? I am sure he will be smiling down on you still. This show just blew me away, from head to toe. Phil's earthquake space, and the Sugar Mags split by the Playin' reprise. What a great great memory of this show. The night before, I was in the rafters (looking at that brand-new roof) but this night I was in Section 4 in the middle of the floor, and what a great atmosphere - all those Yankee heads were just having a grate time... Yup, this was the insane Phil rap with attendant sound effects mimicking the SF 1906 earthquake. We are not talking about the song "California Earthquake", oh no. This is much, much more sinister and totally unique as far as I know. I luckily scored a great audience tape of this shortly after the show and have since digitized the second set. Go find it!

Like The Other One says...the bus came by and I got on and that's where it all began!!!! My buddy Anthony and I got a couple of tickets cause we heard The Dead was cool. We wore leather jackets and jeans and found a sea of tie-dye and a kaleidoscope of all colors. We found a fed drops and my mind was blown. Got lost on the way home from Hartford to Hamden, CT, oops too high!! Don't remember the show all that much as were new to the music, but the show, looking back, was kinda like many others I have seen since. I ran into my buddy Anthony from that night at a Furthur show back in 2011 and he doesn't even remember going to the show or the details of that fateful night that are etched into my consciousness to this very day. Now, because of the internet, I am able to see each and every detail of over 175 shows that remain a little "fuzzy" as I grow older and it helps to remember who I was with and how much fun we had back in those days. Has this show been released by the Dead on CD? Anyone know? Maybe parts are on the Road Trips series? Or a Dave's Picks bonus disc?
