My first show too! I was 14 years old and my friends older brother took us, we thought we were going to some punk rock show with the name "Grateful Dead" Needless to say, I was hooked, I can still remember the way everything smelled so good, and looking at these old guys on stage and wondering why are these guys so popular, look at that fat guy with the beard, wait a second he smokes on the guitar! Let's come back tomorow night and never stop!

One of our gang came straggling in at home just an hour prior to showtime due to slow service at a fast-food joint. We hauled ass to Irvine, then bounded out of the car with the recording equipment as we passed the gate to the parking lot. We could already hear the crowd and band tuning up as we ran up the hill, and managed to hold up the mikes by hand and flick the record button seconds before the opening strains of Mississippi 1/2 Step. Never miss a lick! Brent and Bob had cracked out solo acoustic sets at a SEVA benefit in Pasadena just a few weeks earlier, opposite Raitt, Crosby, Nash & Browne. Brent's "Louie Louie" rated a commendation in Bonnie Raitt's set, and here it was again tonight!
