Scarlet > Fire >Estimated >Eyes to open the second set. Althea in the first set is a favorite of mine
Best Not Fade Away ever
Set 1: Alabama Getaway > Greatest Story Ever Told, They Love Each Other, Me & My Uncle > Big River, Peggy-O > CC Rider, Bird Song, It's All Over Now, Althea > Let It Grow
Set 2: Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain > Estimated Prophet > Eyes Of The World > Good Time Blues > Drums > Not Fade Away > Stella Blue > One More Saturday Night, E: U.S. Blues
The main thing I remember was that in the second set the tempos of some of the songs were noticably slower than usual. The Scarlet>Fire, the Estimated, and especially the Eyes. This was a very boomy echoey venue. I feel like this is the reason that they played the songs so slow and under watery. They never played back at this venue. I liked it but Hampton is definately the better hall. (I just listened back at this and it is amazing how swimmy and Wacka Wacka-ie this sounds. ;))
really great show and shakedown st. we got lost after the cameron audit show the night before and decided to just drive to this one.. the hotel clerk put us on the same floor as the band and that made it all the more fun.. my bro, a tad disoriented, came back to the room where we were playing all day liars poker ( hence the disorientation ) with his cast on his arm all signed, but he was sure something was wrong cause he couldn't read them.. cause they were upside down.. errr,. signed by them facing the cast from the other direction!!
One of the worst shows I've ever attended. But, as a local, I didn't expect much anyway. Scope is notorious for it's terrible accoustics.
Also, there was just a general bad vibe that day (at least, from my own experience). Local heads were pretty disheartened over the choice of Scope over Hampton....non-head locals were nasty and seemed "put out" by our presence....everywhere you went, cops were just gunning for you. And I definitely felt the boys were frustrated over the poor acoustics.
Just NOT a stellar night, imo.
This was my 1st show and all of us were pumped as we tumbled out of the microbus when we pulled up to the venue. Pre-show preperations had been made and we were ready to rock. Unfortunately they local constabulary was doing a heavy frisk that night and when one of the girls was asked to lift her poncho- we lost our bota bag of tasty beverage to the huge garbage can full of bottles cans and wineskins. Nice thing is they still let us in- and as we were standing in line we noticed a kid dart out of the crowd inside, hit up the trash can and dart back inside- no one chased him. That gave us an idea & when our bota got scarfed up, we were game- needin' something to drink natchurly...So bravely I waded into the crowd and watched for my moment- which came soon enough and as I sprinted away with what I assumed was our snatched bota bag, I was stoked...back to tossin' back more of our tasty beverages. Problem was- it wasn't our bag- we got someone elses. Not being one to waste a good cool draught, we drank it anyway and proceeded to enjoy the show. It is a wonder we didn't get dosed on someone elses Kool-aid...and I was kinda bummed. Oh yeah- the show was excellent, too!
Alabama> Greatest story, TLEO, Uncle>river Fennario, C.C. Rider, Bird Song, All over now, Althea> Let it Grow
2nd Set..Scarlet> Fire, Etimated> Eyes > jam. Good time Blues ( sweet ) > drums > space > Not Fade away > Stella Blue> One more Sat Nite.
Does anyone remember when they brought in the German Sheperds to clear the place at the end of the show?
Was this the show where everyone was getting busted? And they took us to a big room and asked our name and address, then we had to show up a few weeks later for a hearing? I can't remember if it was this one or the Norfolk show a year before, but I bet this one. The german shepards seem to ring a bell. It was horrible. The spectrum shows the next night were not great either.
What was going on then?
Don't remember much except not having a ticket and trying to widdle my way in by sympathizers opening side-doors ... but I always got caught and was (briskly) thrown out ... the door closed and my bandana followed me seconds later ... the place sucked.
I'm sure I went to Philly afterwards ... and a Nassau show ...
