Of my 80 shows, this was my favorite and my only Dark Star. This was the night Jerry married Mountain Girl.

This was an all time blast. My second set of New Years shows. They played on and on and on. The set list was just incredible. This was by far the best Jerry performance that I have ever seen.

Great Shakedown opener - with Jerry and Brent playing off each other like nobody's business. The Playing > Terrapin > Playing Reprise > Drums > Jam > Other One > Not Fade Away > Going Down the Road Feeling Bad > Morning Dew may comprise one of the best second sets ever, and easily one of the best NYE's - amazing flow and perfection - the band and the Shabda X-Factor are one. And then you've got the Dark Star > Bertha > Good Lovin' for the icing on the cake. Ohhh yeahhhhhh.

art I waited in line over night at the Oakland BASS for tickets and scored NYE tickets for the first time in many attempts.Met some guys there who owned a bay area micro brewery and we left the line to take a tour of it and brought back a few cases to "sample".What a blast! The show itself was a let down due to some bad stuff that happened that night. When I got the tape (grade A sdb.) I couldnt believe how good it was.I think that this show wasnt on the radio, like many NYE's were,so a good tape wasnt as available as most NYE's were.I copped a 2nd gen from Menke, whom I new briefly in the 80'S,and it became my most listened to tape of all time.Go figure.I made some killer tape connections from my copy, bought a D-5,and started a new chapter in my Dead concert history."The Taping Years",from 1982-'87.Then I decided I enjoyed dancing more than taping, and could settle on second generation tapes. It's ironic how much joy this show broght me over the years after not really enjoying myself at the actual show.Happy "Gong Bong" New Years!

I went to this show with my friend Georgia. We took shrooms, smoked a shitload of pot, drank a lot of beer and all can remember is that I timed the shrooms for The Dead's first set and Joan Baez came out...now I like Joan Baez fine and have paid to see her many times before this show and since, but I was NOT expecting her and I have to say that a lot of drugs and Joan Baez do not go together well! I remember Ken Kesey hanging over the stage and finally finding Georgia standing in the front lobby where I had left her a few hours earlier. She was staring at a poster of the Grateful Dead that was on the wall between the open doors leading into the hall. She turned to me and said "They're playing really good tonight, but not moving very much." I said that I felt sick and wanted to leave, so we left... Thank you, and Stay In Touch!

Especially that huge piece of art in the lobby or a shot of the stage. If anyone would be willing to pass one along, please email me at tonemonkey at yahoo dot com. Thanks!
