Chinese New Year 1991 Gung Hay Fat Choy!
I think we made all three shows that weekend.I remember the Chinese Symphony. They were extremely good, and #ThankGoddess, my fellow DeadHeads didn't heckle them, or request China > Rider, or anything. One thing you can say about the Dead - they've turned us on to a cornucopia of cultural influences over the years/ Just check out this album: The Music Never Stopped: Roots of the Grateful Dead is a 1995 compilation album of songs, performed by the original artists https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Music_Never_Stopped:_Roots_of_the_Gra… Here's a list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Grateful_Dead_cover_versions It attributes 'Man smart, Woman smarter' to something called King Radio, but that album has a great calypso rendition, recorded by Harry Belafonte. And here's Roots of the Grateful Dead from Smithsonian Folkways; https://folkways.si.edu/roots-of-the-grateful-dead/music/playlist/smith… And here's a more exhaustive look - sort of a summary of our pal Blair Jackson's studies published in The Golden Road magazine: http://www.musicbox-online.com/gd-roots.html#axzz5SeOG7CPP There just ain't no end!

    agree with photoleon. bruce
agree with photoleon. bruce was entertaining on the europe tour, but ultimately was only a guest musician and that just made him a distraction. it was said he was bridging the gap while vince came up to speed, but that just underscores the 'not-member-of-band' role he played...
