My Sister's First and Only
My oldest sister (10 years older than me) is the one that turned me onto the Dead. My next oldest (8 years older than me) sister never listened to them. So I took her to Deer Creek. She was so excited that she kept talking about Jerry Weir and Bob Garcia. Not out of ignorance, out of excitement. My sister's and I have always been close. This brought us even closer.

Didn't notice
My most vivid memory from this show was the how incredible the Bird Song jam was to end the first set. Checking the recording later confirmed my memory. Unfortunately the recording also revealed just how thoroughly they muffed Crazy Fingers, something I definitely DIDN'T notice at the time!
Location
Yeah, I remember the Close Encounters space and Candace Brightman's light show that made it seem like we were about to be sucked up into alien spacecraft.
My first "China Doll" and even though Jerry flubbed the best line, it was pretty sweet. Only flaw was some Indiana redneck security dude on my aisle who decided to punch out a kid who was dancing a little too far into the aisle.
This was 1989 and the Dead had come off a troublesome spring tour and there were lots of precautions. I remember seeing a full-size paddy wagon sitting outside the amphitheatre on the way, ominously empty. There wasn't supposed to be any vending but there was although not as full-blown as in other places. I just felt a weird vibe like the Indiana cops were just eager and ready to do some bustin' but it never happened. it was really a sweet scene all around and the Dead ended up coming back every year without incident until '95 when it all went wrong.
