Attendees of this show
This was the first of many shows that I attended with my son Jamie. (3 years old)
With us that day were Curly and Jeffey, and Waz.
Great Dead "mall"!
Of all my shows this is one of my favorites,Me-n-Carlos' Long Strange Trip! Where are you Carl Timmons????-George Hargrove
Me and all my friends trucked down to Foxboro from Rochester NH in "the guy my mother married'"s AMC EAGLE station wagon thing because I did'nt have wheels at the time. We all had a blast and I met a beautiful young lady named (or nicknamed)Melody Star Waters but thats a whole different story...(If any one knows her tell her to contact me,Id love to talk)anyhoo,of course we all wanted to go to Buffalo for the 7/4 show and would'nt you know mygood buddy traded some perforated paper for(6) G/A seats..... YEEEFUCKINHAAAA!!! one hitch though(of course)my mothers husband was'nt the nicest guy in the world (the only reason he lent us the car was for my mom)he did`nt like me or my friends and he made that very clear.sozanywayz,He said noway jose'-so we were like fine we'll bring your stupid lookin' car home(which was covered in dust and Dead stickers heehee) and find another way to NY.(not really though, we were BuffaloBound,We'll deal with dickhead later) As we were leaving the dusty congested nightmare they call a parking lot,the old wagonmobilething starting acting kinda funky.Me-n-my buddy carlos were in "the thing"(with everybodies stuff)and the other 4 were in another car, between the car overheating and the traffic cops fucking everything up we lost our friends!!(no cell phones in 89)worst part:we had all there stuff and they had all the TICKETS!!(ouch)so we limped the car to one of those B/K/reststop typedeals and shut the car down and went in for a cool drink,to figure out what to do next.of course when we came out the car was DEAD! longstoryshort-we ditched the car, filled our backpacks, made a sign that said"BUFFALO-PLEASE"w/a peace sign for the O,and off we went.We got a ride to a bus station somewhere in NY and spent 10 hours on a cramped bus.We got to Buff only to realize we were nowhere near the stadium! So we spent our last dollar on a cab ride 1/2 way to Rich Stadium.By the time we got there, it was dark and it seemed like 100's of miles of parking lots packed w/people.we were like"okay-we are tired and hungry but we are here and we have one joint, lets sit on this grass hill-smoke one and just chill"as soon as we lit up-all of our friends came boppin' along in the Trippin' Traffic! We were like WHATSUPP!!so we went back to there car and shared what food and shelter we had and the next day went to one of the most kick-ass dead shows I ever seen.A well deserved night of Fireworks Weed and GRATEFUL DEAD!!!oh yeah--- as far as the car:it was just a loose battery cable(oopsy!)PS:we left it in DEDHAM MASS!! HAHAHAHAHA
10,000 maniacs and the Dead.
What a wonderful afternoon..
As one attendee observed the initial blast of energy during the opening song was astonishing..
EVERYBODY got off, I remember watching a stadium employee boogie right out of his shoes!..
keep your character, enjoy living, share your fortune,

This was my second show...and what a show. I spent the entire time at the back of the field dancing my face off. As I bopped to the rhythmic drums I bumped into a friend that I didn't even know was at the show. When "I Will Take You Home" started I asked my bud (he of more than 30 shows at that time) what the song was. He told me he thought it was a newer song that Brent wrote for his daughter. It grabbed my soul. I've used that song to sing both of my daughters to bed over the years. When they sing it back to me, well, you guys with daughters know...
Strangers stopping strangers - just to shake their hands...
I was feeling pretty good throughout this show and so my memories are all warm and fuzzy. I do remember thinking that they'd play "This Land Is Your Land" as an encore since they'd just done it for a CBS news segment 2 days earlier in Foxboro but I didn't complain about the Fourth of July "US Blues."
And yeah, "I Will Take You Home" wasn't always what I wanted to hear (esp. when it debuted going into Drums one year earlier at Alpine) but it was pretty sweet on this night. I always wonder about Brent's little girl, who is now a young woman. Where was she bound? What was she doing? What did she find? It's really kind of sad to think of that song now and Brent leaving us all too early.
From Bertha to U.S. Blues.......Awesome show! Two thumbs up and 5 ☆☆☆☆☆'s!!!!!
Great 4th Summertime show. Always remember the singer for 10,000 idiots whining that all the heads were paying no attention to them and next time they played home they would do their own gig. To bad she didnt do her own gig that day. Only bad part of the day.
