And, the only concert I've ever attended in my life... I was in L.A. from MCB 29 Palms visiting a friend, and while there, we ran into another kid who told us about the show... We beat feet down to the Bowl and I gotta say, I had a great time... I didn't know squat about the Dead at that time, and haven't become a rabid fan since, but still, it's one of the better memories I have... Great vibe, good people, excellent mind altering substances shared generously, and some of the worst wine I've ever had in my entire life. But what can I say...I had a monstrous case of cottonmouth... Oh, to be 18 again...
Although I had seen the Dead at the Human Be-in in '67, this was really my first show. I totally got it, fell in love with it from the first note, and remain so to this day. Life changing, and I'm still grateful.
...after the 71-72 New Year's Eve show at Winterland. I went with my friend Dan. Don't remember much. I'd love to see some photos.
Well, this was the show the changed my life! This is the show that,"I Got IT". Sounds like a pretty big assertion. But true, nonetheless.
I had bought 2 boxes Dead Center 5 rows of boxes from the stage. All my good friends were with me.The Boys were playing on a different level. This was a different group than the year before. I knew I was now part of a group of people that appreciated the Grateful Dead for playing music like no other group on the planet.
Not only was this one of the best years for the GD it was also one of the best years for me. I ended up seeing 9 more GD Concerts in 1972. About the same number of shows I had seen in total since 1968 prior to the Bowl Concert. I met and chatted with Weir & Garcia. I was in the hall for some sound checks. I only wish I had a decent quality CD of this show.
