    Ate the wrong pill
This was my first Dead concert. Not yet a Deadhead, I just went because it was another concert in town and I sorta liked Skull and Roses. Chick gave me a Quaalude. Sweet...I thought. Maria Muldaur was fine. Jerry sat in a little. The Lude was nice but I didn't know yet I had taken the wrong drug. Dead wrong. The first set was fun. Hey these guys are pretty fuckin' good I thought, as much as I could think since the entire world was slowly being wrapped in fuzziness. They had a nice kinda country thing goin' it seemed, with tasty solos. Pretty good outfit. And what was up with that PA? Never seen anything like that. Later, I could brag about seeing a Wall Of Sound show. At the break, I was easing into uselessness, so I split while I could still drive home. Yes, I know...a danger to myself and others. It's a wonder any of us are alive, no? So I missed an awesome, standalone Scarlet Begonias and the first Slipknot, though it's really just a jam. There was no drums/space because of the opening act eating up time. Within months I was off at the first college I dropped out of, digging clean Windowpane and the 10-30-70 tape, which was THE tape that made a Lifer out of me...and ashamed to tell the other new Deadheads that, yes, I'd seen them but I ate the wrong drug and left at the break. Oh the shame! It was three years before I could see them again...the Spring '77 tour and two of the shows I saw, Atlanta and Lakeland FL made it on Dicks' Picks.

This was my first GD show and man, it was a good one! Maria Muldar was the opening artist and she was great as well. The final song was One More Saturday Night and it literally blew the roof and doors off the place. This show is crying to be released on CD.

Scarlet Begonias was after Jack Straw; Big River seems to have lead off the 2nd set; and there is a real nice Slipknot jam between Eyes and China Doll. This is a grate cd candidate !
