This show was excellent from start to finish. I remember that it was a cold and rainy night with a brisk Lake Michigan wind blasting us but the music was top notch. The band seemed in fine form and everybody turned in a spectacular performance.
The Bucket & Shakedown opener started things nicely and the energy level never faltered for a moment. There was a little bit of everything, good rockers, funky, bluesy, Dylan, psychedelia and some nice jamming all around.
I would even go as far to say this was the best and most under rated Soldier Field show with the first night in 92 with Steve Miller and James Cotton a very close second.

This was a special show with some magical moments for me!
Bruce Hornsby really wanted to play Dark Star this night. Listen during the Playing jam - he teases DS so often, he starts sounding like a kid nagging for candy.
I seem to remember Fireworks after the show.
I agree aboutHornsby. He seemed to take the most basic musical lines and beat them to death. I do not think subtlety is his thing. Some people love Giants Stad. 91 b/c of D.S. teases, I found it simplistic and weak. Same goes for any thing on accordian!
I think a lot of people were kind of distracted by how cold & windy it was. It didn't feel like a summer tour show. We were all wearing sweaters & caps. I couldn't wait to get out of there and into some place warm. 2 weeks earlier at Deer Creek people were showering naked in the parking lot at a water truck that the venue brought in because it was so hot. The atmosphere at Soldier Field was just dreary in comparison. Great show musically however.
Well I drove from Jersey on friday, after work, with hopes of a ticket. I had been to quite a few shows that summer and after Giants I thought, man this tour is getting good, so in a last minute decision it was off to Chicago, you know chasin Dark Star as usual. I remember I was quite tired by the time we arived in the "windy city", and it took a while to get tickets so that may have affected my judgement. Unfortonately, I must admit I didnt think that the music was on the same calliper as some of the other shows that summer. It was good, dont get me wrong, great at times, just not off the hook like i felt about the 2nd night at Giants. However the fireworks display was some of the best pyro work I have ever seen. Being a little pyro that i was as a kid, so much so as to lose my pinky finger in a firework accident, I think I'm qualified to say GOOD JOB. I guess the white lightning didnt hurt either. K......
Such a great show! The band was on fire this night! Healey also did a superb job in this windy stadium. Forgetting this musical experience will surely be something I never do.
Let There be Songs To Fill The Air!
....and Bruce's best all night long!
I remember being shocked at how incredible "Foolish Heart" was jammed and sounded!
Should have known better - it was GREAT!!
I had not seen the dead since 88. had life stuff going on!I I am glad to say it was the only show that I was completely sober for! This was and still is a good thing! I did not intend to say goodbye to jerry for the last time for me! RIP brother!
