This was my first show!! Ben & I drove up from Knoxville with a lot on our mind ;) It was an unbelievable scene and I one that I will never forget. We took our place in the 'herd' and yes, I too remember the "mooing" as we were herded out later that evening. I loved R & C and I remember dancing my ass off and feeling every single word that Jerry sang. This show also offered Bruce Hornsby on keyboard. He rocked out like he had always been with the Dead. What a way to start the journey!!!
And the journey continues..............
What a memorable experience...my first time at Buckeye Lake but not the last...I went to every Dead show they had there after this one.....I remember every note...
Great show. The Femmes embraced coolness with Why Do Birds Sing? Amazing as it seems, that punk was originally an FU to bands like the Dead.
We are the music makers....and We are the dreamers of dreams
Every time we went...we said we would never go back...but like a fuckin magnet...Buckeye yanked us in...Rattle Friggin Rattle...back came the cattle...but this was an exception to the rule...I got my R and C while perched right in front of the tapers and the show was magic from that point on...never again did I have so much fun watchin Jerry.
I swear on Jerry's ashes that 2 months before this show a friend asked who was going to be the opening act. It was in the local paper there was an unnamed opening act. I had no idea so I said The Violent Femmes to shut him up. Well you can imagine my suprise when I hear over the loudspeakers "Please welcome The Violent Femmes." I was dosed heavily and thought someone was messing with me! that was one of the best (if not the best) show I ever attended. It has been over 15 years now and I still miss you Jerry. The angels in Heaven will love your music and I hope to see you there when I am called home.
I remember Dan Healy at the boards before the show and he was playing James Brown. He was messing with the levels and messing with everyones heads. Such the prankster. :)
