I knew Captain K years ago.
I knew Captain K years ago. Haven't heard anything about him in years. He lived near Haight and Masonic in 1990ish. Really cool guy. You probably knew Toad---another Wilmington guy I've heard of, although I don't know.

    Back in Va. Love Hampton
I have to mention this. Douglas posted something about a school bus. I remember drinking beer and smoking weed on that bus, in Hampton. I also remember some hairy dude putting a square paper on my toung and I tripped out on the bus for the first half of the show. I made it inside just in time for China Cat/ Rider combo. Still looking for Sugar Magniola.. damn girl I guess Ill never see ya again. Thats ok. Its didn't bring my trip down. I danced the whole second half of the show. Wheeeeee. I couldnt find the bus after the show. I miss you guys.

Do any of you guys remember Captain K., a.k.a. Ketamine Craig (Greg). Well I met him in Wilmington, NC living in a big yellow school bus selling science fiction art and many other things at the local Flea Markets in the area. He was definitely not from the area 'cause he had huge hair to his ass and was just too articulate to be from NC. LOL. I was living at Jah Ranch in Wilmington when I was on the East Coast. I befriended him and he started staying some at Jah Ranch. I started telling him about Dead tour and he was from Southern CA so of course he knew about them. I talked him into going on this tour with his School bus. If you remember the big yellow school bus from NC that was us. He stayed on tour for years and years. He was on the bus on the bus, Yuck yuck, after this tour. As far as this show, I thought the first set had some unique moments, my first Bottom. Hampton was always great. Always Dougles

I remember well the China - Rider and Wheel....the place seemed like the inside of a huge spaceship...glow lights on both floors...the acid made this a very FUN time for what was then a young college kid. OH, i do remember the Dupree's cuz it was my first. Great time with all my friends just high and loving life. I was still dancing at the Hardee's after the show and there was a cop in line for a burger...he didn't say a word to me...but when I saw him, my dancing just wasn't exterior anymore, only in my head....lolz His job is to shed light, not to master.

this was the beginning of what was a strong spring tour, of which I saw almost every show(except the Prov run). I can't say I remember this show very well though. Probably due to that first night high and excitement of the shows still to come. I remember more of shows down the road. Oh well, Hampton was always fun and you can't remember it all!

While many postings refer to the Hampton Coliseum as a spaceship, from the outside it looked like a Giant Crown Royal Bottle. Either way it was a great venue to see the Dead. I loved the Alabama Opener to the first set. The China-Rider was also very good. Brent went nuts at the end of Rider and the band followed by extending the jam.
