Why going to modern day off shoot dead shows can be bitter sweet
Why an old timer like myself who saw the band on a regular basis in the early 70s might just have a hard time going to dead co, ratdog, phil & friends ect. The music continues on and this is positive. But these days, it just isn't the same. The Grateful Dead ended July 9th, 1995.

    Pigpen last seen
Saturday night Pigpen kicked ass. On this night my friends and I sat front row center. Boogie woogie flu was setting in and I had to burn my candle at both ends. I remember Pigpen shaking as he sang "Two souls in communion".It was the last time Pigpen was in N.Y.C. I turned 18 three days later. Class of 72.

did not have a ticket but showed up anyway.Went around back with 2 girls I knew to watch them arrive and one of the girls got invited in by someone. 10 minutes later the other girl and I were in and the three of us watched the show from backstage. My only time ever backstage at a Dead show. I stood behind PigPens keyboard the whole show.

Went to the show anyway & hung out in front of the Academy trying to score a ticket. Unbelievably, I scored a ticket for 5 bucks! Not even realizing what I was doing (guess I figured that the seat couldn't be that good) I went up to the balcony. The usher told me that my seat was downstairs in orchestra. So I went downstairs and handed my ticket stub to another usher. I followed him as he kept walking and walking down the aisle. Finally he stopped at about the 15th row. The seat was right in the center of the aisle. As I nestled into my seat the band broke into 'Playing In The Band'. It doesn't get any better than this. One of my most memorable Dead concerts.
