    You Are Going to Hell!
Oh boy. At this show the hall security spent an extra-long time searching everyone before they were allowed in to the show. This mean that the music started while we were still outside, even though we had arrived in plenty of time, making us extra-cranky. Meantime, while we are fuming in line, there is a fundamentalist religious group right in our faces, screaming that we are all going to hell for listening to this evil music. I don't need that rap ANY night, but ESPECIALLY when we're being help outside like this! I had bad fantasies for YEARS about finding their church and showing up during services to blast St. Stephen and see how THEY like it! ANYWAY. .. during this show Jerry sang the line about "Don't lend no hand/to raise no flag/atop no Ship of Fools" which made me decide on the spot that I should NOT do ANY of my term papers for college that semester. (A decision I would come to regret later...). This was ALSO the show where we heard this quintessential statement from a Deadhead talking to an usher: "I've seen the Grateful Dead 53 times, and 52 times they've let me down... But ONCE they were GREAT!" Glen
