We stayed at school that year for Thanksgiving so this was an easy decision. Back then, tickets were not that hard to get. The show was like a High School Gym sock hop. General Admission.

Great second set, wish I was there......

...For Gator fans. The U. Miami Hurricanes had whupped, thrashed, spanked and generally kicked the Gators' a*ses earlier that day just down the road at Florida Field. The student gov't at UF had been trying for years to get the Dead to play there, but the band had real problems with the auditorium, Alligator Alley. It was old, decrepit, and very, very much past its prime. I guess they convinced the band that their equipment wouldn't short out the entire building and burn it to the ground. I understand the current basketball coach, Urban Myers, has a lot of Dead on his iPod.

One of the best dead shows i have ever seen and ive seen 165 shows.I meen it shakedown franklins is so cool and its the only verson.The franklins is the best ever tops the whole radio city run.The truckin jam out peeks i mean really peeks.The drums are wicked and the space is insane.The other one is way beyond the planets.This would be the best road trips yet,i mean it dead people rino whoever,put this one in the hands of jeffery norman even if its just an aud.tape.Put it out on cd.

Me and Brother Bill and our teacher/probation officer went to this show.Got caught at the gate with a wineskin full of liquor, so we drank and shared on the steps while waiting for the dose to kick in. First set, we noticed a girl and her dog looking in through the exit doors. We let her in and promised to watch the pup while she danced for a while.After three songs she still hadn't returned, so we did the only honorable thing and let the dog in too.Midway through the set we noticed that security had tossed the pup out, so we let him in again. I like to think that they found each other. Beginning of set two the dose was working its magic. We followed some cat under the bleachers (Perhaps they were the old pull out kind?) and came up at the stage. When told to go one way, we went the other and found a door to the stairs. All the gym equipment was stored down there. While the boys played above us we played on the balance beam and bars and dosed hard! Just fucking fun!!!! As if that wasn't enough, there was some kinda concert going on too! If anyone has a copy of this show, I'd love to trade.

Billy Donovan is the current basketball coach, not Urban Myers. He was the football coach.

This show changed my life. I had seen the Grateful Dead before and thought they were cool but I wasn't into them yet. When I saw this show they were totally on, great song choices and played with full spirit. I have been a fan since the late 1960's/early 1970's but I wanted to see them anytime I could after 1980.

In 1980 I was a freshman at UF (Go Gators). Nov 29 is my birthday. I was sitting over by the tennis courts with my mother who came up to the homecoming game in a Winnebago. She noticed that my mind was somewhere else and when I explained that a band I liked was playing she pulled out $20 and told me to go. I sprinted across campus (behind O'Connell center, past the swamp to the old gym and bought a ticket at the door and I was in. It was my first (of many) time seeing them and the entire experience is one I will never forget. I thought it was kind of cool that they jumped right into their hit to get it over. I also recall being mesmerized by Stella Blue. Great memory for me.

I did check online for the photos, if anyone had uploaded any from that event and it was total disappointment that I couldn’t find any. I wonder why there weren’t any photos or any other visual media copies of these events. Acoustic Windows

I'm assuming the reason I didn't see this show is because it happened on the Saturday night of Thanksgiving weekend, when I and many other students would have been out of town. The timing is curious -- seems kind of Spinal Tappy -- but maybe they just were on the road anyway and decided the UF gym was as good as anywhere else.
