Troy

I remember me and TR got a huge bag of shrooms for the three nights, we were flying...there was a coke dealer hanging out in the lot where we were named Troy, he was famous because he let you "try before you buy" So thanks Troy, I really enjoyed it.

Spencer Davis

Great start to the second set when Spencer Davis comes out with his white guitar, gets a quick intro from Bobby, the bright white lights come up instantly and the band plows into Gimmie Some Lovin'. The whole arena from the floor to the rafters jumps up at once and we are rockin'. Great moment in Dead History!

Paul

May you stay forever young...

Spender Davis

just when u think you've seen it all, out comes Mr. Spender Davis to help open the second set with a high energy Gimmie Some Lovin'. So glad he made it, so glad I made it. Tickets were nearly impossible this night.

"Thank You Spencer"

I remember Weir's words thanking Spencer Davis after he played just the one song with them that night. I have to say I do not remember much else. I was there with a friend sitting just behind the tapers section near the sound board on the back right of the floor. And we got so fried. Just smoked from start to finish.

tickets

Funny, we went without tickets and by the time I'd parked the car my friend Matt had scored us a couple. (Win a few, lose a few....in fact, my attending the third night of this stand was little short of miraculous!).

Great Terrapin. It was actually a Playin' tease (not reprise) out of space....the band actually went into the classic opening riff, but I guess it was just too late in the set to begin one. This was proceeded by a Handsome Cabin Boy jam out of Space (not Two Soldiers as commonly listed). I didn't know it, but when I got the tape I really fell in love with it and it was literally a decade before my housemate drove up with Shady Grove blaring out of the car and what should be playing but......The Handsome Cabin Boy! I dropped my book and maniacally asked him what song it was. That's how I finally found it.

Meanwhile, at Capital Centre (Landover, MD) in '91 or '92, I had the amazing fortune to see it come out of space again after loving it on tape. This time I milked every minute of it, even though I was still years away from identifying it.

Well, that's my Handsome Cabin Boy story. To this day I like it better without words! (I've even played for not one, but two dear friends' weddings! Without words, of course.)

did I say proceeded?

I meant preceded.

While I'm here again ~ it was great to catch another Pocky Way so soon after the Capital Centre's a few days earlier. I'd never heard the song before that, but it blew us away. (But that show is a whole 'nother story.)

third time's the charm

For the record, that other Cabin Boy jam, as someone had confirmed on the Archive, was Landover 3-17-93 (not 91 or 92).
