Dave TorbertFirst coming to the attention of Northern California music fans as co-writer of "Home to Dixie" on the debut album by Kingfish, Cutler has logged many hours in the studio with a wide variety of artists including The Big Wu, Jewel, Paul Collins, Mystery Tramps, and Spike 1000."I first started work on this album in the 1970s," says Cutler. "A few years ago, after some 18 years of lying dormant, the original tapes were restored, new tracks were cut, and finally, this record was completed." Tapping the talents of many great musicians, all of whom trusted Cutler to take the lead, "Crossing the Line" is one of the few modern records that does just what its title explicitly states: it exceeds expectations and blows away preconceived notions. Whether it is the gospel-esque ballad "Ridin' High", the shock-and-awe social commentary of "Cry of the City", the catchy mid-tempo rocker "Engine 99", or the cajun-spiced feel of "Ballad of Bras Coupe", the combination of musical chops and roots-rockin' energy intermingle perfectly to create a classic-yet-modern Northern California vibe.
