Dave's Picks 2018 Subscription - No Longer Available

Welcome to the 7th year of the Dave's Picks series, as we head into 2018 more excited than ever about where this series is, and where it's going. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported the series since its inception in 2012; and to those who are new to it, we welcome you. There's plenty of room on the bus. The anticipation we feel every time we select, and later announce, each and every Pick is equal, or even greater, than this guy's excitement at seeing a train. As we head into and past our 25th release in the series, we feel a great sense of forward momentum, and we aim to keep that going in the coming years. How do we top a release like the upcoming Vol. 25, which as you've likely heard is the classic, much-requested, spectacular 11/6/77 Binghamton, NY show? With the show we're thinking about for Vol. 26, that's how! Really, we aim to equal, or top, every release by heading to great performances that you or may not have previously heard, but never in the quality Jeffrey Norman is able to produce. We've got our eyes and ears on several shows for possible upcoming Dave's Picks releases that are going to make 2018 the best year yet in the series, and that's how we honestly feel. Thanks again for subscribing. We keep doing what we do because you keep digging it. Your support and feedback is what keeps making us scream like we've just seen the train of our dreams...

David Lemieux
October 2017

Because the demand for these limited, numbered releases is so high, we've decided to bump the 2018 Dave's Picks production run to 18,000 of each of the four releases. While this means there will be more to go around, the best advice we have to give is... subscribe. When these releases go up for sale a la carte, they sell out within hours. Hours. No hyperbole here. The only way to avoid disappointment and be guaranteed all four Dave's Picks in 2018 is to subscribe.

In addition to the four CD releases in 2018, totaling 12 CDs, you’ll also get the subscription-exclusive bonus disc, which has proven to be one of the most highly sought after collectables we’ve ever released and free domestic shipping. Subscriber bonus discs will not be released outside of this offer.

....been bathing in this Seamons matrix of Hampton 4.9.83 for the last three or four days. Check out Jerry's raunchy mode during West LA, and the groove that Esau settles in. The Force is strong in the HSF as well. Throwing Stones raised an eyebrow or two. In fact, they presented all the newer songs with aplomb. Highly recommend....

Diamonds in the 79 rough?

I usually live '71 to'77 but also dig primal and Brent Dead too
Just picked up Dick's 5 and was pleasantly surprised - disc 2 & 3 are great! IMHO
What about the rest of this end of the year run at the Oakland Auditorium? Are there sources out there? Is it worth the Dave treatment?
As a follow-up picked up Road Trip Vol 1, no 1 Fall '79 and am enjoying it, though I prefer full shows, it's still nice to compare the '78 Dead to '79 with Brent in the mix bringing a change to their sound. Shakedown Street is huge and I love the Morning Dew.
I think that is it - two official releases from '79

Not necessarily sold out possibly just the sub period ended. Of course that would mean the a la cart items will sell out in about 4 minutes

FZ what a loss. I sometimes wonder what he'd be doing now if he lived. At home between the GD and FZ that's probably 66 to 75% of my listening. Shame what Gail's doing. Are you getting the full Roxy? Unlike the Dead you miss out when just listening to Frank his stage shows were so wacked

Getting CD out of Digipak!

I have always found that the safest way to do this for stubborn CDs is to press your finger on the center post, grasp both edges and pull gently up while rotating the cd back and forth. This causes the cd to slowly wind its way up the shaft until it pops off. Never had one break this way, don't need to use nearly as much pressure as when just trying to pull it off (and I have also broken cds that way!) Hope this helps

Hmmmm. Not a bad idea, but i reckon 25 is way past the Mastering phase if not done with production already. I reckon we have the best bits already. In Dave we Trust. Lols.

Whelp. You had more than 2 months to get on the 2018 bus

I know in my city, you are lucky to get 2 minutes of the driver's time before he pulls off to the next stop. First 2 picks of 2018 look SOLID. DaP26 will be a nice Tex-Mex pairing with RT 3.2. Here's hoping for more GoGD mythos made with the last 2 picks.

Me? Been on the Bus since Dick's 1. Got rid of those clunky Maxell XLII's gladly.

Getting CD out of Digipak!

Hey quick question here. I just got Dave's Picks 23 in the mail today and getting the actual CD's out of the case seems to be a little bit of a pain the ass. I gotta like bend the CD a little before it pops free. If i press my finger on the center post that holds the cd in place it doesn't help or move. I did manage to get them out but only after i had to bend and force the CD a little (I don't like doing that). Does anybody know if there's an easier way?

Happiness...

Hi All! I have just recently jumped back on to the message boards here. I have been focused on the new Star Wars movie and all that comes with that. Anyway, I am really excited about DaP 25. After listening to the other Fall 77 releases, I am starting to feel as though the Fall of 77 rivals May of 77. I know that may be a bold statement but the stuff that has been officially released in part or whole - 10/7/77, 10/11/77, 10/16/77, = parts, 11/2/77 = almost complete, 11/4/77, 11/5/77 and soon to be 11/6/77 all complete, is a good representation I think. I feel like we have been given a nice amount from this tour. Yey I am all for more releases from the fall 77. I wouldn't mind getting the rest of the December Winterland shows too, especially the full 12/30/77.

As DaP 26, I love the fact that we are getting 2 complete shows. I subscribed so I will get the bonus disc. I know the Fall of 71 is a little bit suspect in terms of the jamming/improvising (I state this loosely) but I think we are getting two good shows. I have not heard too much from this tour so I am looking forward to this release as well. Oh, and it was mentioned many comments prior but 1/24/71 is a dark horse favorite of mine. I would love to see that get released - it is such a good and unique show, which are also the qualifiers for Daves Picks release...

A mild regret about the significance of 11/17: So I did not subscribe to the Daves Picks series initially. For the first few years the series was out, I was not financially stable. I also balked on the ala carte option, which those did not sell out as fast back then. My regret is that I did not go after the DaP 5 - the Pauley Pavillion show. See my birthday is 11/17/73 so that is my birthday show. I also missed out on the DaP 11 - 11/17/72. Well in a wholly remarkable set of circumstances in the present day my finances are much better and I have been going after all of the official releases that I either missed, passed on or needed to reaquire. I have been able to get DaP 9-12, and I also just snagged #6. All of these came from eBay and I did pay a good, but still reasonable price for each . Thanks to eBay and Real Gone Music I have been able to get a lot of the Road Trips releases I passed on. Plus I have re-acquired some of the old Dick PIcks that I parted ways with years ago.

So back to 11/17. I will now have 11/17/71, 11/17/72, but I still need my birthday show. That one is up there in price because of lower production numbers. It will sting but I will get it. The only other regret I have is that i did not get DaP #1 which is also significant for me as is it the Star Wars release show ( Star Wars is another passion of mine). However DaP 1- 4 are even pricier because of the lower production numbers than 5-8. I may not be able to get the one.

Anyway, I love the message boards and comments as this the only place I can talk about all of this stuff . It is great to have so many like minded people who get what I am talking about. As for DaP and all of these other releases I am eternally grateful. My goal at this point is to have my own personal "vault". Each day when all the work is done there is nothing better than relaxing at home and putting on a great show.

Happy Holidays to all!

P.S.
I really would love to get another Dark Star for either 27 or 28...or both.

Savvy , not I

Year 1 , I passed on subscription although I had almost all previous releases minus a good amount of road trips. There was a few year span I missed out on releases. Bummer cause that's when road trips had some cool bonus discs

I remember Dave's Picks 1 going up, wasn't really thrilled too much , maybe reasoning was could it be any better than 5.22.77 ? And also cover art of Star Wars theme, I didn't appreciate so much at the time. Ended up scoring a Dave's Picks 1 probably in 2015 for around $325

Volume 2, I jumped on and bought a la carte because it was Wall of Sound and July 74 didn't have much for releases.

Volume 3 , I passed on at the time. Not sure why, but ended up paying $75 for it

Volume 4 , I hopped on it via a la carte

The following years I have subscribed and haven't missed one since

1966 ?

4.24.66 , I'm pretty sure Jorma K is featured on this recording, I think it was his birthday yesterday also. This one will be amazing.

Rhino send out 4.24.66 and if there is more from that run.

One Kind Favor

Also looking for another performance "Betty and Dupree"

With the calendar year winding down. I wish a Merry Christmas to all , I hope everyone gets time to fill up their belly, clear their head, and reach out to loved ones. Peace and "may the four winds blow you safely home"

Old timers...

It seems so long ago now that Dave's Picks Vol. 1 appeared here that those who were here at that time could now be considered old timers. I think most were savvy enough to realise what was happening and to get a copy - and start on the subscription. If I recall correctly, the subscription model started earlier, sometime during the Road Trips series.

The Best Years

I remember sorting through my Dick's Picks after the real estate crisis.
Also found a few Road Trips. Had a little extra in my pocket.
Stating buying the rest of Dick's, then lots of Road Trips primarily via ebay.
Then Dave announces the new "Picks" #1 the Mosque 1977/05/27 The Mosque.
Bought 1 copy and frequented the web site... only bought 1
Ever since then 1 Sub for personal and 2nd for friends and family.
Love the recent the attention to 1971 and filling out 1977

this is an era that should get a box treatment. Take the existing tapes, give 'em the Full Norman, and release 'em.

they might not sound j-e-perfect, but they'll do.

Really looking forward to 12/14 getting the full Norman :) I listen to 12/15 more but it's nice to see A2 finally get some love.

Also, if there's anyone out there who didn't get a subscription... I accidently subscribed twice during the mayhem of the original announcement. So, when the day comes when these are released, and you want a copy, hit me up. Open to trades and dead.net store prices plus shipping. Not trying to profit.

yeah its true that they are doing the exact same thing they did last year: May's Pick '71, fall tour filler from one show bonus disc covers the next. I get the complaints from that. it can come off a bit formulaic or repetitive. but at the same time I really don't care what gets put out. the last run I was hoping for maybe of two fall '77 shows that came back in or a '78 of anything. I got a '78 so I'm happy with that. but we'll be getting a better quality show out of 11/17/71. from what I read the problem with the only copy of that show on the archive is that it is a NON pre-fm show recorded onto cassette with a microphone.
