    No show this night ...
If I remember right Bill K was sick... Its been a long time but I'm pretty sure it was this night... Then again it could have been another year... The reason I think it was this night they were playing three in a row and the 2nd show was canceled due to his sickness...

I of the best places to see the DEAD...
And this one we had BACKSTAGE passes, looking at it right now... I remember Mickey jumping on Jerrys back saying, " I'm DEAD"... Great...

We left Oak Park and got downtown when Tim remembered his ticket was at home. He dropped us off at the el where we took it up north to Lawrence, where we walked a mile or so to get to the Uptown to find the show was cancelled. Tim showed up after getting his ticket and then havin a flat tire. What a doomed night.

Why don't they just give us a box set of the Uptown shows from 1978.that would be a great deal of great shows from that year!

November '78 was my first show, with a handful of siblings and neighbors. My brother and I were just recalling that event when we went to Dead Co this November. How different would my life have been if I had a ticket for the cancelled show. But I didn't. I was back there in the 2nd row in August of '80 and almost bagged my college plans as a result. Hope somebody and renovate and rejuvenate that gem of a venue.

It was announced yesterday (June 28, 2018) that there is finally a plan and financing in place to restore this treasure of a venue. At 4,300 seats it's too small for Dead & Co. but would be perfect for Phil & Friends, Bobby and Phil or something like Bobby's campfire tour. It's not possible to build a theatre like this now, the craftsmanship just doesn't exist anymore, so saving this gem is great news! http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/theater/ct-ent-uptown-rehab…

I was at the 1st night, my 1st show ever. I had to work the next night and "missed" the Casey Jones they played. My best friend went to that show. We both said the next day, we can not miss the 3rd night. Went without tix. Got them from some Disco Dan and his dancing Debutant date who won free tix on WXRT. He sold them to us at a really high price of 12.50 each! But, we sat in 7th row center, thank you WXRT! OK, a 3rd friend squeezed into our two seats. Bottom line is they played the 2nd night of that run on Nov 17, 1978. And, holy cow! The Uptown Theater was such a great place. Ended up seeing 5 shows total there. So much artisan details everywhere. And 4500 seats. A crown jewel of 1940's craftsmanship.
