well, that was a gimme for sure !
Got it flange-ing again in just the right way :-)
Nice to be back in November if for no other reason than the 30 Days are back! The first two haven't been too taxing - nice lead-in :-) One question: What is "flange-ing" or "flanging"? I've seen it used a couple of times here and I've not heard the term before. Aging = loss of hipness :-)
If you need any of the previous 30 Days tunes I've still got the 2010 to 2018 archive up at
Singing yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Singing thank you, for a real good time :-)
It's kind of a whooshing sound when you have the 2 recordings come together.
For audio examples of flange-ing and or phasing see the middle of The Doobie Brothers "Listen to the Music" when it breaks down, Led Zeppelin "Kashmir" on the drum track (and live versions sometimes the whole band is "flanged", see also "In The Evening"), Eagles "Life In The Fast Lane" middle breakdown on the bridge, Heart "Barracuda" guitars are flanged/phased, Rush "Spirit of the Radio" guitar intro.
Mislabled one of mine from last year! Appreciate the link :)
love the heavy phil. anyone else notice a second of silence at the 10:37 mark? still awesome tho. thanks again for another 30 DoD! love it
Yep a cool trilling of notes from the keyboard person is missing from this version they have on the site today.
A few seconds must not be on the board tape they used.
Hey good to be back! I could not find any word of 30DoD on the site or email alerts in recent weeks.... found some portal that led me here through the site search.
It's all about the timing. I guess they went beyond Andy's future fame time frame.
And speaking of timing, I love the way Bobby jokingly throws off the count-in! It almost threw the Devils off for real there in the opening seconds.
Don't read this stuff I wrote below if you do not want to, scroll on..... :
It's not just the weather. It might be the tall tales told.
The 30 Days link is in the slider at the top of Dead.net but it's not pinned in the first position like it has been previously - you have to click on the little dots at the bottom of the images to scroll through and find the 30 Days image.
And the comments are again so strangely set up by default. And the choices of recent, oldest, a-z, z-a do not help much. And even more confusing on the general main 30DoD page where all comments from separate days appear at bottom of page without context.
Yeah, I know. The site is built in Drupal (same type of thing as WordPress) and I'm a Drupal developer. I wish I was on the backend to take care of some of these things. I've written in a few times in the past - guess what's on my agenda this morning? :-)
Love this contest each year! 242 so far I think!?
Phil crackled like a thundercloud in this version. Not sure I got the right show today. Had to throw in the towel and give it a guess. Good luck all!
Thanks for the epic telling of this tale. My Goodness!
Hey anywhere on the net I can grab yesterdays day of the Dead download?
There’s a “Past Dates” link at bottom.
Nice version, they only did 5 or 6 this long, and intro gives it away.
All the years combined and I only find a couple Shkedowns over 18 minutes and they are not it … hmmmmm. I've missed something so far.
I'm not just gonna give it to ya
Maybe relisten has the times wrong but I've checked em all just like Santa! I'm stumped
Yes, many of the versions of this particular show on the various online sites out there were showing a shortened 15 min version of this song. So some peoples' tapes had missing parts of this song. And there were other versions of this show that had a more complete 17 to 18 min version.
wow, amazing version
but eventually got it. The boys sounded like they were really enjoying themselves on this one too. Thanks again Dave and DeadNet for sharing this little gem with us today!
Threw me off but I think I got it right. See you all Tomorrow.
Bentornati, GD intelligentsia!
thankfully, both of the 1st two tunes this year were a breeze to find, but...
there is a cut shortly past the ten & a half minute mark with music missing...
there is also a splice right b4 the 13 minute mark, which was also on CMs version, go figure, but his has the 1st blemish patched, bless his soul.... ~ace.
Time will tell - my usual methods was a challenge today but finally in the quiet of the night … the timing between the versions I used to match are off by a substantial amount (Over ten seconds).
I presume someone's electronics glitzed, broken cable connection or something? Anyone know the story? Meanwhile, one of the greatest Shakedown Streets I've listened to!
Yeah it's common on the GD vault sounboard tapes to have dropouts. Fortunately this one was just a few seconds. There are many moments of GD soundboard history lost to various technical glitches in the band's crew's recording process. Sometimes the equipment just misses and malfunctions, sometimes a crew member has to flip a cassette tape and quickly get a new one in there, sometimes the crew member has to attend to other emergencies and misses a tape flip or malfunction etc etc etc.... so many factors involved.
Some versions of this show out there on the various live music streaming sites have a version with a "patch" on it - basically an audio band-aid where a portion of an audience recording is pasted onto the missing part with expert smooth fading in and out as well as pitch adjustment to get it to match. The official Dave's Picks releases are even using audience patches in the last few years. The advances in audio software make it so that just about anyone at home can do some great audio surgery with the click of a mouse these days!
