Report for duty, to the Vault
entered day five ten seconds too late , somehow missed day 6 altogether, and when i refreshed my day seven page it said thanks for entering today. i think it took my day five submission again. Good thing the music's been pretty sweet or i'd be pretty bummed. I'll just search for this playin anyway. think i have a good idea where to start looking.
I can tell your future
You might listening to lots of Playin in the Band to get this one
If a man among you
Got no sin upon his hand
Let him cast a stone at me
For playing 30 Days of Dead
Even after narrowing down the candidates, I still had to search through a bucket full.
Good Morning Fellow Heads!
I can tell this one is going to take a lot longer than anything else thus far. I will have to come back to it later. Happy hunting!
Good recovery and otherworldly Playin' jam after Bobby f's up the return to 3rd verse :)
I wonder when/where is the mystery stumper studio/soundcheck jam going to fall this year?
Thought this was going to take all day but then I pulled out my bag 'o'tricks and found it pretty quickly. It's not that difficult.
I can pin point an era but buckling up for a Sunday drive still...so. many. versions...
Once you hear someone say Jer's voice sounds a bit amphibian, you can't unhear it.
Have you been keeping up your excel spreadsheet?
if so can I convince you to send me the current version?
2nd day in a row, downloading is no problem, but playing the song from this site doesnt work. all time listings are 0:00
and song doesnt play.
once i download it plays fine on tablet so easily solved but curious if anyone else having this problem with chrome.tried the usual reboot, reload, stuff to no avail.
hope everyone is having as much fun as i am, and thanks Dave for hosting this each year.
That was a tough one but there's enough info to narrow down the search. This is my first year doing this. Do the hints ever help?
They very rarely help. They should not be called hints. I think we all truly rely on our experience from listening to this band for many decades (three for me).
This was a fun rabbit hole to dive into this morning. I took the wrong approach at first: I knew it was in one of three years, but I did not take into account it could be a split "Playin'," so I second guessed myself and ventured out of the three-year span I initially focused on. I eventually came back, found a site with all versions and time codes, and there it was. It synced up nicely with archive.org. Happy hunting!
Thank you 13point and gnosticaspirant for clueing me in on the clueless hints...
Faced with hundreds of possible Playin's I really wanted to make the hint work, and I thought maybe the talk about "outside" and "vehicle" meant to look for a raceway venue which would have narrowed it down quite a bit. But after flailing around on Laguna Seca shows and a few others for a while I finally figured out that the hint was meaningless and I came at it from other directions.
unnecessary venue ambiguities are dismaying
This isn't a bad show at all considering Bob's harsh vocals on this Playin'. The exploratory jam is really cool too. It was kind of tedious looking for this one. They did Playin' In The Band every couple of shows. It's the Grateful Dead's most played song ever. It tops the list at 678 times.
...and 233 of them were with Brent.
I had such a blast on this tour! Then agan, what tour wasn't a blast? (by the way, there's no hint in my comment, just good times).
My first show was on this tour and it changed my life.
in so many venues, played by so many people, at so many different times in space(DRMZ too), that this particular Hunter/Weir/Hart masterpiece is a hard little critter to flush out, but I did. I hope you all do too!
(Edit: No hints intended here. Bob's vocals ought to tell your ears all they need to know).
...and, like Brassinthegrass, so glad I did!
Couldn't fathom the "clues" (though one makes sense now that I found the concert), so I just focused on the marimba, Bobby's unique vocal entry, and slogged through.
Gotta hand it to Dave to get this "far out" - this show is a real mind-blower, and well worth the entire ride. Just wonder why the volume on this download is so low (compared to the Archive offerings, as many have been in the past). Well, just crank it and enjoyyyyyy!!!!
I spent wayyy too much time on this today. Usually I avoid these comments until I'm done. Mainly because I dislike greatly seeing people say "oh that took me 30 seconds to find" as I flail about. But I have to say that I found the clue I needed in the comments today. Or I've finally gone mad listening to too many versions and I have no idea what I'm talking about.....tune in tomorrow.
Thanks to the kind hint dropper!
Got started late today, but ahhhh, spotted a nice little hint floating around in these here Comments that seeped right into my mind, and with what I already knew, it helped me narrow it to 8 possibilities. Got it on the 3rd one. Thanks a bunch! Wouldn’t’ve minded poking around more, but you possibly saved me a hellishly long search. It’s just nice to have the search behind me, so now I can enjoy the show!
And now...the dilemma of which venue!
Yep! First one this year.
I say everyone’s a winner who knows the venue, regardless of which “official” name they give.
And now…I will toss a coin and choose one, because, well, I got no chance of losing this time.
on Playing in the Band in this era. A bit of string tuning needed by Bob but it does not ruin. They took their time and did not run off stage. Sounded like they wanted to weave some magic and were having some fun. Listening to the ending moments was the help for me.
Really enjoyed this era of PIB. Didn't have time to search, but love this version.
Really like this version of Playin’ especially for that era it definitely launches you into another dimension. The first “Jerry” song at this show also really stands out.
where I witnessed my first Spanish Jam at this venue, and wrote my first article on a show for my school newspaper, writing songs down during the show, which was a challenge due to my pen was melting. We spent over an hour looking for our car after the show in the parking garage, which was funny for a while, until it wasn't, walking up and down 6 flights coming up empty, but we finally found that big boat of a station wagon, with the fake wood panelling, and in jumped 7 goofy guys and rolled away the dew into the wee hours by the coast.
Finally got there and knew I was getting hot when I heard the almost transition which was common that year and then I knew my dream would not be fractured.
once again left with 30 minutes to find you. why have you forsaken me november
gotta go. no time for chit chat
i'm right there with you, Hornsby, just got home from work at 11:30, so i'll simply enjoy the song and let it go.
ain't no time to search ...
just when you think its over , and you do one more, and there it is. knew i had to be close. 10 minutes to spare
finally get to guess.
thats the 30 days ive been waiting for
it says thanks for entering again today. i haven't put in my guess yet.
anyone else having this issue.
thats a bummer
