The clarity and quality of this recording is amazing considering the time period. Sometimes I am totally floored that we have access to these recordings and that they had the were with all back then to keep each recording somehow knowing each show was a piece of a puzzle that folks 60, 70, 80 years down the road would cherish and hold in such high regard. Side note, Phil is Fire this night!

What a way to start a personal day from work. Got Dave's 56 queued up for a road trip to Pittsburgh to see BMFS, and I wake up to this freebie. Musical Christmas!

So satisfying to finally find that Victim yesterday. That CLINK CLONK at the end was the final confirmation. Up early enough for work to download today's track onto my phone for the rest of the day. Already loving it five minutes into Drums starting up.

Hot Pigpen pick today. I found this one pretty easily; pay attention to where Mason’s is headed into before the cut-off.

Hanging slider over the middle of the plate - great tracks, sound great (or is that "grate").

This unfortunately was so easy I didn't have to listen to a single note to get the answer. But that ain't how it's supposed to be, so as soon as my old lady wakes up I am going to crank this bitch up (though I confess some of these are among my least fav Dead tunes). Nevertheless, I'm going to really enjoy checking them out -- and how can you not like The Other One?

I believe this show might have shown up on past Days.

God, I am loving the stretched opening to "The Other One." The patience, openness. As it slowly builds . . . And this recording is so crystal clear. Jerry, Phil, drums, percussion. All coming through so perfectly. TGIGDF, fellow freaks.

I knew I was gonna get yesterday’s wrong when I figured out the show was in Oakland. This very websites own setlist archive had slightly different name for the coliseum.

Will have to wait until tomm to talk about this one, but man o man what Dave & Co. do is so appreciated and generous. Between 30DOD, The Tapers Section, and all the official releases the songs certainly fill the air.

I'm now guessing/hoping that the truly critical piece of info is the correct date (of course) and that any of the various iterations of a particular venue name (where there are 2 or more) will be accepted if you have the correct date and what you see with the winner is simply the one they chose of 2 or more available.

Alias Blue Crow - Yes, it pays to hear the Taper's and Jam-o-week! In many rewarding ways.
Today's is a combo that is readily discernable through setlists and Deadbase. I seem to have notes scribbled there so maybe Dave used this date already with different songs? Already entered but will listen for sure. Then on to the Jam-o-week!

Good to hear a healthy Pigpen belting out commandments like only he could. Not too many combinations of these particular tunes to choose from and fortunately it's a crystal clear SBD which makes for pleasurable listening. I learned some new things regarding Alligator and Mason's Children. The reference in Alligator to "Tear down the Fillmore," and "Gas the Avalon" has an interesting back story regarding market share competition between the two venues. And Robert Hunter in his book Box Of Rain, describes Mason's Children as "dealing obliquely with Altamont."

Today's is quite obviously not the most challenging determination to make among the many fantastic Grateful Dead selections put forth for the 30 Days of Dead anthologies, yet this one for today has a sequence that highlights the band with their original front man making fine vocal display. There is something to the way Pigpen used to sing Alligator that just resonates on a deep emotional level, and brings one back to that time when these fellas were exploring freedom with the best of them. Too bad it had to be the last known time that one of the songs in this glorious sequence was performed...

i have always enjoyed this tune with its propulsive rythm, but this especially is a unique version with a slightly different melody from the opening chords.

Yes to those that said similar words: there is no "wrong" venue when guessing from a selection of similar venue names. Just choose one and get the city plus date correct. The site's posted answer the next day is neither a right or wrong venue name. It's just computers/websites/digital information. Don't read too much into it. If you get the date correct and choose one of the venue names in question you have a chance

So nice to have Pigpen in such good form and in such a good recording. But...
there's a glitch on the provided download during "Drums" at the 5minute 50 second mark, lasting a couple of seconds. The version on the internet doesn't have this glitch and gap. What gives?

An early first set version of Victim or the Crime was relatively rare, but throughout 1990, with exception to summer tour, it was still very common to find it in the first set, albeit summoning the closing suite. It was 1991 when the song was moved almost exclusively to the second set, and almost always provided some dark and visceral enjoyment.
