from second night was the peak of the 6 shows for me. Haven't put any of my recording from this online. Still have cassette and DAT deck though they've sat idol far too long. Have masters in both formats. Don't hold your breath but I'll entertain an attempt to fire it up. In mean time archive.org I'm sure has recordings as good and better then mine.
- truckinup2buffalo7 months 3 weeks agoSTRANGER THINGS!
11/10/2021 Stranger sounds happen when your ears are giving up. I've struggled for years with my hearing but I've found a way to get in the groove and Let the Good Times Roll. Along with listening to the end before it starts and then the real end. Big help from my Bose earbuds now I hear those hints. 9 out of 10 so far! I did make my mind think of the PLACE being one that has closed down or was Torn Down. Almost like over reading the HINT. I had to do more than a double twist to really understand what Dave was telling us.

...is your recording on LL?!?
i wanna hear it!!!
saw 5 of 6 that run...
think, not sure, but the 2nd night was my favourite...
missed Saturday which is known as the Infamous Tina Tafro Show.
Dave L. rrrrrreally digs that show as well...
Comment
congrats brass!!!!!!
love it when one of da Crüe wins!!!!!!!
&
LOVE ME SOME STRANGER!!!
Many thanks
Congrats to you too. Attending 31 shows in one run! That's a whole lotta love and devotion. I only got to see a handful of shows from 87-95(and grateful was I to have seen those). The energy @ MSG must have been truly electric.
imma drink to dat, ned...
wow, quickest one ever...
Stranger is in my top 3 GD tunes & this particular one is certainly part of my DNA...
this was 1 of 31 shows i caught this vintage...
and, clearly with proof @12:03 texted my boy gr8phul who's a silent lurker around these parts & told him my Stranger guess before even listening to 1 note...
& well, scratch my back with a hacksaw,
I GUESSED IT!!!!! HOW COOL IS THAT?!?!?
anyways, caught 10 shows this tour & every one was killer, especially this night which I had to get over the hump for... ace
ps... ILL 2nd set jam as well...
Newbie
This is my first year doing 30 days of Dead and I'm having a blast! Got this one pretty quickly, thankfully. Sunday and Monday kicked my butt, missed those but got every other one.
Thanks for the reprieve
Well that hint gave us a break along with a ripping Stranger. Now tomorrow/today I won't search but will finish the second set from yesterday's choice. the Wolfman has spoken.
Actual hint!
Right? Finally the "hint" really does give useful information, and not just less-than-relevant trivia about the song in general (as opposed to about the specific recording in question).
had the rest of the night set aside to search
but they gave it away in the hint . made what would have been a quick search a one and done. think i'll go visit some shows i've stumbled across so far this time through the vaults.
false "thanks for entering today"
just had the same thing happen to me, Hornsby, sez i've already guessed tho i had only listened to the track. oh, well, hope my "entry" was the winner !
also, a new song in this show !
actually, just one that i had forgotten existed.
wow, just read the hint now...
that's weak sauce that they totally gave it away...
back in 2016 i gave up reading ze hints, as they were driving me mad & severely counter-productive to ze hunt...
sooo freakin glad that hint didn't ruin my fun...
& it looks as though tomorrow i'll do pretty much the saaaaame...
back to no mo hints...
How Do They Pick The Winners?
Daily: Is it the first one in? I better start burning the midnight oil. Or is it a random drawing of everyone who got it right. Seems like I entered twice on one day too by just going in fresh a second time.
Grand Prize: Random from all winners? Most daily wins? Random from all entries?
Haven't read the fine print anywhere.
Cheers.
Winners Rap
They choose the daily winner from all correct guesses received that day and I believe a correct guess gets you one entry for the grand prize (regardless if you are the daily winner or not). So 30 correct daily guesses would get you the maximum amount of 30 entries for the box set at the end. Back in the early days, it used to be first correct entry won the daily prize (I actually got 2 in the first year!) but that's not really fair due to time zones, jobs, obligations etc.
Glances? Looks? Its All The Same
The hint was definitely helpful this time though I still had to do some checking around because there are several important venues in Dead history. Bobby confirmed it.
The thrill of the hunt
I try to stay away from reading the "hint" or comments until after I have hunted for some time. It's nice to have a little help once an a while after you've looked high and low.
First Try
So I have a good track record over the last many years doing this, but nothing great. And generally the hints seem irrelevant, so I don't pay much attention, but sometimes like the "wedded bliss" comment earlier that took me right to the champagne show I think they're making some cryptic hint. But today's is the first real easy pitch hint I've seen. I like the hunt, but kind of nice just to go right to it and now I can listen to the rest of the show and enjoy!! Lovin' me some 30 days.
Surprisingly decent show...
.... but I thought it was a later date.
Finally Joining the REAL Fun...
Been playing so long I can't remember, but finally decided to join in on the comment fun. Love the game and reading about the experiences I was just too young to have first hand...peace!
Shooting glances
Dave's hint notwithstanding, Bobby helps us out in the first 90 seconds.
Oh, THAT important venue...
Solid version, thanks Dave!
Feel like a winner......
today! First I got picked for a free wall calendar and for that I'd like to thank all the little people:
my two ears, 10 fingers and the little hamsters keeping the wheel turning in my brain. Then Dave served up a big ol' softy of a hint today, making my day and my hunt for this FLAS a short one. I bet tomorrow and subsequent days won't be like that. Passing on good luck to everybody.
Well, the music's thunderin'
I can see clear through for the few versions I needed to listen to today
I believe that makes it 10 for 10 for me so far
But There ain't no point in looking behind us, no
20 more Days
Let's get on with the show, let's go
Some things you just know . . .
Loved that venue and was in the house for a couple of these nights.
Congrats @brassinthegrass on yesterday’s win. This is a ton of fun, and thanks to everyone for all the great comments. Some enjoyable reading here for sure. Best of luck when Dave throws us those inevitable curve balls!
All I can say is...
when you are done listening... don'tcha come around here anymore... At least until tomorrow. That was fun live and is fun now.
Ain’t no point in looking behind us, no.
Let’s get on with the show…….
How 'bout you?
Are you feeling stranger too?
Hell yes Bobby! I's hoping we'd get a WEIRd Stranger this year. This version rips.
crazy crazy
thought i had it, didn’t like the sync…..
so many venues were important to me for 18 years of shows, so i didn’t pick up on it.
after several hours of reflection ( lying around listening to music) i went back and read thru the comments, idea bulb lit up, listen, sync, enter, and done.
so dave we still await the venue name controversy this year, as well as the studio outakes thrown in.
i gotta feeling tomorrow starts the real searches.
this is just a wonderful time and while i don’t know most of the regulars on this thread, y’all have become my november family for many years now.
thanks to all and stay healthy
Baltimore Show from Yesterday
I wouldn't be mad at a release of that 3/26/73 show. First time sitting with that one. That's good stuff. Really liked the duet Jerry and Phil have at the end of that half-step.
Great sound
A show from this era w/good mix. Bobby guitar tone not too harshed out. Saw a couple from another high-concert-count-venue near this date and city. One and some of the other were pretty darn good shows for the era as well. Stranger was a great song to set the tone, dial in the mixes and get the crowd ready. Always loved when that was up in the rotation. The little lead guitar bits right in the first few seconds helped to confirm this one for me today.
Have fun!
There ain't no point in looking behind us, no...
Thank you Barlow for all the great lyrics...and thank you Dave for giving us these good times each year.
Long long crazy tour
Curious question
We were at the 89 Hampton Warlock shows where Brent sang "gonna be a long long crazy night, gonna be a long long crazy crazy tour"
I've never heard another Stranger with "crazy tour". Is that the only one?
Hear what's coming next....??
Sure appreciate Dave's 'real' clue today. But what also clinched it for me were those last few little almost-imperceptible notes at the verrrry end, noodling along into the next song. Bullseye!
And thanks, Dave, for this rip-roaring version!
Was there
and taped it. Thanks for the gimme. Might of had to search a wee bit but someone named the venue in their post.
@Direwolf919...
haven't heard ever Stranger...
but pretty sure that is ze only time his sings "Crazy Tour!" after conferring with my breddren who were also at The Mothership 89!
((( u lucky truckers!!! )))
~ace.
Stranger is an underrated tune...
Picasso Moon same...
and @ doug b....
...which of the Rectum shows were u @???
1st night was an alltimer & will be a Dave's Picks at some point, as he rrrrrrreally digs it...
only saw 1...
the 1st night & it's was epic...
10/5 and 10/6 Philly 94
Ya I went to 10/5 and 10/6. Really enjoyed 10/5. And 10/6 was good fun too. But that 10/5 whew. Dave G put selections from it in on the Dead Zone/ GD Hour on the radio soon after. They had some fire in their playing that night.
AND @Ladnarc...
...is your recording on LL?!?
