I have already said this once this year but WOW, for the time period this is a clean recording. Musically the band was on their way, great jams, vocals harmonies and who doesn't like Phil coming through strong all the way through . Smile Smile Smile indeed.

I gloss over any shows on Relisten that don't have a SBD version. 5/12/81 was a valid runner up even though I knew it wasn't correct.

Sometimes it takes all day and you never find what you're looking for. Other times, like today, it takes about 30 seconds!

Based on my own proprietary algorithm -- which is in turn based on herbibot data -- the show that today's sequence comes from was the 60th most popular show of it's year.

Yesterday's song came from a show that was the 72nd most popular show in 1981.

Just wondering if there is an archive of past years' music. I have every year from 2014 with the exception of 2016.

Dave is really spoilin' us this year. What a fantastic sequence, especially "The Other One" and "Stella." The groove that Bill gets into during "The Other One" is fantastic, and that "Stella" is just beautiful. Fantastic pick, here.

It looked awfully suspicious from the start. Dug into the 30DoD archive and matched it up in less than 5 minutes with a previous year's selection.

The repeats are strong this year. I don't know if we have the collective force to fight off these slothful selections (3.5 repeats in 11 days!).

Nowadays my first move is to check the day's jam with previous 30DoD years instead of heading right to the archive. Doesn't have to be that way, but here we are.

Forever grateful nonetheless. Peace

I am hearing a tease in "He's Gone," but none of the websites I visit for my Dead researching are very thorough with their tease listing. (Unlike setlist archives for Phish, Umphrey's McGee, etc.) Does anyone have any good Dead setlist sites that *do* list teases?

setlists.net has lots of comments, sometimes includes teases. deadbase has some tease info, but not a lot from what I recall

Thanks for the reply. I do visit both of those sites (particularly during Novembers), but neither list what I clearly hear. No worries, certainly, just curious if there is a resource I do not know about. For how particular us Dead fans can be, I am surprised there is not a more thorough archive . . .

I feel like there's at least one person every year that does this. Common sense is not so common. SMH.

I’ve never come across a comprehensive list of teases found in Grateful Desd songs. The more memorable ones take on a life of their own- FEELIN’ GROOVY JAM or CLOSE ENCOUNTERS SPACE or MIND LEFT BODY JAM (opinions vary greatly as to the origins of that one) or DEAR PRUDENCE JAM (two are in lists I’ve seen but I can’t hear DP in either of them). But unlike PHISH (what is a SAN HO ZAY?) or other bands the Dead never seemed as interested in being so freaking cutesy by quoting other tunes into their songs.
That being said, they would more often “tease” their own tunes. Listen to 2/27/94 for the mind-blowing COSMIC CHARLIE tease before the Wharf Rat, or the 11/1/90 STANDING ON THE MOON tease (actually Jerry changing his mind) before again settling into a killer Wharf Rat.
Damn I love rambling about the Grateful Dead…

Man, that piano is so out of tune. Occasionally, Keith manages to find some notes that are in tune.

11/10 He's Gone was the first time in years I couldn't figure it out. Nice job selecting a track where the source isn't available on the archive, especially on a week night when I have much less time to hunt. I was also exhausted and suffering from food poisoning, weaving in and out of conciousness. Lost one round but the price wasn't anything.

in addition to a bass and drum/s solo performed by the band beyond beyond description. Nothing left to do but.......well, you know the rest.

As far as war whoops are concerned, nobody does it better than Bob who seems to be high in the mix on these performances, showing off his unique talents on rhythm guitar and vocals. Whoop, whoop!

I also finally got yesterday's after a Deadnet search. So satisfying after nearly giving up.

Moving on to today's full show. Very happy not to have back to back trouble hunting.

After the hanging curveball we had yesterday that sent many of us into a marathon search for He's Gone it was nice of Dave to lob us an easy, sweet pitch today. I searched high and low until well after midnight yesterday and finally submitted what might her the right answer. I've only missed one since 2022, but I have still not had the courage to look to see if I got it right. The bright side is that I now have the correct timings for EVERY single He's Gone every played for future offerings.

I had one of those flashes, I believe we’ve been here before in previous Days.
Lately, it occurs to me what a long awesome jam this is.
I am so Grateful the bus came by for me back in ‘84 and I got on.
Jerry sure could make those rusty strings shine.
Time to hang it up and see what tomorrow brings.
A huge thank you to those who served. HAPPY VETERANS DAY!

Some great fiery lead guitar playing. Love Bob and Phil on here as well. Sometimes Bob's part sounds like a Phil part and vice versa... great tones on the rhythm gtr and bass gtr.

Easy to grab the date/venue so it was off to enjoy the sounds right away.
