Talk about Stuck!
Going through all these things twice, and I can find anything. Help on the Way?
sweet intro
that smooth intro made it an easy pick from a pretty small haystack.
roll away
nice one Jelly! another win for the lifers.
right down the line
I've listened to this time-honored trilogy in previous years' 30 DoD searches. Love the extended intro into Help. Happy Friday finding, everyone!
Today's hint...
Oh man, today's hint made it TOO easy.
But thanks anyway, so I wouldn't spend hours trying to figure it out. :)
Help on the way!
I haven't posted much this year, there's so much going on in my life. I just wanted to hop in remind everyone that there are backups of all the 30 Days since we started in 2010. Search my user name and you'll find the site. I've actually got four correct so far this year, but haven't been able to spend much time searching. I love November, though! Happy Friday everyone.
WT Actual F?
The Internet Archive is down! I'm Dead in the water without it.
Check That
And what do you know, 2 minutes later it's back up! Help>Slip>Frank here I come!
Coming Down Again
Decided to throw in a Stones reference...anyway the Archive is down again
Slipknot
Back up again. The problem disappeared like a slipknot.
Don't know what's going on. When it is down the Archive sends you to its Twitter page for more info but there is no info. There must be a ton of Heads all hitting the Archive at the same time! I better search while the searching's good. Meanwhile, I sure hope there's Help On The Way for the Archive.
relisten dot net
Hello. Try relisten dot net . That s i t e works. Good layout to it as well
Crippled But Free
The Archive came back up for 5 minutes and I got it. I was able to nail the time period pretty tightly since my first show ever was exactly one week before this one.
Wow!
That was bad. Think I got up way too early today. I even knew what the next song to be played was you could here it a little at the end of Franklins.
Hartford, CT, Hartford Civic Center 1988-04-03
After listening to Black Peter based on some comments..... my guess is that this show will never get the "Dave's Pick" treatment.... ;-)
1988-04-03
I was there too...I think they were trying to make this show special it being Easter Sunday. It sounds like Jerry blew his voice out during the CR&S cause by Don't Ease his was loosing his voice.
Interesting night...
For several reasons this night is interesting due to some exceptions to the rules that there are no rules. Listening for an intro where the lead in music was short little statements from the band members and no presence of the usual blast-off starting chord hit. That's what clinched it for me. As others have mentioned.... I'm just waiting for the almost impossible studio rehearsal and or sound check offering one of these days. That will break my 100% average. All in the fun! Enjoy!
Attention to detail....
is the mantra of the day. 24:24 of solid jamming. The last 5 minutes or so of the Franklin's jam are worth the price of admission for me!
And in today's case, one really suits the other. Have fun and don't forget to listen to the music play.
Can't stay in sync
Well, I started a year off but got here pretty quick. Interesting smooth entry into Help, tight Slipknot and a rollicking Franklin's (loving Jerry's slick pickin' as well as the jamming). Only thing: this download is consistently a bit slower than any of the Archive versions I tried, making it impossible to sync for more than a few seconds - although that leads to some pretty trippy effects as they phase around and away. In another time's forgotten space? Oh well, got confused, I'll just listen to the music play.
winner winner turkey dinner!
Lucky draw for one of us 'lifers'. :-) Thanks Hornsby.
My very first win in approx. 290 correct entries. All the years combine, and melt into a calendar.
Thank you Dave and Rhino.
I know the inventory is limited, but how about some Pig.... please!
Confused?
May the four winds blow you safely home!
completely baffled
I have listened to every single brent era help slip frank and cant find at all very frustrating hint anyone??
all 38?
KenRat ............Thats 15 hours of Help>Slip>Fran!!!!
Do you have a deadbase?
I lost my deadbase
My bad. Hard to get now
Graeme Edge RIP
Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
Another day's useless energy spent.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one.
Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son.
Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colours from our sight.
Red is grey and yellow white,
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion.
Good night Graeme
Great wordsmith. That band had a few great wordsmiths.
Help, I Got It
A tad of a Rocky start, but I had it zeroed in on two years, so it did not take me long. "Listen to the music play!"
damn! another Venue
DeadBase shows a different venue than the relisten and setlist sites..didn't check it until after I submitted my entry.
Congrats M-Skjells!!
what Hornsby said...
we likey when one of us is da weiner...
&
@ Ken🐀
there is a recent Dave's Picks close by...
& the show after this one is in a place where they call pizza "abeetz" or something like that...
Hint
It's a day after a Dave's Pick. That's three days in a row of shows I attended. Woo hoo.
Bombs Away
Phil's playing on the intro to Help is what gives this away from the outset. He goes really low for a fat bomb that the board tape can't pick up. It's a show I've admired for a long time. A little manic in places, but the energy is very high. Once you find it, listen to the Neumann U87 AUD recording to hear how big and deep Phil really went on the intro. Might've even cracked the bell in Franklin's Tower.
::taps nose::, My Lighting Too
I see what you did there, lol.
Thanks for pointing me to this source. Excited to give that a whirl this afternoon.
Neumann U87
Thank You!!!
@deded54 - damn! another Venue
Yep, I saw that too. So....even though I know the show, I'm letting it ferment a bit until I flip a coin & submit my answer.
This makes the 3rd time this year for venue dilemmas when you include both Hartford tracks. Those were a bit more likely to turn out as they did, as "Hartford Civic Center," instead of just "Civic Center" which was one of the options.....and in fact, if my previous years' tracks are correct, "Civic Center" was an official name given for that very venue in another 30 DoD. Ah well, really doesn't matter to me since the joy is in the fun of the search and the fricking amazing music and the gift of 30 DoD we get each year! Thank you, Dave, and all involved!!
Thanks guys
You had to listen to the audience for things to match up right. Getting by with a little help from my friends
baseball season's over
no more curveballs :-P
Venue
I got to go with what's printed on the stubs and DaPs release. Make's the most logical sense, right? Otherwise, it's all a farce and what's the point of going on.
it's all a farce ?
i'm with moribundjt, tix & the Archive say.
and the winner is .....
don't worry about venue names. ..
Submit your answer, choose a venue name and you are entered. They'll choose a winner that gets the date and city state and any of the venue names that are in question if they list alternate wordings of a venue name. Their listing of the venue the next day does not mean the venue name is "right" nor that other names chosen are "wrong".
Archives down
Always used Internet archives to comparative listen, been a problem last to days , correctly guessed yesterday with out Archives, today again I guessed based on length of the song(s) & then surfed the net and discovered Relisten & confirmed my 2 correct( I’m hoping?) guess without comparison playback
Cool! Yes relisten is great. Careful w/timings tho..
Yes, relisten is a great resource. But I would be careful about looking at timings. They can be deceiving. The dead dot net site here can have a longer or shorter time length of a particular song or songs' medley than say the other sites out there. Both here and the other sites might have 2-3 minutes of crowd at the end of a track or tuning at the beginning etc. Archive is great when it's working because you can look at that spectra or whatever it's called and see the wave of the volume level throughout a track. Flatlines at beginning or ending indicate that old "dead air" haha
Good infoshare
Those looking for tips/tricks would do well to read the above post by dougbr1ne. Good stuff here and many thanks for sharing.
And I almost forgot to say CONGRATS! to
m-skjellyfetti for being the big winner yesterday. Sure is nice when fortune finds you from time to time. Who's next?
Archive key here
If you're keying in on the on the open then be sure to check the clues with Archive, relisten will only help with matching the Franklin's close. That's all I got but a mini streak after an bad start this year.
Enjoyed the heck out of these years with a lot of special Grateful Dead experiences.
I just gotta' be right on this one
...it's my Birthday! How nice they picked one of my favorite combos of all time. I love this jam regardless of what decade they chose to play it.
Was a Little Stymied
I identify with comments where people started and went the wrong direction. 1st time for me but frustrating! Once I put my thinking cap on (large aluminum funnel) it all came together. We've been treated to great sound for the most plate. Still scratching my head as to why "Cold rain and Snow" has now been played only 2 times now (3 times in 31 days).
Great pick today
Really dig the sound of the keys from this year. Sounds very L.A. Woman to me. A little hint for you all...the recording given here has significantly less crowd noise than the version I found on Archive! That keyboard noodling still cuts through it all, though! Good luck and have fun!
Simply
Grateful
I'll tell you where the four winds dwell...
In Franklin's tower there hangs a bell
It can ring, turn night to day
It can ring like fire when you lose your way
This was a hard one.
Even when Garcia couldn't remember the words, Tiger made sure he could shred.
Where's Today's?
I woke up thinking about what music to play and immediately thought of Seventh Sojourn by The Moody Blues. Then I went to the computer first thing to check the emails and read all the comments on the Dead threads. Lo and behold the comments were about the passing of a Moody Blues band member. Cue the Twilight Zone music. I'm tuned in today.
We seem to be on Help/Slip/Frank again today. Will check back later.
Cheers
It's Slipknot!
with an exclamation at the end.
