should be easy
Just have to go through and find the one where Jerry gets all the lyrics right. :-P
:-) :-) :-)
stretched-out Altheas
you love to see it.
this show is getting hot
This space is getting hot
When the smoke has cleared, you might be able to narrow down this search.
For a bit after this Althea it seemed Bobby might have been lacking in some direction, and a couple of his friends were getting most concerned.
Settle back, and enjoy one of my all time favorite Jerry tunes.
Thanks again David, and most of all thanks to the Grateful Dead for allowing recording of their shows so generations will be able to enjoy this music you cannot replace!
swish
just happened to start in the right place and first show i tried was the exact fit. except now what am i to do. i'll miss diggin around the archives. no such thing as too much Althea, just like the other day with birdsong. could listen to different versions all night.
nice recording of a tasty version of a great song.
Swish 2
The same thing happened to me, Hornsby! I am on the road with only a phone and I started making a list of the time period I suspected the Althea was from and it was the very first one I listened to. If it is, indeed, the show I believe it to be, it is one of my all-time favorites. And I have been puzzled why it hasn’t found it’s way in to a Dave’s Picks before now. I have to listen some more to confirm, but it’s a great show with great jams! Thanks, Dave!
Time is on your side
One of the first tapes I ever acquired when I started getting serious about the Dead, and still one of my favorites- the “banter” at the beginning of the second set is priceless and still makes me laugh…
Such a long version of the tune. They played ALTHEA for 16 years, but there is only one week… but I’ll stop there- don’t want to give too much away!
day 12: dont get burned
An appropriate song for a saturday, love this version. I have it in my personal sbd vault. Nice hint included that had me thinkin one way then confirmed it was the other. Love this tour as well. Two options for the venue i chose, hope i dont get burned by picking the wrong one, 12 for 12 here we come!
Tiger by the tail...
That tail end and then... was the clue for me. Had the tapes back in the day & loved 'em. Friends from school were from this show's town/area and sang its praises. Very release-able show. Yes I see what the poster below did there too! The venue is not flat.
Taking a break
The first one that is stumping me this year ... up there in the longest versions and I am missing something.
Althea. The whisper version.
This is such a beautiful version of such a great tune, so there's no need to yell it I suppose. And the acoustics in this hall sound clear as gin to me. The Jerry jamming during the 7:30ish-8:30ish period sounds exactly like John Mayer's playing. Er....um........I mean to say that in some Dead&Co. versions of Althea, Mayer plays his leads alot like Jerry does in this one. Even the pacing is very Dead&Co. like. Which is to say, both are good.
What a good day!
There is always an h... not sure who spells it without one!
I found this one quick by using the clue to guide my starting point and then used the last 30 seconds to make quick work of this one.
Gary Louris and Mark Olson?
Ohh the ones who spell it like that are probably just Jayhawkers....
The most wonderful time of the year
“H” or not…haha seriously right? Enjoying another excellent 30 days OD. It’s always cool to hear the resources, processes, and unique tipsand tricks people are using. Truly amazing. And not to mention all the trips down fuzzy memory lane a show can bring up. A beautiful Althea. It wasn’t in a iTunes library (which has 9 out 10 of these, but this year more like 4 out of 5) but was able to pinpoint the era then find the missing show in Relisten in short order. It’s what works for me. Soo many cool resources I need to checkout though. So glad you made it! Let the good times roll. Keep ‘em coming Dave. Love this place.
Jerhan with the assist
While I was close and needed to verify on archive, your comments gave me the faith that I was on the right track. After my break and a very rough day I finally got there. This took way longer than usual. I'll relax a little and thank you for the assist.
Real good hint...maybe
I have a comment from this morning which i thought was a very good hint. There's clues in the title and body of my comment. Good luck!
English is hard
The "h" issue is a good example of why English is hard to learn for non native speakers. The h could be sounded out with the preceding consonant in question or, said preceding consonant gets the sound.
The Fool
If you're trying to synchronize, I found the version of this song on archives is slow. It quickly falls out of sync so don't let that fool you. No pun intended. The key is the end and what song follows if you can pick that up. I know it can feel like you're behind a steel curtain sometimes but you can do it!!
First try!
Listened to the end and consulted DB50 and hit it on the first try. Awesome version, I love a laid back, slowed down take once in a while. Like Yes said, "the time between the notes relates the color to the scene". Pace, dynamics, emotion all roll together to take you to another plane. Always amazed me how they poured their heart and soul out every night, never once going through the motions or phoning it in... Looking forward to tomorrow.
Edit: I consulted Google Maps and it appears there is an H, not that it matters
The letter H
For some reason, in the drop down list , this venue is listed twice. Once with the letter H where it belongs, and once with it missing.
Closer to the Front
Worked my way from the debut backward and got it more quickly than I thought, considering there are like 350 versions of this (including Anchorage, AK twice!! (not this show)).
Firstly, this is a TERRIFIC version of Althea. Jerry's vocals are very much on point. Secondly, this cut is mixed much better than the extent versions on relist or archive.
Thank you as always!!

No time tosearch today, had church commitments. Have an idea and will see tommorow.
