Cosmic Charlie tease
I was also in the room during that awesome Cosmic Charlie tease. Completely exhilarating, and realizing there was no use in being disappointed, I was impressed how inspired it got the band. No slouch on that Wharf Rat, Loveling or Rain.
1940 ecstasy ?!?!
12 for 12
Great Line
For whatever reason, "As Stagger Lee lit a cigarette, she shot him in the balls" always makes me laugh.
You ain't going to learn, what you don't want to know
That is all.
what's to be found racing around?
on 1940s ecstasy
Okay, now I'm convinced…
Okay, now I'm convinced David L. hates Pigpen. WILL THIS BE THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR WITHOUT A SINGLE PIGPEN TRACK??? Come on, man!
@Jon Mitchell re: Pig
I guess you weren't with us for Day 7 with Pigpen singing Alligator(?). A mighty fine one, too, I must say!
guess we have to explain Pigpen every year
30DoD can't use cover songs. Pigpen had very few originals, so there will always be a very limited list of Pigpen tunes.
i am pretty sure that Dave doesn't hate *any* Grateful Dead music !
No ecstasy found
[ahem] Pretty sure it's "1940, Xmas Eve"
Stagger/Black Throated
A civilized puzzle this morning. I got it pretty quick but had to do some listening too.
30 DOTD - REPEATS
Spoiler Alert - Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Day #8 - Bird Song from 2/26/81 is a repeat from 2016 30 DOTD...it was labeled "Bird Song>Jam" on the 2016 30 DOTD.
Seems like with the 2350 shows the Dead played, that repeats would not be an issue for 30 DOTD, but...
Repeats
Anyone know how many repeats there have been since 2011? A handful or a CDs worth? All seem to be stellar. Testing grounds for 30DoD 20 year collectors CD.? Or just fits the allotted time opening. I'm aware 2010 was the beginning. No repeats that year.

Send me your email in the messages and I'll give you a sheet I put together that has all previous listings and repeats
Pigpen
Alligator, Day 7.
This 11/22/72 is glitch free, unlike some circulating copies
At first, I was not going to integrate this segment into the SBD I have of this show, then I realized my older copy is full of glitches. Just an FYI.
The Tease in "He's Gone"
So, did anyone else hear Keith tease "Shortenin' Bread" a few times in the "He's Gone" from yesterday's offering? Starts around 10 15 and continues for a minute before Bobby (then Jerry) start to play with it. Keith then revisits it at 12 15.
But I can't deny, oh, times have gone by
The song that woman sung was lookout Day 13.
You ain't gonna learn what you don't want to know. What a great lyric.
Not my favorite era for the band, but 2 great tunes.
November is passing us by faster than the buses and semis..
Couple choices of the crisp sounds...
More than one show had this back to back offering I see. The crisp crackly Jerry tone narrows it down for me.
Heh.... saw that Pigpen poster who makes the same comment year after year missed the Alligator appearance the other day hahahaha...
I love Pigpen too but I understand that dead dot net will offer up the songs that they do and that statistically Pig will not make as many appearances given the situation. I am sure that the dead dot net folks love him too!
My last show

Doh!
Followed a red herring and made my guess before actually listening. Only took a couple of seconds of listening to the correct show to figure it out. First time I've ever tried to enter and pulled the trigger too quick. Mea culpa.
that London Mar 24 ’81 “He’s Gone”—
Jerry’s singing in the vocal out-choruses of the London “He’s Gone” posted here on Nov 10 (from nearing ten minutes in to a bit past 12 min. in) is very evocative of the wordless vocal in Blind Willie Johnson’s recording of “Dark Was the Night - Cold Was the Ground” —check that out from the streaming services; it’s so similar at times, I think Jerry was consciously evoking it—if not, the resemblances are uncanny.
