there's something not just exactly perfect goin on here, but a proper 30 DoD hunter will be able to cypher thru...
...it would really be bloomin' awful to give this one away, sooo yea let em track this one down!!!
I smell what you're sellin' haha
I have never heard this title, as Deadbase always called it "The Main Ten," for its 10 beat rhythm. If this is the uncirculated official name, I'm impressed. File under "songs about time."
it was also called "Main Ten" on Micky's album "Rolling Thunder"
even deadbase can b off by one, just get all the pieces of the puzzle together, and after you have it just dream
Whelp . . . just gotta put a few puzzle pieces in place for this one. Things are not as they seem, but there it is. Got enveloped in the cryptical search, but came out smiling on my 1st choice. Have fun! And while we're at it, so very cool to hear the "added bonus!" Thanks Dave!
this should be fun
Right away. Thanks to their hint. This whole show is worth having. Put that on my listening list for later. Enjoy!
A hefty dose of Dead to start the day! I do some of my very best thinking on the toilet, and that's when the clue struck home like a goddamn thunderbolt. After that the search was not too hard. Vietnam War protests were hot and heavy (and sometimes violent) during this time - as can be heard on this recording.
Does anyone else hear some woman ranting about Vietnam during drums?
That's a lunker, what a gem! I look forward to this every November. Our month long show is getting deep.
Who needs coffee? That's how to start the day....
started off in the wrong era, but eventually found it...
So interesting to hear these early versions of songs. Well worth the hunt.
Followed by a sweet debut
Playin' November is the best ; )
Yes, indeed! I've already loved this show. Hoping that we'll get a Dave's Pick, or a box soon. I, too, started looking in a different direction, but quickly got back on track. Thanks, Dave!
Eternal love to the woman in the crowd who, around 3:10, starts to berate everyone to, among other things, "get off their a$$es and go out and help people" before receiving a short round of applause. The band even quiets down for her briefly. Plus it is a "dead" giveaway and I was able to enter the contest with no hunting. Good night Mrs Calabash.... wherever you are.
Even with all the hints this morning, that one took more effort to find than I'd like to admit.
This Main Ten not listed in DeadBase 50 or setlists.net. Dave's hint but more importantly the hint in the first few seconds helped me.
Edit: I was corrected. It is in DB50.
but, not with all the setlists...
check page 39
Done with students for the day. Gonna listen to this show all afternoon.
this can b 2 songs or 6 and a half depending on your point of view
had bit of a time nailing it down as several databases have it incorrect, but when i finally heard it even the tone deaf one knew it right away.
awesome jamming thanks dave...never would have searched this out on my own
Someone turned the 10 up to 11 in a couple of places.
Is always fun while discovering other gems in the process. I had a 'you dumbass' moment with myself however, after realizing that not only have we been here 3x before, and that I had this show saved... from years ago.
What the heck is "Main Time"? It debuted 6 months later? As what? That isn't the name of any Dead song.
I was frustrated too, but when the day had nearly ended, after discovering that DeadBase was no help, I realized that Dave's hint, while excellent, is misleading. The woman's rant is a big clue...
tried to delete a mistaken comment but it won't let me, so I'll just say I'm grateful for this music!!
the biggest clue is what 'Main Time' SOUNDS like, that should help you find the year from Dave's hint
the song title is wrong in DeadBaseX, so it's not in 'The Main Ten' list.
Even though today's hint told me the year and I knew I'd heard the chick's HOT harangue before, I still had to flip through a handful of shows....and found I actually have a tape of this....
I have no idea what venue. I’m assuming it’s 67-68 era ? Hard to tell. If you listen in the beginning. When it’s mainly just the drumming. You hear some girl shouting about Vietnam. That and the tunes lead me to think 67-68
This summer I hear the drumming...
This one was a blast to track down (and really there's only one - the protest rant and all).
Got a jam I was hoping for - thanks Dave!
So much ferment made for so much powerful music (and more gems in the search if you don't get it right away - some awesome jams). One wonders what music might be yet to come from our current turmoil - but I don't expect much except from the rappers, I'm afraid.
So grateful that we have this amazing time machine that allows us to enjoy the wondrous sounds even from before our own experiences with the band.
i am currently going through this year's music, show by show in real time (also enjoying Jesse Jarnow's commentary @bourgwick ), so this one was almost too easy.
while here, i want to once again thank all involved, from the band on down, for my favorite holiday ritual. it's such a pleasure to have this safe cozy space where we can all be Dead family.
and as always #thankataper !
Playing for years, never selected . . . but what a journey. . . Dave - no help today, it was the WWG venue (RIP, taken by copter, like hometown boy SRV). Just about to walk away, nothing matched, and much later than initial guess.
But the journey was a blast - cued up 6 concerts from era to download for later listening. Promo for chrissbendel and his "Grateful Grabber", a Chrome extension that makes downloading archives so, so easy . . .
Find the song he’s hinting at, figure out when it debuted in completed form, backtrack a spell and you’ll find it. Somehow I the first show I randomly (or educated guess) picked was it. The subject matter of what the lady is yelling about pins it to a pretty likely location too.
the organ in TLEO ...
Found this nugget in about 10 min., and spent the rest of the day going through some serious jams, one after another....what an era, Jerry was on another level!
Never understood why they shelved the song before this for 21 years
It's such a groovin tune. Never could figure why they stopped playing it.
Very cool that Dave gave us that one, from the same date, in a previous 30 DoD! Just listened to it again. Fun combo of guitars and some tasty solos.
And when the day had ended mind remained unbended, and I finally found the right version.
Not an easy one tonight, it left a smoking crater of my mind I like to blow away.
Good luck to those still searching.
I must have gone this period 10 times! Then I started expanding to ridiculous. Then went back to beginning with a new approach, and there it was! Should have found in minutes, not hours.
THis was my fav day so far.... Actually its a tie bc that trio day was fabulous too! I found the show thankfully. Bill's intro helped me narrow it down and the Vietnam speech was a real testament plus let me know i found the right one. the chanting during cryptical was eerie and i wish i could hear it better. Just finished the whole show from that date. It is so sosos awesome to have access to this music. Louie this is a Man's world! Not to mention the birth of a baby that grew so tall and lived so long through the years! Thanks Gratefully yours!
I’m enjoying figuring out which shows. This one I didn’t bother with since only had late in the day to even see what it was. So couldn’t spend long time listening to the whole thing then comparing to other shows. But man I wish they had an option either FlaC or MP3. Be nice to have all these in one section to listen to another time but I can’t do MP3’s. They are t he devil.
Today's searching and locating was the most fun I've had doing 30DOD. The subtle clues, the variations in song titles/tags(dare I say typo. No), the relevence and reverence these tunes still hold today, not to mention the outstanding sound quality on 30+ minutes of free, timeless music as art and expression....well I'd say it's time well spent. Forever Grateful!
(Late edit: I thought the intro voice sounded like Cutler, which really threw my search in a loop, not that it matters now.....Group thoughts appreciated).
...I definitely overthought that quite a bit, and it did indeed take longer than it had to. Great jam!
I guess this has already been said, but shouldn't it be Main Ten instead of Time?
I still like to think of it as Pump Song
