Days Of Dead
- Rev Willie4 months 3 weeks agoStarlight '85 Was a Blast!
I was at this show. I remember watching the adobabes whirling like dervishes in the aisles mid-way up the venue. A great scene inside and out. A great set. Lightning in the clouds all around the place, but no rain until later that night after the show. A beautiful gig in a beautiful venue. Best friend was down front center when he yelled, "EVERY LEAF WAS TURNING!" and then Jerry broke into Cryptical. Magical.

This was the first show I taped with somewhat serious equipment. It was quite a road trip and great shows. Loved the second set this night but the night before was also such a lovely Amphitheatre and the senior citizen ladies at the concessions were enjoying the Deadheads. So hot the day before they had hoses hanging over the fences to the outside of the venue to help us cool down. Absolutely loved seeing the Dead in these little venues ... even though I was there and taped it (Still have the masters) it took me a little while to make the fine connection!

Neighbor John Congrats!
John I do not know you but we are neighbors if you are in Perkasie! That is my mailing address anyway. So congrats from down the road apiece! Winner winner...
A Cy winner in the same year…
A Cy winner in the same year, means a lot here.
Well the music's thunderin', restless and hot
I got the feeling I was going to find this one real soon.
Then Brent showed me a hook and I said "Let's Go"
I got it from right from the top
There was really nothing I needed to add or do.
The 30 Days are flying by, lord you can see that it's true.
IMGR8FL
Only a few
from this year in 30DoD, but visited this show once before..the 2nd set is one GRATE long meld...
Takin' it outside
I got to see Dylan here in 2007. Yeah, I'm that cool!
landed at the right show
first choice. must be getting good at this
guess i'll hang out and listen to the whole show as advised.
First try here, too
I know what I'm doing with the rest of my morning.
Great venue
Still have my cassette masters when Merle Haggard played here
great tapes
Pretty crisp sbds of this show out there, enjoying the wild 2nd set right now. Flashback to...yesterday!
Big fan of both of these songs and these versions. Keith&Donna-era TLEOs are my favs. Lovely fall day here in the Mitten.
Me too
First try, nailed it. Thought I'd have to look at least a little while but the sound was very familiar. Turns out I was at this show. Then I dug out the cassettes I have of this show and it said on the label "MASTER Sennheiser 441s." Guess I even tape this show. Sound at this venue was outstanding, everyone got a good tape.
One thing I remember about this show is a friend of mine coming up to me with one of of the first prototype DeadBases. I had been half assed collecting setlists with grand visions of making a master list - big pipe dream. I remember one of the first things that popped out when I looked through it was "Ollin Arageed." What the hell is that.
It's that Hamza El-Din song played at the 3-13-85 show I was at.
I believe in yesterday
As a hint for today
I Can't Stop Wonderin' Just What You Got
Get the feeling I'm gonna find out real soon.
3/31/89
I was searching for a Thanksgiving recipe this morning. I found a scrap of paper with a few items that we were taking to a friends for Thanksgiving maybe 3 years ago. Root vegetables, stuffing, pie, etc. At the bottom of this list, in the center of the bottom of the list, circled, away from everything else on the list, read the following...3/31/89! That had to be my guess for 30dotd. I see that show made its way into this years 30dotd too!
Not too many choices
Based on Dave's clue. First year, correctly answered every day entered . . .
Sometimes inspiration fast, sometimes slow, if you get confused, just listen to the music play . . ."The band kept us so busy, we forgot about the time" - Just love November -
I was there...!!!!
I was at this show, then the next 3...!!!!
Pitch and level
Congrats to all who were at this show - must have brought back some real good memories. Yet another opener, another good one. Smokin' jam at the end of Stranger and nice interplay with Brent's various keys (not to mention the stuff that follows).
But... what's with this remaster? The pitch has been corrected from the Archive boards (nice, and I found a good aud that syncs fairly well) but the overall level is only like a third of the available versions - and way lower than the preceding day's selection. Yeah, I know I can just crank it up, but really? Please Dave, try to match the levels of the various selections, OK?
Yep, 'twas there
Yep, 'twas there, one of 22/25 that summer, and this was one of my favorite, but really not a bad one in the bunch for so many reasons. My bride walked down the aisle to TLEO just a few days from this date, actually walked across the lawn to the beach where we made our vows on the water's edge. Great venue, and remember laughing when I saw a T-shirt hawking in the lot "J-J-J-Jerry Coke". Also got me a first heard at this show.
Wow!
Now that's a story!! Awesome!
a little help
Sometimes after the first go you’ll just have to seek out other clues. Thanks to everyone for sharing below. Would have been awesome to have made some shows from this year. What a trip it must have been! Salute. Edit: what would you do if you had the vault at your fingertips? This segue got me because the playing was SO good. Unexpected.
Unexpected.
Both the year, AND the incredible virtuosity of Jerry's guitar playing during TLEO. TLEO is a great song! And it's extra great because "TLEO" it's so easy to find in Deadbase!!
There were so many Stranger-> TLEO though
I just briefly looked through my deadbase X while listening. Course first thing I listen for is who’s on keys. Brent obviously. I could tell it was an early 80’s show pretty quickly. But there are many early 80’s stranger into TLEO’s. Not like there’s only 2 or 3. But many this version is great. Shows off Jerry’s awesome unique style.
Jerry’s Voice
The quality of Jerry’s voice and guitar playing pegs a very specific period of time. Focus on They Love Each Others in that era and find the ones with Stranger preceding it. You can match Jerry’s guitar bits in the first couple seconds. Easy Peasy.
Agreed, a cassette era favorite!
I remember the unique setlist of this tape and the show itself making it a great addition to the cassette collection.
I did not realize how many times this combo was played.
Side note: Can't wait to check out the Jerry Merl GarciaLive Vol 15 release! Found a treasure trove of funky crisp Jerry Merl recordings in the past few years. When they get deep in the thick of it I just love it. Great driving around speaker music, walking around headphone music.
Venue
I think Micky gave a name to this venue .
Been so happy with choices lately!!!!
