HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!
HERE WE GO AGAIN...
haven't really searched yet for this one since the usual avenues will not be very helpful being a studio version, but a quick search of studio in the archives brings up some really cool stuff. guess i'll have to get creative to locate this one
-well i'm back and been poking around. think i have narrowed it down to two possible times, but can't locate a version to match up with. i guess this might be a time when having a copy of deadbase might come in handy.? since i don't, i don't really know. might just have to guess. maybe i'll see what's here tomorrow. i know one thing's for sure i have heard some really cool jamming and stumbled into some new shows. amazing what you find having to dig into that second and third layer
third times a charm!! or is it. thought i had it. upon further listening it doesn't really match up. and it's only 5am. good thing i'm unemployed again. found a version in my regular source but had to do some real digging to get there. did not come up on it's own. still haven't pulled the trigger on this one but i feel like i'm so close.
how grate that ten years into this Dave can still get me to so much new music and even really interesting information. found a great source for obscure tracks like this. gonna bookmark that page for sure. what an awesome 30 days.
I believe I am exactly right there with you at the same spot!. Close, but no kewpee doll...yet.
Dave....Can we win 1 or 2 pages from the calendar for selecting the right week?
. . . dang, it’s definitely not a charm this time. I’m sure I’m right there with ya on this one. Really thought I had it—so, sooooo, oh-SO close—but it’s definitely not the one. Even Jerry’s count-in is ALmost exact, and each lyric sung seems imperceptibly the same, but alas, it’s not the one. Yep, it's SO close that it feels like we must have the very next recording, but it must be tucked away in the vault, out of reach. Dave must be giggling this morning.
Well, I’ll keep digging a bit more, but really just for the fun of tripping across all the gems along the way—and learning a lot while I’m at it. That’s always one of the best parts of these 30 Days. Cheers!
Is the venue even in the dropdown list?
I'm gonna hang back today and re-listen to 2/9/73 and its 19 minute debut of Eyes. Studio outtakes are interesting and all, but admittedly neither exciting nor search-worthy imo. See ya tomorrow \mm/
My favorite Eyes! Love how they "practice" jamming into it. The anticipation is awesome. Plus no minor chord jam...
Way to ruin a 20 for 20 streak. The liner notes for WotF states "recorded at Record Plant, Sausalito, CA (8/6/73-8/15/73.) Sausalito Record Plant is not an option in drop down. I have a folder of outtakes with a different Eyes. There is no exact date though, just 73-08-xx. This eyes isn't there anyway. The series of Unknowns in drop down menu is fun.
“Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns- the ones we don't know we don't know.”
― Donald Rumsfeld
well, to my ear, the count in for the readily available and wrongly dated version is identical. But the mix and other details are off... not finding anything else or any correct dates or possible venue for the recording, etc....
be interesting to see if there's a winner
there'd be a quotation on here from a neo-con like rummy trying to sound so profound while stating the obvious
I know one person who knows the answers...good one Dave for a Saturday
I guess we can all narrow it down to one week or maybe he's throwing us a major curve ball.
(I'm with Smallz today - "ya'll go ahead") - I jumped in late this year (busy with work) but I'm 9 for 9. I've wasted hours in past years looking for these studio outtakes. It's a great Saturday in Austin for a long bike ride . . .
Interesting that no one has commented on the "very different additional instrument" (I am stumped by the buzzy twanging in addition to that organ and the guitar plucking that sounds almost like mandolin - could it be a banjo, played by someone other than Jerry, or maybe a dulcimer or a harpsichord??). Makes me think that maybe they were fooling around with NRPS or some other bluegrass friends at Mickey Hart's barn? Anyway, I have to think that Dave's clue is the key to this, but I don't have sources that would help for that kind of search. For those who do, go at it, and happy hunting!
I play guitar and I am not 100% what you hearing but if I am right about what your talking about it’s just a guitar. I listened to it on my phone though so it’s possible if it’s something really subtle maybe I can’t hear it.
...are just not meant to be found. Wild guess on the date for this one. Tried to research as much as I could, but came up empty. I guess we will have to wake tomorrow to discover the song that David brings.
Just go with your gut, It's just a game.
Breaks a 12 song streak, but have found it too frustrating on these studio searches. Sure have been pleased overall this year! Was wondering if enough good tunes were still available at this point, and Dave has done an admirable job! Frees up time to clean my gutters and watch a little f ball.
Well the @#$)%( Plant is not even an option, Beyond my means but I threw one one guess because why not and listened to some of Roovevelt Stadium
I have picked up some good nuggets today during my search, and really gave it my best, reading articles, forums, digging deep with archives, recordings, lists, photos, interviews, pulled out my copy of 'This Is All a Dream We Dreamed: An Oral History of the Grateful Dead', and I'm just flailing at knuckleballs like trying to catch a butterfly with tweezers. Time to put my money down and spin the wheel.
this is so great. Nobody can pin it down. Reminds me of the EAC jam 2014. I have gotten every song that can be gotten since New Speedway Boogie 11/1/2010..... (haven't won yet, but that's ok lol) This Eyes is crazy good .... but aren't they all?
Since 2010 without a win ... hmm sorry. I wonder how many people are playing? I've seen many multiple winners. I'v only been consistent with a system since coming back from overseas.
Vassar Clements - violin
Matthew Kelly - harmonica
Bill Atwood - trumpet
Joe Ellis - trumpet
Martín Fierro - saxophone (alto, tenor)
Sarah Fulcher - vocals
Frank Morin - saxophone (tenor)
Pat O'Hara - trombone
Doug Sahm - bajo sexto
Benny Velarde - timbales
This could be a rare miss for me too, like 2014's EAC Jam. I'm going to throw the dart behind me while looking into the hand held mirror! Wave that (surrender) flag, wave it wide and high!
in the venue dropdown, scroll down to "Unknown" because clearly it was "Unknown" to me that there were all these different "Unknown" choices!!!
given the venue choices i'm in the dark anyway even though i feel i know where this took place. that's show business!
when there's no record of 8/8 in NYC in any lists and when records show the Dead were in the studio at that time...and I don't consider Keith at the organ as a diffferent instrument...
Hardly a surprise, given that the "correct" answer is wrong and the actual venue isn't even listed as an available option.
Congrats LeeBob802, great sleuthing!
I'm claiming partial credit for LeeBob winning since I declared him a winner in my "eyes!"
i am so happy with my record this year that i dont care if i get a calendar i still feel so good and have a new playlist again...love to drive and play the 30 days so i get variety
thanks dave...this one was as easy as knowing how to spell eyes instead of scar
peace to yall,
But I had the right date but the studio wasn't an option to choose.
