Days Of Dead
Casey Jones
Hint:
A steady presence in the repertoire in its first five years, and only sporadically for the next 20 or so years after that

Detroit, MI, Easttown Theatre
From 1969 to 1974, Casey Jones was played frequently, but upon its return in 1977, it stuck around ocasionally until 1984, and then returned for four performances 1992-1993

LeeBob8021 month 3 weeks agoI caught twoIt took almost 5 years to hear a live Casey Jones, but I got the two they played in '84. The Merriweather Post Opener electrified the crowd as it was the first time played in 133 shows. The BCT Encore of the 11/2 show was the break out of Gimme Some Lovin'. Then after the Jerry bust in early 1985, we didn't hear Casey Jones again for another 8 years. This was a serious challenge to find today's answer, but glad all the same. This must be heaven, tonight I crossed the line.

Casey Jones
That was a good one.
not too bad
fun search. casey took me to some good places before landing at the right station. ever notice how you're like -wait is that it, ? that could be it? is that ... and you spend so much time trying to see if it fits but when it does fit you know right away. some good clues in the mix to narrow down the listening.
trouble ahead
this one could be the search.
Back Bunrer
Should be able to narrow this down. My search will have to wait though; headed our for some hiking in the CVNP.
Now I can tell you
I have a high res 32 bit version of yesterday's show, its 16GB, kinda ridiculous, it is around on the internet if anyone is bored.
And you know that notion
Take my advice you'd be better off playin 30 Days of Dead.
Watch your speed as you hunt for this show. I had a bit of trouble ahead of my search, but finally left that trouble behind as I came across the right notes.
You know it’s the end of Day 23. Only 7 more Days until December.
Enjoy today’s challenge.
Happy Sunday Funday!
looney tunes jam?
First I thought I heard a little beer barrel polka, but then after a few times it sounds more like looney tunes…does not help me in my search but it is fun
Good ear.
Yeah, that's a bit of the Looney Tunes theme (aka The Merry Go Round Broke Down). Like you, recognizing it hasn't help me narrow the search any, but it's fun.
I think i can call the year and month,
But that's it
Good God this took a while
Searched for almost an hour to find the Looney Tunes tuning one, but finally got lucky and found it. Had a déjà vu along the way.
Not Too Bad At All
Putting some musical clues together, I narrowed down the possibilities to just around thirty shows. Not the slog I was anticipating!
Listened to every CJ this lineup did
Then had to make a 2nd pass to find a source with bugs bunny
Now i can get back to listening to insane eyes 80s speed runz

That was a good one!
That was a good one!
Easy to recognize
There is much debate over whether or not the keyboard player played an upright piano during this tour. There may be a stage photo or two where it looks like he is playing an upright, but I've ready that it was actually the usual grand, just with a primitive pickup that didn't sound as good as it would during the next tour.
There is a way
to narrow this one down if you notice what's missing. Not as many shows as it seems at first glance.
Stumped and Frustrated
I must've heard every version from 1971 to 1974 of "Casey Jones," save for ones I could safely eliminate, and none of them matched up. I feel like I'm going crazy, and moreso I feel frustrated. What am I missing that apparently everybody else is not?
other than
other than commercial releases, what did you safely eliminate? maybe the answer is there.
Yes what am i missing
Thinking too much or not enough, comment clues, i’m lost and confused, tried to find a looney jam, or find song at particular spot in show, went all over, now trying one by one, must b missing something that keeps me from needing to check every single show in 1972…lol just example as they played it every day it seems. I take a break and try later don’t want my laptop flying out the window yet.
Maybe try looney tuning.
Maybe try looney tuning.
The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down
Soooooo... I think I know the musicians here, with that assumption there is only 215 possibilities hahah. Have not found it yet but honestly it's a beautiful journey. I actually started from the start just for the heck of it and it was very interesting to hear how Casey developed. The opening riff we all know took about 20 live performances before Casey's opening became recognizable. This particular version is smokin, I think I actually hear Jer egg the boys on to keep the pace. Happy Hunting. Th-Th-That's all, folks! :-)
Side note…
The Estimated from today in ‘79 is so gooey.
Yeah
that's a great Estimated
Trouble ahead? Trouble behind?
Better keep that old engine in park till the blizzard passes.
FINALLY
At long last, I finally found it - it was, quite literally, the last place I'd expect. Touche, Dave! He must like this show a lot!
Tapping Out
Can't find this one
Uncle (John's Band)
After reading the comments, I don't feel so bad. Dave wins this one.
There's one every year
Where Dave pulls a wascally wabbit out of his hat and I'm guessing this is one of those. One year he had a practice session. Another he had a recording that wasn't in my Deadbase. Toss us a lifeline guys. I've been at it on and off for 5 hours.
Cheers
travelin' again
finally got this engine into the station after a long slog on the tracks. they played Casey Jones nearly every show back in the day! somehow missed it on the first pass through but caught up to it by sundown. even went looking for Merry Go Round Broke Down stats! didn't find anything too helpful.
Dead on the Tracks
Hate to do it, but I'm throwing in the towel!
Guys
It’s really kind of easy. Listen to it.
Was about to Hang It Up and See What tomorrow Brings.....
But got it after some re-listens later in the afternoon!
Good hunting....you and me bound to spend some time wondering what to choose....glad it's the weekend...
No it isn't
Unless you listen to multiple sources. Just as someone earlier posted I had checked this one maybe even more than once in this marathon and it took a different source to get it. I was in the right ballpark at least twice. Job done!
Cheers
when every inch of tape mattered?
They can try to suppress the Looney Tunes at the beginning but not the Woo! after the white powder line.
Had more trouble with He's Gone in London (day10)
This Casey was pretty easy..about 3-4 tries to narrow down the year(s)
The top tape of the show on Relisten had the calliope sound intro where all the others had it cut...if ya checked the show, it was obvious.
Last week I happened onto a studio session tape on Relisten that had them rehearsing this 'Merry go round broke down' cartoon sound. (I found no record of it in DBX.)
It did help me to close in on the year for today though.
The Marathon has ended
It's not a foot race but dang it seemed this way today. Great job DAVE we've all been waiting, and you hit us hard today. I gave up sat back and returned bound and determined to succeed. Like catching fish by hand once you get. GREAT NOODLING!
found
I knew where it where it should have been.. I just couldn't find it.
Thank you Dave & Co.
