Are the hints getting better....
... or am I getting better at finding the useful information in them?
If you need a little lovin’
call on me . . . and I’ll tell you right where to find this combo.
I put this & that together with a few clues in the beginning and end, and I landed right on it.
Cheers to another of our 30 days!
There is a price for being free
And it's calling him, from that misty swirling sea.
I’m gonna go for it for sure…
There were more of these than I would have thought. Sometimes the clues are good, other times not. And because of that I usually forget to read them. Today’s was spot on and if I had bothered to read it I might have saved a little time and nailed it on the first guess instead of the third.
i like the end
another one and done, we'll say 50% skill 50%luck
i like the end where its like you're listening to a boot that your buddy gave you with the remnants of whatever was on the tape before they copied over it
horrors of horrors as i realize my list goes to 23. forgot to record a days entry. got all the downloads, so must have entered or did i
sloppy showing for hornsby this year, but having fun and will concur this years selections have been stellar
burning a set of cds for the car for sure
sure don't know what i'm going for
1st letter of each song... Lucy?
Hee hee... we had fun with this triple when labeling cassettes. The way the 1st letter of each song lines up at left margin...
odds against me been increasin'
but I pulled through. The hint is actually helpful today.
Anyone else like to put their 30 DoD collection on shuffle play for the rest of the day?
Safe travels to everyone on the move this week!
say what?
Had the year pretty solid in my head, then got stuck at that last station, but I pulled through! Should have read the hint...
right from the start ...again
picked a starting point .... turned out correct...just lucky or getting the hang?
Had a vague idea and ignored the "hint"
nice to hear Jerry's voice on this Wheel along with an excellent Black Peter
LSD
A little LSD sequence for this holiday season. Very nice. The hint made it a slam dunk. The sync with the board tape was painful but the sync with the oade-schoeps source was spot on.
And this years 30 DoD has been the easiest by far. Everybody wins and has a chance for the big box set. Good luck to you all. Also thanks for whomever it was that pointed me to jerry base dot com. It's better then setlists dot com when searching for sequences.
NO PIGPEN
More shitty Bobbie songs and still NO PIGPEN? WTF, guys. This is year 2 w/o Pigpen. What gives?
Pigpen
Yeah, love Pigpen, more so than other members, but fact remains, as someone recently stated, copyrights, GD only has so many Pigpen songs penned by him or the band. But "The Stranger"or "Easy Wind" seems to fit and there are enough versions that it would one of the easier challenges.
back and forth
until….
was trying to zoom in to bobby at beginning of saint but…..nothing.
started at end and went back, must have missed it first time but just when i thought i would have to throw my notes and start again, the missing angel appeared.
reinforces comments from previous days about best eras.
great trio thanks dave
freedom from or freedom to be
I am thankful for anything David wants to post. Thoroughly enjoying this year
Never could read no road map...
And I don't know what the weather might do,
But hear that witch wind whinin'
See that Dog Star's shinin',
I've got a feelin' there's no time to lose,
No time to lose!
Thanks again to Barlow for soulful lyrics!
Sure Did Know What I Was Going For
I had the luck of the draw helping me on this one because this was one of the very first Dead shows I went to and I have listened to this show many times before and the Sailor>Saint was already one of my favs so this was tailor made for me to find!
I understand that some folks don't like this song, but I love it. When I was at this show I was still a newbie. I was already 100% on the bus since my first show the previous year, but I was still learning the repertoire and this was one I had never heard before that night -- but it was love on first hear.
It spoke directly to me: I'm a lost sailor? Check. Driftin' and dreamin'? Check. Don't know what I'm going for but I'm gonna go for it for sure? Check. That's the price for being free? Check. Holes in what's left of my reason? Check. Holes in the knees of my blues? Check .
Yeah I was definitely on board that ship -- still am and always will be.
Ellis Dee
The site's hint really gives it away today. Great tour. Saw my first show just 2 days after this. Great Charlie M board out there wow. Crystal clear. 24 for 24. Never got this far at 100% . Waiting for that impossible sound check and or rehearsal entry. Have fun!
Edit to add... wow that Jerry lead at end of Saint. Loved it when they could get Saint right and nail the dynamics. The Deal JG solos are great too!
I should also have read the…
I should also have read the hint...
Funny, I thought this one…
Funny, I thought this one would be easy but didn't go with my first instinct so I went back and checked /half listened to numerous LSD's from late 80 on....turns out my first thought was the best thought....This was a great trio BTW.
Lovin' the 30 days!
"I tell you what", I knew right where to find this as it was the second GD show I saw! I was at several of the shows in this years edition of 30 days. So great listening back to them and the other gems. Thank you for a month of fun.
@Ben-jammin'
What was your first?
@The Fool
4/27/84 Providence Civic Center. After this show, I was on the bus!!!
Clues
For all those who say the official "hints" don't mean anything, sometimes they clearly hand us some softball clues. I'm not one to find shows quickly, but they gave this one to me on the first try.
I had great fun on this tour--and it was the first time I took my soon-to-be wife to a show. I'm thankful we're still together!
And it's calling you, where to go, where to be
I got a feeling there's no time to lose with David’s clue
I actually did know what I was going for
I guess it goes to show you don’t ever know what you will get by reading the ‘hint’
6 more Days
You and me bound to spend some time wond'rin' what to shows to choose
Bout four years off.
But I found it eventually and it was a nice surprise. Now I have to explore that particular era more thoroughly obviously.
One question however: What is the thing about freedom??........But if it don't matter to you, then it don't matter to me.
Now I must identify the mysterious 4th track fragment that David slipped in as a tasty dessert to this bountiful Thanksgiving feast!
Freedom
I don't know why he adds the part about "if it don't matter to you, it don't matter to me" part but the part just before actually describes a sophisticated distinction in philosophy and political theory between positive vs. negative freedom. Negative freedom is "freedom from" in the sense of lack of outside constraints on your action. Positive freedom is "freedom to" which means not only are you free in the sense of not being prevented from doing something but you actually have the ability and the means to positively do what you want to do.
The mysterious 4th track fragment
Oh, I know exactly what that is! It jumped out at me, too, upon 1st listening to the track and I used it in my search for the right date. I never found exactly the same bit that Dave included, which must mean his is clearly from the Vault, but I definitely found a version out there with juuuust enough to clinch it and to know why it was there. Don’t think I’ve ever seen something like this show up in 30 DoD before and it was another fun puzzle to solve. If you’re still curious tomorrow, jot a note & I’ll tell you what I discovered.
…all you gotta do is pick up the telephone and dial now…

Hmmmm
That was kind of random. Meanwhile, there have been some hints this year that are almost too good. As opposed to years past when they were no help at all.
Kinda why I stopped going to shows....
.
I'm Thankful...
For all this great music this year. Thanks Dave!
Got there but
My memory had not served me well, even if I had focused on the hint. So I did get a little stroll through how these were played together over a number of years. Seeing the evolution is always fun, if you have the time.
Houston
we have a problem. Deep breath.
Jerry smokes on Deal
Garcia's playing was great this tour. High energy shows. Saw the next two after this one and Jerry's voice was completely shot. 30 days...So Far so good.
oh boy
always a few troublemakers out there...each new post pushes them down further
what the fuck pdiesel?..finger stuck??
call the hotline if it's ALL TOO MUCH
Dave's "hint" is just background on the songs...I never use them to find the answer.
todays might have narrowed it down for some..didn't do a thing to help my search
Just in Case a little stressed??
Level of detail
I am amazed at how much focus I will put on just a few notes at either end of the songs to use as clues when searching for the match. I start imagining picks on strings and fingers on keys, etc.; hearing each stroke. I typically repeat intros or outros about 10 times before doing the archive dive to listen for a match.
Any idea??
What that clip was at the end of the LOST SAILOR>SAINT OF CIRCUMSTANCE>DEAL
Providence, RI, Providence Civic Center
April 4, 1985
The clip from 11/24/21? I feel like it’s a snippet from a JGB performance. Anyone have any insight?
Co5mic Charlie
I Shazam'd that clip and turns out it's a bit of a Ry Cooder song called 634-5789. I guess someone ran out of cassettes and decided Ry Cooder would have to be sacrificed. As a kid, I recorded over Billy Joel and Meatloaf tapes to record the Dead live on the radio on 11/24/78.
Deadbass
Thanks so much!! It’s been racking my brain!!! I find it interesting that Dave included that snippet.
