Days Of Dead

Let It Grow>Don't Ease Me In
Hint:
Two traditional first set closers played here back-to-back, a not uncommon event when the Dead just felt like playing a bit longer

Dayton, OH, Hara Arena
By 1981, both "Let It Grow" and "Don’t Ease Me In" were common first set closers, but occasionally they'd play them together, giving the sense that they just weren't ready to leave the stage.

Coincidentally, these two songs were played the most times during this year of GD history (and it's not even close).

Feels like we've been here before...

Got the right year, but off by 2 weeks...not too bad for no record of the Club Front happening.
Almost went for the '75 studios due to the lyrics, but Jerry's voice had to be later.
Today's show is so full of energy...the boys are ON!! ...and with Jerry's strong voice and sharp playing along with a damn nice list AND a Charlie Miller soundboard, it's definitely a WHEW!!

Relisten; my friend built the site and it "scrapes" the Archive and makes it much easier to find and listen to shows. And I don't use DeadBase; I prefer to search with Setlists.net.

I usually use setlists.net but it doesn't search song combos or 'which set' like setlist.com can.

Deadlists.com will allow you to search setlists in a bunch of different ways. I use that site and Deadbase when searching for the sound.

After yesterday's crazy ride, I got this one on the first try. Yesterday, I found the link to the Taper's Section from 2007 where Dave offered up the Crazy Fingers, but could not get the link to work on any of my devices. Was flying blind. Looked at the everyone's schedule (Jerry was pretty busy), and picked a date. I was off by two weeks. Way to go Dead Pondo! At least I got the venue right. Was also looking at the soundcheck from 4/9/82, of which there was no recording. They also teased CF after the Shakedown on 4/6.

I pretty much mirrored the process summarized below by D-Rae. Unable to discover or trip over any recording. Jerry's voice eliminated the 75 sessions, so I went with a slapshot from the blue line at the Rochester sound check. What fun though!

I came very close to going with the 4/9/82 sound check and looks like a few others did too. You were actually closer than me, just in the opposite direction.

Just reminded that the last day is 5 days away...

I didn't have the day of the week so I guessed and was 20 days off. Curious to know if Dead Pondo knew it was the 26th or guessed it was. If they knew, where did they get that info?

OK...I found where the Tapers section mentions the rehearsal in March ( never would've looked there without the clue), but nothing about San Rafael and Club Front on the 26th ..and these QuickTime Movie??? files do not open in Media player or VLC

Been using my Deadbase IX and an iOS app called DeadSpread which is a window into the Archive for both bands Grateful Dead and Widespread Panic. It’s not perfect, but it’s a whole lotta music! And some of you here may like both, you never know. Especially if you like black licorice! Heart.

Hey now! It was a very lucky educated guess. I always key in on the keys to get to the correct era. I heard Brent playing his Yamaha CP-70 electric grand piano which he used only in 1982. Then saw that they soundchecked Crazy Fingers on 4/9/82 and saw in Deadbase 50 that they rehearsed it on 3-xx-82. I figured the rehearsal must've been about a week prior to the spring tour and went with Thursday, 3/26/82 figuring they "work" during the week and not on the weekend. Luck is on my side this year as I also correctly guessed the 8/8/73 Eyes but couldn't select the Record Plant...still not sure how LeeBob802 got that one! This is my second 30DoD win...I won a deck of cards several years ago on a fat TLEO from a Deer Creek 1990 show that I attended...RIP Brent! Crazy Fingers is one of my favorite tunes, so if I may indulge, check out my contribution to the 2015 Dead Covers Project. I'm looking forward to February for another round! Have a great Thanksgiving y'all! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeZzzr5FlrM&ab_channel=JohnPaulRoccafor…

Just curious, is the Eyes Of The World (Outtake) on the 21st the only venue that has been corrected or changed this year ?

How the hell did anyone find that rehearsal from 3-26-82? Is there a secret place in the archive or deadlists, etc, I am not aware of? That's seriously an unfair selection. Today's was much easier and a nice recording especially for the year.

I didn't find that Crazy Fingers because don't have any copies of Deadbase. I hang my head in shame.

I have a Deadbase IX and a Deadbase 50 and in my idle hours it's fun to compare them and see how much more they have discovered (set lists, date corrections, new shows, etc...) between the two printings.
I thought it was a 75 rehearsal at first too, but after listening to those recordings on the archive I decided it was hopeless...until mid afternoon when I realized that i was missing the most obvious clue- Jerry's raggedy voice! So I re-read Dave's clue, realized it had to be 82 (76 + 6), then found the sound check from 4/9/82, and going back into the updates in Deadbase 50 I saw they played Crazy Fingers on 3-xx?-82...but when I looked for a recording there was none to be found....So I should have just guessed...but I didn't....because I don't like to get it wrong! I guess i need to get over that...somehow, it's easier to console myself with the knowledge that it can't be found, rather than waking up the next day and seeing that i was wrong....probably need to work that out in therapy :)

I know a lot of Dead Heads disagree with me, but I have tried and tried to get on board with later shows and always find them mediocre. I was sorry to see so many of these shows in this 30 days of the Dead. I just don't get what people see in them when one can listen to the infinitely superior shows of 1968 - 1977.
