Found it quick ... not like yesterday which should have been easy!
and be thankful and grateful were here to enjoy the music!
this whole show is a killer set of music.
great recording also
i highly recommend GIVING it a listen.
your ears and brain will say THANKS
see what i did there? have a good one everybody.
Still no Pigpen. Been waiting 10 years for a Hard to Handle. C'mon guys. Anyway always grateful for new tunes.
Lucky for my wife I found this one rather quickly. Now it's time to help her in the kitchen. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hornsby's right - this show kicks during a year when they were "on" far more than they were "off". Love this song (although I favor earlier versions). Bob's phrasing and the keys were helpful in finding this one.
I have to address comments i keep seeing. 1. They aren't posting other people's copyrighted material, so those hoping for pigpen aren't going to get it, because he sings mostly covers. 2. They aren't posting anything officially released or being prepared for release, so there is going to be more much 80s and 90s era then others.
I love all eras and maybe someone can school me...is there any reason other than phils own demand to exclude his material? I know he insisted dick's picks 1 edit his bass jam, and wave to the wind was kepts off road trips cal expo on what otherwise was a complete show. ready or not feels vastly imcomplete to me without his tunes. do we have to wait for him to transcend this earthly life to get it out, or is that never gonna happen regardless? and am i the only one who cares lol..
anyway thanks dead crew and those folks posting! happy thanksgiving!
Wikipedia has an interesting bit concerning the “last album”. Of course, deadnet even admits that the Ready or Not release is a “reflection” of what their studio attempts were getting at in 1992. Check out the info: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unfinished_Grateful_Dead_album
Neither the 5/26 or 5/27 shows are represented in their entirety on the complete Road Trips 2.4 Cal Expo set (bonus disc included). The “Wave to the Wind” you referred to is from the 27th of which only 11 tracks are presented amongst all 3 discs. It is the previous night’s concert (5/26) that is complete with the bonus disc ... almost ... as the “Space” from 5/26 is not included on RT 2.4. Not surprising as it would be nearly an additional 25 minutes! I know ... technicalities!
Got this B. T. Wind on my first try! I think that is the second time for me in all the years of 30 DOD! Who’s playing in the band should get you there pretty quickly! This last half of this particular tour would have been a real good time!
This was the 1st version I listened to and passed up on it without studying long enough.
Went through about 17 other versions before completing my homework and coming up with the right answer I should have had from the start!
What's to be found, racing around all these versions...
Happy Thanksgiving all!
It was that YEAH. Think of the crowd sounds & reaction and more importantly, the people that are playing certain instruments. That will get you the era.
You could hear the guitars play
It was very nice...
You remember that girl at this show? Man, she couldn't dance
Pretty easy one, and a nice version! Hadn’t heard this one. Always nice to hear Bob singing like a human being rather than a 3rd generation Springsteen clone...
Really enjoy this game. Haven't had time every day to participate but I still like listening the the tune and reading all the comments. After however many years it's nice to see the same folks kicking around. Kinda like running into those heads you'd see at Alpine Valley every year that you just see when you go there.
Hopefully by this time next year we'll all be enjoying live music again.
Man Jerry is soaring while Bobby is full send with the vocal effects Phil blowing it up drums going off keys absolutely going bananas yeah baby this is my kind stuff!
“It's forced me to see that you've done better by me, Better by me than I've done by you”
But trying to lose? Ain't gonna learn what you don't wanna know, you know. So break through that wall and spend a little time listening to the sweet sounds coming from this show and yer' blues will become nothing but BLUE SKIES, Dead ahead! Thanks J.P. Barlow RIP!
strugglin man this morning. trying to balance the day and listen to this... would love some better clues as I just can't seem to find the time with the right show but I know I'm really close. any more clues to help out. Cheers. Happy Thanksgiving! Dig 30 D of D.
I would say listen to some of the musical cues like when the vocals come in or check the specific parts each band member might be playing. Maybe vocal phrasing and composition of the band would help you bracket off some dates which to check, too. Good luck! :-)
In addition to Dave's hint (read it literally) and what others have said about the band members (esp. keyboards), listen closely to the acoustic at the beginning of this - big clue to me about what kind of venue/audience. Hope that helps!
Also, a show that I had not previously listened to (that I can recall) but with some interesting variations (like on a song already heard - keyboards rule!) and flashbacks. Enjoy, thank you Dave, and Happy Thanksgiving!
If you've cornered the era, then you should only have a fewerish # of years to go thru. That clean sound(as some have already mentioned), should furthur help you narrow down the candidate pool. Also, it will help if you can determine if the Horns be there or not. And finally, whatever happens, have FUN!
Was distracted by cooking and all the socially distant festivities and only had so much time to devote to the search. Initially went in the wrong direction, but eventually found my way. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
BTW and I dodged one another for 5 years, slipping and sliding, like ships passing in the night, and I finally got my one and only live taste, at what would be the penultimate live version, and my last show with the venerable fat man. Say what you will about how the performances, and the audiences, and the scene in general, had become less than ideal by the end, falling into disarray, but once you got on the bus, and then "really" got on the bus, they became family, in our dreams, and our adventures, and so, we too, have become family. I am grateful for family.
and beautifully put by LeeBob. I'll have seconds of that, AND dessert! So grateful for my Dead family. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! And here's to hoping for a summer tour sometime REAL SOON!
thx...trying to sneak in listens with Turkey Day football, cooking, family, finally was able to sit down and give a proper listen. Yeah!
The thing that makes this contest fun, and possible, is that each version of a song has subtle differences. You won't find two identical versions of any song. Even the way they start a song. Sometimes it's all together on a count. at other times they stumble in like Bob first then Phil comes under, hi-hat, Jerry licks, etc. That's usually enough to identify a version. In this version of BTW they all start together. That doesn't happen everytime. Also, after Weir sings "Bringing me down," someone yells "Yeah!" That "Yeah" is also audible on the sdbds in the Archive. I'm willing to wager that's the only version of BTW that has that "Yeah" in it. Happy Thanksgiving!!
for access to the source of many hours of enjoyment with the music WE all LOVE...today we should ALL give thanks and a donation to The Internet Archives...it would be a SAD day if a site we've come to rely on closed down for lack of support...Hope you all had a SAFE and Happy Thanksgiving
great hint .. thx
so eloquently put, my brother...
& to that if i may add...
sometimes it's just 1 line in a tune that stands out due to a slight variation in the lyrics...
such as, during the 3rd verse in today's version, he uniquely sings:
"teach them to look, as well as to see..."
the BT Wind chronologically after this one, he sings:
"we will help them to look, as well as to see..." (& yes, this one has been officially released...)
whereas the next version after that one chronologically, he totally mumbles the beginning of that particular lyric altogether...
about 7/3/94 if u listen to the Box of Rain that follows that epic Eyes>Fire u can hear Phil give a lil extra on the "Look into any EYES, YOU'LL FIND FIRE!" line, which then is followed by him mumbling the line right after, as if he was over-concentrating gettin' that "eyes/fire" line out!! ♤
ps... fwiw, guessed 3/9/82 Club Front, San Rafael for that studio Crazy Fingers... like many of y'all, almost entered the 4/9/82 soundcheck too...
