i love that 30 Days gets me to really study songs in detail, and get all the little things that make this music we love be real life and imperfect and fresh.
also gotta love that pedal steel !
dave shines the light on another killer show. and chicken dinners for everyone. its a win-win.
kind of fortunate on the easy ones since i haven't had as much time to play this year anyway
high time indeed
and by the way, the names hornsby, don't call me Lois
the link for 30 days has been replaced with black friday and christmas shipping info. thanks for your post wouldn't be able to get the song otherwise.
"Public Auditorium is located at 500 Lakeside Ave., Cleveland, and is made up of three venues -- the 10,000-seat Public Hall, the 3,000-seat Music Hall and the 600-seat Little Theatre. Public Hall and Music Hall share a stage, separated by a barrier."
Interesting fact. So the Auditorium is the venue, the Dead were booked to play the Public Hall inside the Public Auditorium, I guess that's digging a bit deeper than just Cleveland Public Hall. Good to know.
It’s the same building. The guys at Deadbase should’ve just chosen one and stuck with it. Although that wouldn’t help much here, as it seems Dave tries to disagree with Deadbase as often as possible.
Can someone post a link on here, so I can enter in today's song? They removed it from the main page. Thanks in advance!
Another rare treat in the setlist from today's show. Check out Ol' Slewfoot, only played eight times.
Here is what an article notes about them covering old cowboy songs: "Unlike the majority of tunes on this list, which land on the slow ballad side of things, “Ole Slewfoot” is a bluegrass-inspired foot-stomper. The song was originally penned Howard Hausey and Eddie Manney and first released as a popular hit single by rockabilly singer Johnny Horton in 1961. The Dead turned “Ole Slewfoot” into more of a psychedelic country-rock tune, connecting the dots between them and the New Riders Of The Purple Sage, with whom Garcia was also playing with at the time."

When I realized the date, I remembered the dilemma we all had on the Sugaree in 2013. I remembered I picked the wrong one, but I couldn't remember which, and my notes (yes, I save all my research notes-- they come in handy when Dave repeats a song) did not indicate one or the other. But if you google 30 Days from years past there are plenty of sites that list the dates and the venues. I found at least 5 that all said "auditorium," so I went with it. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
As a reminder for friends old and new, I've constructed an Excel Spreadsheet that has all of the past/present 30 Days. If you would like a copy now, just shoot me a private message with your email address and I'll get it over to you. Or if you'd like to have all of this years included, just wait until post 11/30. It's a pretty handy tool for searching and also just reliving past 30 days.
Anyone notice that this year will include David's 300th selection!!
All fields are filter-able and there's "hot buttons" to automatically organize by venue, year played, 30 days year, or song. All in all, it's pretty good for my excel knowledge.
Sorry, should have been a PM.
sent from my hotmail.com account, enjoy!
You didn't mean goodbye, you meant please don't let me go...
Interesting selection. I love High Time....so heartfelt....and the slide/steel guitar (oh man!)...glad to have it twice this year....thanks Dave!
The wiki page says AKA PUBLIC HALL. I went with the name that DEAD.NET says, now they say it's the other name. also found a poster that said it was PUBLIC HALL for yesterday's show. of course they pick the other name. DOH!!! https://www.dead.net/show/august-26-1980 https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&biw=1366&bih=654&tbm…
best version of today's selection that I could find is in an old taper's section - entire concert, the archives versions are not as crisp - thanks Dave!
They're nice when you're short on time, but I do enjoy the search as well. Maybe a happy medium between one possible show and 100 possible shows.
everyone here has a 33 1/3% chance of guessing the right date/venue for today's selection. As well as a 100% chance at free music. And 100% chance of being eligible for a Grateful Dead wall calendar and/or Giants Stadium box set.
Talk about your High Times!
True confession: I (like many of us) have notes , files, etc. for all past 30 DoD years. After viewing the 2013 selection for the venue from the spreadsheet Moribundjt (pretty sure it was you thank you) provided me last year, I decided to enter 'Hall', should there be a changeup pitch for the answer this year. BUT suggested to my wife that she enter 'Auditorium' to cover the spread.
Although I've had only about 7 incorrect answers since the first year, never a winner chicken dinner.
But....Lois, my lovely wife (of 36 years) who supports my obsession with all things GD and related, wins with the random draw that continues to elude me. WoooHooo!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving to all of us 'usual suspects' and everyone.
I am sure having a High Time playing these 30 Days
I hope everyone is Living the Good Life tomorrow
I am thankful for The Grateful Dead!!
Maybe get a
Darker before the day
It’s my birthday Dave! Gimme something good to celebrate it with.
