think i got a new bumper sticker idea.
a little dose of Brent. While this tune never really went anywhere for me his voice and playing was candy to the ears. Rock on Truely missed. this a great show too. I'd say more but too many hints if i did. easy enough anyway
This game makes November just disappear. Like the aformentioned, over too dang quick.
3 left, what's they gonna be?

...in part because I was at these shows, I was able to get this one on the 2nd try. What sounded kind of like a Truckin' tease was helpful if you know where to look.

from yesterday's pick.
Barlow's lyrics strike an ominous tone when I hear Brent's crooning here.
We've had a Blow Away and a Far From Me but no The Stranger or Alligator. Not complaining, just reiterating the annual observation.

I was blessed to see this played for the very last time and heard the lyrics
This song is my last song for you
Really do miss that voice and the passion
Great choice today, thanks David!
Can’t believe we only have 3 more Days..

Playin' > China Doll > Jam, with Jam being the operative word. I missed this by 10 days as Jam means no lyrics. DeadbaseX lists the winner as Playin' > China Doll > Playin' which should have the reprise of the lyrics by definition.
I'm sunk if I can't trust my Deadbase.
Oh well, onward and upward shooting in the dark.
Cheers

DEADBASE lists, in the Every Time Played section, PLAYING REPRISE separately from PITB. The reprise list implies lyrics. If a song is split up in a show, it will list it multiple times it that song’s ETP list, with a ZERO (since it was played earlier in the same show) in the column indicating the number of shows since last time played. PLAYING REPRISE, like SUNSHINE DAYDREAM, are special cases. The setlist for that show will also indicate PLAYING REPRISE. Also, REPRISE seems to imply just the end part of the song, not just the fact that they left it and came back- shows where they only play the reprise list it as PLAYING REPRISE. Check out Portland ME 3/31/85 (an effin’ SMOKER!) where they do the reprise, realize they hadn’t done the rest of the song, and start PITB fresh- doesn’t add to the discussion, but what the fuck!

Grate comment about 3-31-85. It might have been my wife and I that were your 'neighbors' at that show! LMAO.

You can pin down the era based on how Brent sung the lead vocal. That zeroed it in. And the little Bob chord stabs in the end dead air...

Yes Deadbase was a nice tool at the time but it is a printed work. So it only has the information thought to be accurate at the date of its issue depending on the volume. But online information can be updated over the years (and it can be updated accurately as well as inaccurately so multiple sites and searches are necessary). Just a good reminder to use multiple methods and references to search for setlists, song titles, information etc.

Took awhile this morning, had some coffee with Brent and went through the years.

Interesting to hear how Brents voice also evolved. I never noted that before, even though it was always distinct. Just finished my coffee and starting to have at i. After a slow start I did get into the swing of things. By the way, I always see the daily winners but is the Grand Prize winner also announced. I didn't see them last year

Another gem .... from a gem of a show, for sure. Don't usually spend much time in this era, but I pulled this one for the rotation immediately. The mixes on various archive sources bring out the goods, esp if you like bass, rhythm and keys. Enjoy, my fellow heads.

I'm on-board with 1stshow070878, even though he has an advantage over me: my only source is DeadBase IX, because I just don't have the time or inclination to spend hours searching, but more power to those that can. Don't give up hope 1stshow, because even with my limited resources and time, I've still been lucky enough to win twice, most recently in 2019.
This is my first, and maybe only time I will give hints. For today's wonderful Far From Me selection, I hope these hints aren't too obvious, so here goes and hope these help........this was from a great run of shows, a gem of a tour, the band sounded amazing, Jerry and Bob and Phil are playing guitars, it was played for less than 18 months, and they played other songs during this show. Hope this helps! ;)

I knew "when-ish" the show was just based on the energy and enthusiasm the band had at the time. Plus Brent's voice is a bit raspier....

This one is a tough one. Not any good audible clues to help me pin down a date range. I guess I never paid much detailed attention to this song before. Eeesh!

I listened to over 20 versions before I found it. Glad I picked the right direction to work towards, from my starting point. I'll miss this adventure as November comes to an end!

That's how I thought that worked having seen that there were only 2 true Playin' Jams and 19 Playin' Reprises. I guess what I'm confused about is the difference between the >Jam and the >Playin'. Is the >Jam not recognizable as the same song and wanders off as only a derivative of the orig. song whereas the >Playin' wanders back into a version you can recognize? As you can tell I'm a rooky at this.
Cheers

and far from me were two very recurrent themes in my world today. I went through the entire DeadBase 50 show lists(bout a hundred)before I found the one to hold on to. And I was in attendance at this show. Sheesh, I'm embarrassed but happy to have found it.
