Thanks for all the reports - sounds like the Ottawa show was smokin! Glad you all enjoyed it.And thanks, Playin, for the recap. Most memorable for us as well - hope to do it again! Any of you heading to Niagara Falls or any of the other locations for Rhythm Devils? Sounds like they're in top form as well. What's better than a tight GD offshoot band? TWO tight GD bands!!

Hello and update r.e. ArtPark and AmaZing People
You know this web-site has introduced me to some amazing people - thanks to the powers that be! Yesterday, I finally came part way down from the high of the show and the entire experience. I have been smiling extra wide for about a week now (passing good vibes onto all coming my way). What a great uplifting and sustained high! I look forward to more jamming with the ArtPark crew in the future. Sadly, my wish to have the ArtPark crew to the cottage/beach I spoke of cannot happen as I'd hoped (the cottage is going to crowded with family over that weekend :( ). Perhaps another opportunity will present itself later. This was a special show for me for many reasons. One being that I brought my son with me (he turned nine on July 13th). This was our first Dad & Son camping experience and his first Rock & Roll show. He had a blast dancing and running around the grass and up and down stairs at the show. The people at the show, as always, were great as were the crew we had around the campfire and in the park. They helped make it what I believe will be a tresured memory for him (will be for me). Oh yah the concert was great too. Show highlights for me were Big River, They Love Each Other, Dark Star and Dear Prudence. (The show while great was only part of the fun, thanks to K and the rest of the assorted and wonderful lunatics) I really enjoyed the night before jamming with K and B (B not C - Sorry B, I`ve got is straight now :) ) and the day after the show jam under the picnic area. At the picnic area we pooled camping resources and made pancakes (with homemade maple syrup - mmmm) and coffee. I think we had 4 acoustic guitars, one acoustic bass :), a drum and some shakers and many voices and spuratic dancing in the rain and trips to the playground (my son and I)). While that whole breakfast jam was great, one highlight was the remarkable harmonizing of the Beatles `Rain`as the rain poured down on all sides of the shelter and we looked out over the grass and the Lake (Awesome - transporting). And oh yah, the pre show jamming, that K referenced, was really great too! Zook was very cool, something about the look in his eye (some sort of prophet I think, or at least turned on to something amazing!) T, my son C thought you were amazing (Where has T*"*" gone he kept asking as you flew off on some adventure) and is looking forward to meeting your daughter. Special hello`s to the Queen of Spain, and the other lovely ladies who graced our presence, and to J (another far out dude), D (Jam on), and all the rest of the crew (you know who you are). K, I think our voices sound great together. We had some great harmonies happening! :) Thanks to all, especially for being so great with my son!!!! Peace, Love and the good things!! Playin` (in the ArtPark crew band) P.S. Looking forward to another gathering down the road.......... Chris, any progress on a gathering at your place? FOUND: Sorry D, I did and do have that shaker you were looking for. If you send me an address (via personal message) I will ship it out to you. LOST: A pair of sun glasses (they say Disney World on one of the lenses). LOST II: A few more brain cells (...it turns out you don`t need them anyway.....)

Great reviews, Canuck & Richard. Merci beaucoup!! ArtPark was also an amazing show. I was wondering if they were going to run out of new ideas being the 11th show of the tour, but the repeats were great and they still had some surprises up their sleeves! We camped the night before at Four Mile Creek with Playin and his super cool kid, then brought the jams to ArtPark before the show. We had so many people stop by to say hi cuz they saw our flag... Guelph, Hamilton, Ottawa, Peterborough, London, Toronto, represented! Great jamming with Jordan, Zook and Brooke on banjo - some beautiful acoustic moments to warm up the lot. Swimming in the Niagara River, meeting new folks, singing in multi-part harmony... but wait, there's a show??? Furthur, you guys are fantastic. Thanks for bringing the tight jams, like King Solomon, and sending me to heaven with Crazy Fingers. I was Sittin on Top of the World up on the lawn with all you beautiful dancing heads, overlooking the gorge at sunset. They Love Each Other, Hard To Handle, Dear Prudence, and Mason's! You must have known I was there =). You guys just get better with age. And to all who jammed and camped out, thanks for making the SOntario CanHead convention 2010 a huge success! Hope to see some more of you in Niagara Falls, NY for the Rhythm Devils, Sept 10... (~);)

What a grate night! The so-hot weather didn't stop everybody to dance their soul out. I was so happy to be there with all the family. My twin daugthers will remember this show forever. They sang and dance all the way. I'm proud we made it all together. They started late and I was worried of the 11 hres curfew. and what they did? One super long set with (almost) no break. Bob and Phil leaded the band in a night of what sound to me a gratest hits show. A la GOGD manner. Hope the problems they had at the border won't stop them to come back around. Next time Montréal? Enjoy the show on archive.org, Take care, Richard.

Wow.....what a show they had last night the guys are playin' some amazing music. One long set right through till the end in 95 degree heat and crazy humidity. Nothin' can stop these guys from delivering the music that drives the bus......Wow. When they came to the first notes of Bertha it was pure delight that washed over the crowd then followed by a long jammin' Truckin'. When Wharf Rat started we knew we were in for a treat as John played his heart out and the emotions that waved through the crowd was truly movin' then a playful I Fought The Law to snap us back. I'm sure it was really unusal for them to be playin' away from the usual community that they see in front every night, I'm not sure how many made the trek across the border but i'd say only a hand full. I bet that the guys could tell this was going to be a one time thing where they would stray off the beaten path and it came across in the music. What actually made the show for me was the fact that they came to me....being a Canadian it is standard to go seek the band where ever they go now they were coming to my HOME......A grate night of music, freinds and trips.......makes me want sell the house and buy a bus. Hi all I'm still here and still listening and playing. Well: Just enjoyed a great March Break. We went to the beach for a day, played laser tag with my kids and nephews (My name was "Dark Star") it was great fun, enjoyed a couple of beers in the sun on the front lawn listening to music with my wife and her sister in the sun while the kids biked, scooted, jumped and played (it felt like summer vacation). Saw Alice and Wonderland iwith my kids in 3-D yesterday. Enjoyed Tim Burton's adaption...Great morals and messages (a lot of archetypal things were happening...atleast in my mind) throughout including something repeated through the film.....It's O.K. to be partly mad most of the best people are.....Another good one on imagination..... I often have 6 outrageous ideas before breakfast (or something oalong that line).......Anyway, I think I related to the Mad Hatter best. After we left the theatre (beautiful and sunny outside) my daughter stopped in a parking spot and got into an invisible car. I apon grasping the situation got into the drivers seat and we drove off......anyway heres to imagination in action! Watched the first 3 Star Wars movies with the family. Read a good an interested book I have long wanted to read. Farenheit 451. I visited with my sister one afternoon last week (alone...a nice and rare occurrence-normally with kids in tow). Went to T.O. with a friend to meet another there....went out for all you can eat sushi and a few beers....fun...enjoyed a pipe and a fun and wonderfully strange movie "Bubba Hotep". Played more guitar, learned a couple more dead songs - Deal and Bird Song. Oh yah Dark Star too! Just stumbled upon that one in a jam. Anyway. It was hard for us all to get back at it this morning – I’m pacing myself today....think I’ll have more coffee shortly. All your concert outings sound great. Yes I am hopeful to get out to see a further show this summer. Also I have been enjoying the podcast "Dead air with Uncle John". On one show they opened with an awesome "Samson and Delilah". I was having one of those transporting feelings and was very pleased and surprised to hear it was actually Further and not a GD recording. Keep enjoying life, Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat

Hi all, Well I'm going to ArtPark (Lewiston/Buffalo) July 8th!!!!!!!!! Hooray!!! Lawn tickets were all that were left at this time. Wish I had had of gotten around to this sooner. :( Oh well, the freedom of movement with no seats should be fun and the clips of shows I have been hearing are promising of elation to come. Does anyone know about camping in the area? Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat

Hey there, thanks for the updates, Playin! I am super excited to hear that you're coming to ArtPark - I will find a way to meet you there. Guess what? Don't be bummed about your seats - the whole thing is general admission - at least that's how it seemed even on the first day of ticket sales. I think we will enjoy milling about freely in a beautiful venue. Camping - I originally thought it would be easy to go back across the border to stay in Ontario, but it might be fun to find a campground so we can stay and keep the party rolling. Looks like Four Mile Creek is the closest State Park, and there's a KOA Niagara. This is shaping up to be a mighty good time. Yay!!!!

Hi K and all, There are lots of campsites (looks like most still available). Hope you others will consider camping at that park too! I have picked a non-electric site. I will have my acoustic bass guitar with me and would love to play with any of you who come by or just hang out around the fire for those without instruments. Oh boy, camping, bonfires, acoustic jamming and experiencing Further and other Deadheads......well if I have to....the sacrifaces we must make.... I am hoping my wonderful wife will be able to join me. Though, she is taking a course this summer (May to July) on teaching kindergarden with the hopes this will give her a leg up on getting a job. Anyway if she can't join us I will still be there perhaps with a cousin or friend in tow. I'm so looking forward to it. When I think of it, it makes me smile. The anticipation is almost alone worth the price. :) Anyway, I hope more of you head to ArtPark. The outdoor venue looks beautiful. Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat

Okay, so I bumped into some buddies in town and they say that they bought seats to ArtPark, so maybe there actually were seats but must have sold out right away. Didn't mean to give you false hope, Playin... I'm keen to mill around the lawn, and supposedly it's a small venue anyway, so the lawn won't be too far from stage view. It's all good as far as I'm concerned! I'll be booking a site at Four Mile Creek this weekend. Looking forward to the jam! K

Hi K, Looking forward to playing with you too! I had a great jam yesterday afternoon in the sun at my house as my kids and some of their friends ran around the yard and house. Some days it just flows.....yesterday was one of those.....it just flowed with no effort at all. Deal, Goin' DTR, BIODTL, FriendOTD, Fire on the M, Bird Song, SugarM, Dark Star, Ripple, Box of Rain. I keep getting more excited about the show too. Listened to a Shakedown Street podcast and they played some recent FURTHER. The China Doll was so soulful....nice! Enjoy your long weekend.....our weather looks amazing!!!!!!!!!! Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat

Haven't heard of them or the venue before - hope it's fun! My buddies play in a GDead cover band in Toronto - Caution Jam. http://www.cautionjam.ca Looks like their next show is on the 24th @ Grossman's, TO. Their Penetang boat cruise is, supposedly a blast. I, too, was jamming Sunday night, impromptu at my place. My neighbour Joe brought together a jam so fast that I didn't know if I was going or coming =) Bass, guitars, piano & drums, we pulled off some nice Scarlet>Fire, Playin, Sugaree, among others. I used to be in a group called Zen Again, and later a one-off as the Dreadful Great. I'm threatening to pull together another GDead project, but I'll probably just keep jamming with my various dead-crazy friends. Campsite's right next to yours, Playin', on the night before and night of the show. Looks like fun! K

Hi Neighbour, About the camp site - great! Your jam sounds awesome - I would have loved to plug in too!!! It reminds me I really must find other Dead fans in town to Jam with. Another fun to-do! I'm playing around with Dear Mr. Fantasy and Estimated Prophet at the moment. This morning thought perhaps a little KINKS might be nice too. "You really got me" or "All day and all of the night" for a little rockin' addition to my repertoire...perhaps.... Have a good one, Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat

I posted this elsewhere but wanted to share with our thread too:For all you heads in the academy, and for those of us struggling to follow along, I wanted to share my excitement at a new publication: The Grateful Dead in Concert: Essays on Live Improvisation Jim Tuedio, Stan Spector, eds http://www.mcfarlandpub.com/book-2.php?id=978-0-7864-4357-4 My partner, Brent Wood, contributed an essay entitled "The Eccentric Revolutions of Phil Lesh". It is a great piece of work and feels good to see it in print after hours of conversation, listening and writing. He's already published an essay on Robert Hunter's poetry and psychedelic experience and is currently tackling the subject of Jerry & tragedy. These pieces will hopefully appear as a whole book in future. This book is carefully put together with foreword by Stanley Krippner and contributions by Meriwether, Spector, and the usual suspects as well as others. Great writing, nice organization (tuning, first, 2nd, 3rd sets, encore...) and good ideas. Reads like a show. Enjoy!

Ottawa has a fantastic festival each year and this year can only be magical with the Furthur show coming. Unfortunately there is no parking lot at this venue or even one close by, parking would be in a downtown lot then a long walk to the site. The transit system (bus) is the easiest way to get there.Check out bluesfest.ca for all the info. I have volunteered the last 5 years at this festival and it out does it self each year, I live in Ottawa and any info you need let me know.

It's pretty stacked. Rush and Iron Maiden, indeed. It's gonna be hard to try to travel from Ottawa to Buffalo in one day, though (7h plus border crossing)... I think we'll stick with our original plan of camping the night before the ArtPark show to make the day nice 'n easy. Too bad we gotta choose! And too bad Ottawa was a late addition. That's okay, GCanuck, Richard, Chris, and maybe even Poncho will represent us deadnet canheads... Tes ados vont finalement apprécier notre groupe renommé de proche. Wow, SF et Ottawa Furthur de suite... c'est un beau cadeau de printemps!

Hey folks just found this thread and its so cool. Been a dead head for more years than I've not been one. I live in Montreal and have never been to the Ottawa bluesfest. There has not been a dead related(bobby phil jerry) show in MTL since 1967! I'm going to Shelburne Vermont on July 5th(my birthday). This is so cool to be able to see two shows in a row. The last time I saw both Phil and Bobby was 2004!! Downloaded Chicago and Colorodo shows from the last tour. They sound amazing and John's guitar work is the closest to The Gratefuld Dead sound since 95. Can't wait and I hope to meet some of you there. It will be Amazing!!

Summer's here! I can't wait to meet some of you at Rochester coming up real soon (Chris H? anyone else?). We'll be travelling by boat from Port Credit to Rochester in a perfect plan to avoid the G20 in Toronto. I'm foregoing Ottawa Bluesfest, but several of you will be there... uncjhn, richard, grateful prof? Please report back! Next is Artpark. Playin will be there with company, and my high school buddies from TO as well as Peterborough peeps and I will all be camping in adjoining sites for a beautiful day and night of jamming and, oh yeah, Furthur! Finally, I would like to take you up on your offer, Chris, of a locale for the CanHead jam 2010, SOntario chapter. Sometime in late July perhaps? What say you? Let's talk dates.

I'm bummed. REALLY bummed. I won't totally get into it but because of work, travel time, babysitters and funds, I'm afraid there ain't no luck. I've had no love since 93. No Ratdog, no Phil, nothing at all. To have Further play in our backyard is a joyous event. And to not be able to go, well.....not so joyous. I guess I'll keep hope for more dates. I really hope the weather is grate for all who are going. I know the music will be.

Hey PonchoBill, I feel your pain. Sorry you can't make it to any of the shows. Happily I am going to ArtPark (July 8 - Lewiston NY). By the Grace of the kindness of strangers I have been offered an opportunity to go to Rochester NY (this Friday). Don't think I can make it though and it bums me out too. My advise is do what you can to make it to atleast one of the shows. The quality of the music the members of Further are playing is staggering (I can't wait to experience it LIVE). As you put it "a joyous event", and who doesn't need that? Keep joyous, Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat

Well, our Rochester venture was a success by all accounts... Great to jump into a van with 6 people some of whom I've known since high school, others I just met. I love what happens when we can trust that it will lead to something good. And boy did it ever! It was awesome to meet you, Chris. You do know your way around the lot, and several of the characters in it! Thanks for goin on a feeling, and for making me the poster girl for the CanHead Forum! =) Furthur is sounding REALLY good right now. All I can say is: try to get out to one of these shows if you're in the east. They've hit their stride and are a tight rhythm unit. All the little twists and turns and intricacies were masterfully rendered, everyone in the band is sounding sharp. John, you're amazing. And Phil, well... you're not my hero for nuthin. Right back atcha, Bill. How's beautiful Sudbury? Any warmer than here in Peterborough? It's a little chilly today, but looking like good weather for picnics, fireworks and my buddies, the Weber Brothers will be playing at our concert bandshell tonight. Yay for holidays! gr8tfulal: We CanHeads will be at ArtPark in droves. If you get to the concert site early, look for a Canadian flag and jamming, probably by a picnic shelter. A bunch of us are camping at Four Mile Creek State Park the night before and night of the show. If you need a place to stay, there are still many good spots, some adjacent to ours... whaddya say? If you're interested I can send you a pm. Cheers, K
