What a year! I was born 06/16/1972, I always thought it was a special year, and this vibe is seen in how the Grateful Dead is playing all year.

    Pretty slick
in '89; prefer the coarser, in-the-moment sounds from '69-'72.

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we roll into August (and Jerry’s birthday!) with music from 1969, 1972 and 1989.

Our first selection this week is from 12/31/69 in Boston, at the only Grateful Dead New Year’s show outside of California. From this cool end of the 60s show, we have Intro; China Cat Sunflower> I Know You Rider ; Mama Tried; Next Time You See Me; Cold Rain And Snow ; Black Peter.

Next up is the first show of a great year, 1972, on 1/2/72 at Winterland in San Francisco, featuring the start of the show Truckin'; Sugaree; Mr. Charlie; Beat It On Down The Line, Loser ; Jack Straw, Chinatown Shuffle; Tennessee Jed ; El Paso.

Next is the first set from the penultimate show of the 1980s, on 12/30/89 in Oakland, CA, featuring Bertha > Good Lovin' > Sugaree ; Walkin' Blues ; Jack-A-Roe ; When I Paint My Masterpiece; West L.A. Fadeaway ; The Music Never Stopped. I was fortunate to attend this run of shows, and it was a huge surprise when they went into Good Lovin’ as the second song of the first set, the first time in many years they’d done this.

Be sure to join us next week for more music from the vault.

Due to circumstances not worth explaining I lost my set of 2011 30 Days Of The Dead discs. Can any one help me with that? I'll gladly provide 10 blank CDs (5 extra to compensate you for your time and effort) and of course will pay postage. If you can help me, contact me at malaric59@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance.
