Week of December 23-29, 2019
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we roll toward the end of the decade with Grateful Dead music from three distinct eras, 1969, 1978, and 1983.
Our first selection this week is from 8/30/69 at the Family Dog in San Francisco, where we have this classic 1969 sequence, with a twist at the end when they veer into distinctly 1970-style Dead: Dark Star> St. Stephen> The Eleven> Drums> High Time.
Next up is the start of the second set from 9/2/78 at Giants Stadium with what is often called one of the best renditions of Scarlet Begonias>Fire On The Mountain of 1978, and some even put it up as a contender for best ever.
Lastly this week is the start of the three night run at Silva Hall at the Hult Center in Eugene, OR, on 8/29/83, where we have Shakedown Street; New Minglewood Blues ; Friend Of The Devil; Hell In A Bucket.
Be sure to join us next week as we head into 2020 with more music from the vault.
