Week of January 11-17, 2021
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we’ll check out some Grateful Dead music spanning the 1980s, from 1981, 1984, and 1989.
Our first selection is first set music from 7/8/81 in St. Louis, including a couple of songs from the previous year’s Go To Heaven album: Althea ; Me And My Uncle > Big River ; Don't Ease Me In ; New Minglewood Blues.
Next is the start of the second set from the famous 7/13/84 show at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA, featuring the second and final version of the the Scarlet>Touch>Fire combination. From this show, we have Scarlet Begonias>Touch Of Grey>Fire On The Mountain>Man Smart (Woman Smarter).
Lastly this week is the second set opening sequence from the Dead’s first show at Deer Creek in Noblesville, IN, from 7/15/89, where we have Foolish Heart > Victim Or The Crime> Crazy Fingers > Truckin'> Smokestack Lightnin' > Jam. Although I remember all of the Grateful Dead shows I saw quite clearly, this one in particular stands out in my mind due to its excellent set, setting, and music.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

7.13.84 Scarlet Guitar Solo
The solo in this Scarlet is a high water-mark for the Grateful Dead.
DL: remember all of the Grateful Dead shows I saw quite clearly
Great choices again David.
My memories are more sporadic and anecdotal - must be that memory-inhibiting medication.
