    National Anthem

I had seen Jerry in Ithaca in July, but this was my first Dead show. Hitched up from Ithaca, and wandered through the party scene in the arena pre-show with tie dye and balloons. With the late start (which I'd later learn was typical) the anticipation kept growing, as more and more people filled in from the street and the joint was buzzing. But what I remember most vividly was that when the lights finally went out and we were in total blackness, the crowd roared, and all of a sudden two orange spotlights lit up each side of the stage and these flagpoles emerged, two American flags unfurled, and the National Anthem played over the arena PA, just like before a hockey game. The crowd went wild! And then the curtain rose and the Dead launched into Cold Rain and Snow, and I've been on the bus ever since. So glad Dick released this show as a Pick

15 years old, mom dropped my friends and I off and picked up us later. in between something magical happened. i've been a lifelong deadhead and every time I need to get away, Dick's picks 20 goes into the cd player and i'm a kid again. I still feel the magic every time.

A memorable road trip from Middlebury, Vermont with my buddy "Wharf Rat". I thought it was my first show, but I find I have a ticket from the Boston Music Hall from three months earlier - oh well. We started out the night before and had car trouble and almost got arrested for driving (coasting) without any lights in Ithica, NY at 3:00 a.m. I went to look for a garage to help with the car and when I came back the Ithaca police had Wharf Rat up against the car in the spread eagle position, but it all worked out!

Three days after my 19th birthday. Consumed far too much wine, but got it together for most of the second set. Didn't know what I missed until the Dick's Pick came out.

I thought I saw my first show at the OWM, Syracuse in 1975, but this site doesn't show a show there in '75 ? any insights ? whatever year it was we roadtripped from Ithaca and came in during Friend - thought it was just the second song - didn't see Wheel again until my 50th show and don't remember it from the 1st ( too drunk & way high ) - the start of the long strange trip - still truckin' - lookin' to catch furthur in feb - wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world
