Was'nt at this show but had tix for 2 nites later in Philly which we drove all they from the Jersey shore in a blistering snow storm. thought we were smart when we dosed a half hr. out of philly ,Not a good move...SHOW CANCELLED in big fucking red letters. Now what is a 17 year old driver to do. Drive all the way back at about 30 mph Only side swiped one Stop sign. The gods we're watching over us as they always did whenever the circus came to town

Would somebody tell me which of the Jan. 1979 shows at the Spectrum or whenever the boys played the make-up show for the cancelled show. Have ticket stub from 11/28 that was honored for the other show, but goodtimes since have left me alittle foggy on the date/venue. It was my first show, so iwould be eternally grateful for info and would trade for acopy of that show. Would even do a two-fer. thanks, Roww Jimmy

I didn't attend this show but listened to the FM radio broadcast the night after being at the Capitol Centre concert on Nov. 23. My brother taped the broadcast & I played it many times until the tape fell apart in the 90s. There were radio interviews with Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart & engineer Bob Mathews, who talked about their sonic experiments in the King's Chamber of the Great Pyramid in Egypt. Jay

No, didn't attend this one but rather the cancelled New Haven 11.25.78 due to Jerry's laryngitis ... that sucked ....

If you recorded this on FM, you will hear the occasional yelling of the word "LUGNUTS" this was me an the guys doin our thing for posterity.............

I thought it was a pretty mediocre show overall. I got free tickets from WNEW-FM and Jerry was having a tough time that night if I recall. That's why the next bunch of shows were cancelled. I know I was supposed to go to one or two of them.

I once saw a show in KC that I thought was a poor performance and lackluster set-list in the early 80s. And then when I heard a tape of it, I got a big grin and enjoyed it quite a bit. I reviewed a video of the 11-24-78 concert and I must say that I enjoyed it immensely. It was a fun show for some surprises in the set-list, a guest percussionist, and this show contains some of the most animated I have seen the boys (..er... and girl) get during a show. Deadbase XI feedback section ranks that show as the 7th best of 1978. The Tapers Compendium recommends "The Entire Show' in it's review, which is not a common recommendation (for the reviews in the book) in '78 or any year. The Compendium will usually target specific songs in a set or show for their recommendation. Without a doubt we were spoiled in the 70's with Jerry being consistently in such 'good voice' and his vocal difficulties are listed as are one of the reasons some Heads disliked this show. His vocals that night were better than many shows in the late '80s and most in the 90's. So I guess it is all on a sliding scale. Garcia did have some flubs, but I wouldn't say that those overall made this a mediocre show (for me, on video). Actually his guitar-work was some of his best of that year! I may be full or beans (or some other brown material, but check this show out). Just my humble opinion. The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

You had to be in the Dead's Fan Club to get tickets for this show which were fancy heavey Gold Colored tickets

Deceive Inveigle Obfuscate....Now, if I have my memory cap on correct, this show was for Deadheads only! If you were a member of the Deadheads fan club you had to send in for a chance to win tickets, which my future wife, & myself did. Orchestra seats! F'ing incredible. Funny thing, we were hangin in the outside area by the food & beverage stands, there were cops standing right outside the front glass doors, and we were partying inside, which is legal at all Dead shows, and we were blowing the smoke through the crack between the doors, out at the cops standing outside. The funny thing, the cop(he was on the young side) didn't move, even as we kept blowing the smoke at him, I still say, he was catching a free buzz, cause he didn't move! Funny as sh*t. Anyway, the concert was incredible, but, one thing troubles me, after one of the Dead's breaks, they came back, the place was quiet, when I strarted yelling Franklin's Tower, very loud, and kept it up for a few minutes. Then, the Dead, walked off stage for a couple of minutes, came back out, and went right into Franklin's Tower, and some guy close to me, yelled, Hey man, you got your wish dude! Now, till this day, we remember me doing this, and the guy yelling at us, but, it doesn't show up on the credits for this concert. And, the same thing, WNEW broadcasted it live! Strange!!!! I've got a buddy, that has hundreds of Dead shows on tape, and swears he has this exact show, but, we temporarly lost track of each other. I"m a collector of many different kinds of collectibles, and, one of them is I'm trying to get recordings of most of the concerts that I went to when I was younger, not just the Dead though, I've got my Pink Floyd 1977 Animals Madison Square Garden shows, my 1975-77 Led Zeppelin Madison Square Garden shows, ELP at the Madison Square Garden(rare shows, the first couple of that tour included the London Symphany Ochestra and 300 Singers in a choir) Later shows had the Symphany & choir on tape playing behind ELP but those first shows were incredible. Anyway, my treasure of treasures, is the third Grateful Dead show I ever attended, and that was September 3, 1977 Englishtown NJ. 400,000 Deadheads!We made it all the way up front for that show(Have the pictures to prove it). The day opened with the New Riders of the Purple Sage, then the Marshall Tucker Band and finally, over 5 hours of Grateful Dead. Man, the place was crazy that day, electric, but crazy. Over 100*, you had to wade through knee deep mud for water, and the place was encircled with tractor trailors and ontop of the trailors, were the Hells Angels as security. Guys walking around dressed as Mr Natural with a large wooden cross made from driftwood, with the skull of a bull ontop selling Huge hits of Dragonfly blotter acid. Don't ask me what transpired after meeting Mr NaturaI, beause I have no idea, only remember the music. I have that entire show on tape, which is the cherry ontop of the cream pie of concert tapes. But, needless to say, I have to get a copy of this show, it would sure help me out. First, it would be a treasure to me, and I could make a copy of it, and finally be able to give it to my ex-wife, then she has no reason anymore to call me and bust my balls! Deceive Inveigle Obfuscate...The Englishtown show had anywhere from 250,000 to 400,000, somewhere around those numbers.

This was one of those anticipated shows. The gold tickets, the ride to NJ, the small venue. Ah, I remember it well. Thanks to Bill E for sharing his prize with me. rt

I recall it was on WNEW FM and whenever the Dead were on the radio we would gather up our cassette decks and plug into my TAPE OUT/REC connections on my Kenwood KR-4600. Let's see; Pete's TEAC-A400, My TEAC A-380 and Vic's TEAC A-380. Always envied those who had and recorded shows and 1/4 and 1/2 tracj TEAC Reel to Reel's, but they were way too expensive!

And analog delay systems that were over $1000. Then the digital signal processing came along. Remember 1985 and graduate school studying the discrete fourier transform and discrete fourier series. I recal all that math that is commonplace in Adobe Audition and Adobe Soundbooth. Snapshot and I'm off to the frequency domain!

So that's what I heard all these years. Nice to make your acquaintance after all this time. lugnuts...
