Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1977, 1984, and 1986.
Our first selection this week is first set music from the first show of the Spring Tour of 1977, on 4/22/77 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, where we have Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo; Looks Like Rain ; Deal; El Paso; Tennessee Jed; Estimated Prophet ; Peggy-O.
Next is the interesting and unique start of the second set from 4/27/84 in Providence, where we have Playing In The Band> China Doll>High Time> Man Smart (Woman Smarter).
Lastly this week is the entire second set and encore from 4/19/86 in Bekeley at the Community Theatre, where we have Crazy Fingers>Playing In The Band>Drums> Space >The Other One> China Doll> Playing In The Band> Sugar Magnolia, Quinn The Eskimo.

We drove down from Hebron Academy in Maine to see this show on a weekend hall-pass. Our friend Dagny Maidman hooked us up with 2nd row tickets for this show - it was scary being that close. My Buddy Pete Morley got thrown out of the show before it even started for smoking a bowl - he was wearing an uncle sam tophat made of cardboard, and the security guard was apparently unimpressed. This is the High Time where Bobby says "Hittin the high notes" right after Jerry sings "I was having a hard time.."
The post space segment is epic. The China Doll is Power Ballad central!
