After saboteurs saw to the Grateful Dead’s equipment truck earlier in May, the Dead promised they would return to the northern French town of Lille. A week later–with the Bickershaw Festival and two gigs in the Netherlands behind them–they made good on their promise. Though the crowd was mostly made up of local residents who happened to be passing by the Fairgrounds that Saturday afternoon included a number of Dead freaks who’d tried to see them a week earlier at the Rotunda in Faches-Thumesnil, and who were able to document the show, including Philippe Andrieu, who maintains a page with images from the show.
We were delighted to welcome former Radio Luxembourg DJ David “Kid” Jensen. Kid published a memoir last year, For The Record, and lately–in conjunction with Parkinson’s UK–has returned to the airwaves on JazzFM, programming David Jensen’s Jazz.
