Not sure better than Cornell - maybe overly hyped but still a great show - just looks like a perfect example of a performance on that Europe ‘72 tour where they wanted to let It out before they headed back to the states. Just ordered on Amazon as I want that snapshot, and the last show Pig sang at.

Wouldn't let me post a comment on the Europe 72 50th page so I'll post it here. Just received my order today. Was shipped in the cardboard box that they've been using lately. Plastic in the cd case was totally destroyed. Might as well just slap a shipping label on the cd and send it without the box because it offers no protection whatsoever. Should go back to the padded envelopes or the digi paks that don't have any plastic like the Europe 72 box and road trips.

    Shipping delays?

Are there still shipping delays affecting affecting the Lyceum shows products? I ordered the 4CD 5/26 show and came across something today reminding me that I'd done that. Is there an ETA yet for shipping those? .......... ; - )

I remember the original vinyl of Europe '72 was a half-step fast, not sure why. I'm sure the 50th Anniv vinyl is correct.
Luckily I had a pitch control on my old Dual turntable!!!

The vinyl box has all 4 Lyceum shows. According to the video it will be limited and it certainly is pricey.
While it would be nice to get the included book I don’t think I’ll be paying over $500 plus postage and taxes to get it. I have the steamer trunk and from what I heard Dave say on the video they are still using the 2011 remasters. It looks like it will be collectible but that’s not why I buy music.

Nice thing about collecting music is it takes less room than cars and cost less than guns!

Yes, I have the steamer trunk also (so at least I don't have to buy a cd copy to hear)

Honestly I don't know why I buy this shit, it looks great on the shelf, but really? Maybe someday my kid can cash in on a bonanza of riches, maybe it just pisses the wife off. I'm never sure :-)

But the box does look great, right?

Yeah! I wondered what GDRecords would come up with for the 50th anniversary of Europe '72. Having the big CD box with all 22 shows I can't see anything really new except the book (probably) So I hope the book will be for sale separately!
Keep on playing in the band!

It seems that this new version of 5/26/72, on cd is exactly the same as the one in the trunk. I would definitely have gone for this show if it had a stand alone release on vinyl.

I'll spare you my latest rant about the ridiculous price of vinyl these days and just give thank to St. Dilbert that we'll have access to a variety of options, including FLAC copies of the Lyceum set, for the not-cheap-but-not-outrageous of $99.

It musta been something of a noodle scratcher for Dave et al, trying to figure out how to do the 50th Thing for the Europe stuff, considering the Whole Freeking Tour has already been issued. A vinyl set of the Lyceum shows seems a good choice, and I would love love love to get my grubby little mitts on those 24 lps, but I can't justify spending $549, especially since I already have the 5-26 show on Seedy. It'll be interesting to see how quickly that sells, given that a lot of the deadicated already own the suitcase.

Meanwhile, I'll grab me a FLAC copy, which should theoretically sound better than the lp or seedy versions, takes up less shelf space, and has the added virtue of being virtually undetectable to my lovely wife. Thanks to TPTB for figuring out a way to make a suitably Big Deal about the 50th of '72, but offering some excellent options for Heads who have not recently won the lotto, too.

I was hoping for a re-release of the E72 entire tour - in the steamer trunk or AME. Given this release, sounds like that isn't going to happen.

On the plus side, it sounds like it's remastered. Dave bumbles around a bit, but shortly after the 7 minute mark he seems to say these re-released E72 shows are remastered, but not remixed. Given KeithFan's prior comment / analysis about Keith being low to nonexistent in the mix, here's to hoping that'll be amended.

Lastly, if history is any lesson with these 50th anniversary releases I'd wager this 5/26 show on CD will also be sold on Amazon for a few bucks less with free shipping (at least for Prime members). It's not posted there yet (at least where I could readily see it), but this is 1 day of the notice of this, so it may take some time to get it up there.

If they can do this why not re-release the shows from complete FW 1969 box?

Possibly the best version of "Truckin'" as performed live by the band (my opinion as I can't find a live version that is as "on" as this).

I'm glad to see this released separately because there a copies on eBay that I believe have been broken out of the Steamer Trunk set and are selling for hundreds of US$'s.

I'd buy anything from the Europe '72 tour if I could get it a decent prices. Grateful Dead music should be for everyone; not just the rich.

Are the new Europe '72 [2CD] and 5/26/72 Lyceum [4CD] re-releases an upgrade/remaster from the previous 2003 Europe '72 (3CD Expanded) and 2011 Europe '72: The Complete Recordings (73CD box set) versions? Or are they the same?

If you're not into vinyl, I'm not, I just don't see the point. Can the mix be that much better than The Complete Recordings box to buy the CDs or the download? I've happily purchased every release from the Filmore West 1969 box forward, but this one's a head scratcher to me. I have a room full of box sets that I love. This one seems redundant 50th anniversary or not. Sorry!

Disappointed that only the one Lyceum show is available on CD. When the complete boxed set came out it was way beyond my price range so I only got the shows I was at - April 8 and the wonderful May 7. Would have preferred more of the original packaging too. The Ice Cream Kid is up there with skull and roses and dancing bears.

I've bought literally every release since I got into this, but these are redundant. Finally I can pass!

In other news, got my Boulder tix but SO glad to see Bob hint that they might not be done.

Peace.

i'm grateful for the steady stream of new releases every year but this one just doesn't sit right with me. $40 (before tax and shipping) for a show that's already been released and is widely available to stream on spotify and apple music seems nuts to me. the $600 release is also insane. more power to you if you buy these, but i'm sitting this one out.

Since you asked: The two CD Europe '72 set has been "newly mastered by GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer David Glasser with newly restored audio by Plangent Processes" so the sound should be an upgrade. The 5/26/72 show appears to be identical to the original release.

We now returned you to you regularly scheduled madness.

The Amazon UK site listings describe both the 2 and 4 cd sets as 2022 remasters. Of course, that may not be accurate.

to all who missed out on the original E72 release, sorry. This is just a money grab. Tptb are still smarting from the fact that they could have made a lot more off of the original releases, so they do this? Anybody who wants a burned copy of any of these shows, let me know, I will be glad to supply it, or I will attach a file to an email and send it off, this is just not the way it should be. The Grateful Dead legacy is being turned into the greadful dreadful legacy.

Hey PT Barnum, You're right, 549+ clams is a lot to pony up at one time. Still, there's nothing sinister about the pricing. As several have mentioned, the Lyceum box is less than $25 per LP – about par for the industry. It's just that the closing run of the tour was FOUR shows (there were no 3-show runs and only three 2-nite stands: Wembley, Olympia & Tivoli (sorta) runs). After recent/upcoming RSD releases of one each from Wembley & Olympia, looks like maybe the idea is to kick off the gradual vinylization of the rest of the Europe '72 tour with the 4-night grand finale from the Lyceum. Except for Tivoli, only single shows are left, which should take some of the sting out in the future.

I feel your pain. When the Lyceum announcement popped up last week, I decided not to bite. Then, miraculously, the next day I found out I've got a tax refund coming. Plus, my wife was out of town 🤪. With the stars so aligned, I pulled the trigger on the cool Lyceum Box of LPs with Plangenticized versions of Glasser's original masters of the 16-track analog tapes, book, etc... Like you and many others, I probably should have said "no thanks", but was lucky to have found a way.

How lucky we are to have these bangles dangled before us every now and then. We're fortunate to have this problem. And thanks to you and others, the music is always out there for those who care to poke around.

Did David Lemieux tag this as Pigpen's last appearance? Wasn't that the Hollywood Bowl show in June 1972?

David Lemieux said that 5/26/72 was "the final show at which Pigpen sang." True, he did play in the Hollywood Bowl show on June 17, 1972 but he didn't sing. Just played the organ.

I, like many, already have this show from the box, so I obviously am not excited for this release. That said, the show itself is one of my favorites, and if you don't already have it, I would highly recommend it for your collection.

It is still early in the year, and Dave previously mentioned that this year is packed. I am still holding out hope that this will translate into the re-release of 'Ace', 'Garcia', & 'Rolling Thunder' (all originally released in '72) with added bonus live music. Please don't blame me if I'm being hopelessly optimistic

If it came out on vinyl, as a stand alone release, and you could buy it in England without troubling deadnet, then I would definitely be tempted. Fool that I am - the cd in the trunk has always sounded good enough to me. Quite possibly my favourite show of the year.

If you were in college or elsewhere in the early 70s spinning Europe '72, that means you're in your early/mid 70s now, if you're lucky. For us younger folks, '72 was/is a classic, no doubt. That said, I'm 45, coming up on 46 quick (I feel like the last of the old Dead guard - lol). Anyway, I'm glad this stuff is being preserved, but I hope I don't have to wait until age 70 for preservation of at least the highlights of all the fun I had 90-95 (there was some good stuff there). How about a best of Rosemont Spring '93/'94 as an example, kind of like Without a Net? Sure the band wasn't at their best, but those experiences and memories were just as real and genuine as those from '72. As we all know the Dead were the biggest touring act from about '89-'95. Us graying, balding, Chicago Gen Xers would like tidy memories while we stain the deck or flip burgers while the neighborhood kids jump on the trampoline, lol.

I’m wondering if they’ll have a bOx release this year for those of us who already bought the Europe72 Complete box when it was released.
Maybe ‘69 Boston run up to NYE?? Or Cap Port Chester fall ‘70? 11/5-8.
