Oro - I was on the rail for that one and had a special Jerry moment during Want To Tell > Estimated (I posted about it not long ago.) Those 3 shows at Memorial Stadium were all pretty dang good and Jerry was in good form and spirits. Truly hard to believe how much he had deteriorated less than 2 months later when I saw him at Soldiers Field. There's a circulating soundcheck from 5/24 of them doing Tough Mama. Phil suggests Unbroken Chain next but Jerry counters with Childhoods End. After that, they play Rain. I swear I read they sound checked Whiskey in the Jar before 5/26 but I couldn't find recording or even reference to that earlier this morning.
Pay special attention to the D/S > Wheel 5/25 Night 2 - it was very wild and, as it turns out, that was the final Wheel . . . .
Edit - and the Throwing Stone > NFA that followed was fine by me also lol ; )'

Good shows
5/25 was lysergic; they did TS > NFA. blech. but everything else was good. The Mighty Quinn was encore...yes.
5/26 was indeed remarkable. release-worthy, even.

Yes, I skipped 5/25, only because I’ve already enjoyed it via BCs crack recommendation! (and recent enjoyable first hand report) POTD maybe? Anywho, first night was nice, and Jer sounds pretty dern good here on 5/26 Help/Slip/Franks so far…psyched for rest after BC and PFs 👍

Last night 3/17/25: the Quintet (sorta) can still bring it!
DS 1>>Viola 1>>Doin That Rag…DTR kicked buttowski!
Or howsbout: JAM>>Masons>>SS>>Good Times, Bad Times>>SS>>the 11>>DS 2>>New Speedway.
Yeah, I know it’s not the Dead, but I can’t understand why more folks who dig the primal stuff don’t dig the Phil show? Their loss…
Onward, this house ain’t gonna clean itself lol

5/26 You guys weren’t kidding! Good Sheet Mon!
Onto the 28, (LIG) which is a good show, but maybe not quite the previous equal…?
Looks like a DHB today! Woohoo lol as were deep into 5/29 now!
These shows are good too, maybe just a little less peppy than Seattle?
Pretty good Aud (29) too!

Up and Down - some songs reach/near excellence, and some songs are pretty much lost in 'the haze' - which is indicative of this time period and year ... Fair observation or just one man's biased opinion, you decide:

Evidence Keith starting to use more of that 'ham fisted' approach on the keyboards - versus his lighter touch post-hiatus up to 6.9.77. I do enjoy Jerry's Wolf tone and most of his playing at this stage, but he is straining to sing more and more, and missing his vocal marks more often ...

They are all Way coked up (freebase and/or whatever else), to my ears - such that much semblance of nuance is lost. It's definitely the 'all power' edition - and no doubt, when the juice syncs up (back half of Big River through Let it Grow set ender) it's pretty damn powerful and full of swagger.

In that power GD vein though, I prefer the primal era and the raging elements of '74 that have more psychedelic underpinnings and twists in them.

Anyway ...
Cheers, All

In cast on right arm after reconstructive work, (anthem) sun blazing on the deck, cold brew in hand, needed a little primal CE/TOO, this was perfect.

Yes, indeed, return to golf well in mind for scheduling this, will start to putt and chip again in a few weeks after cast comes off. Just before, went south to play a couple nines with a nephew. Was going to comment on anesthesia and propofol notes on another post stream, but I don't recall anything after they said just a little pinch, after which I was being helped into a car, I want to thank them for not putting on my underwear backwards... good docs and great meds, gel freeze packs and elevation of various sorts and degrees working for me. Not sure about this new box yet, especially looking forward to 54, my first show, had a camera with me.

The plan was 7/19/74 Dave's 17...
But you guys got me listening to 5/26/95. It's GOOD! :)

I'll still be going back to Dave's 17

Through the fog to Shoreline, 6/2/95!
BTKs last? I have him noted for some reason?
Anyway, through the first, another good show!
Sure, usual, small occasional vocal flubs, but Jer sounds fairly energetic, engaged, etc. he’s progressed nicely back to old self (sorta) especially after Atlanta bottom…

DMCVT: they put your under ware back on? Mine was on my head for some reason? Hmmm? Right or left? You can always play with just your right if need be. Hey, desperate times call for desperate measures! Be well amigo!
Where the hell is Jimmy? Still out there somewhere on the lost highway?
All good things in all good time…

Ha, 1sty replacing Vguy with the dad jokes! Hey-Oooo

6/3 good, but didn’t get a very good listen in so…
Jers been good in the first sets, later in the shows, sometimes seems like he gets a bit fatigued, but still reaching for the gold ring!
6/4 just starting…DHB? Should have just enough time?
Completed, all good until Days Between, Ist half good, then?…
Actually, upon Futhur review…Jers starting to drift well before Days…first part of Victim it’s like he’s playing a different song?

Probably should listen to this whole run again? Admittedly, it’s been more wallpaper than critical listening, but I usually can pick up on anomalies, both good and bad. Kinda like when the kids are romping and making a racket the adults don’t really hear it, but if it gets really quiet…that’s when they start worrying lol
Maybe BC will give it a better treatment?
Think I need to move on a bit, like say parts of 78 I’ve not covered yet, THEN!
Then we finally go 85! I’ll finish the final death tour later…

Bird Song from Jersey City on 2023 DaP Bonus Disc. On "work detail" today so only a few quick tunes before heading out. The Boston Music Hall 9/15 (+ DS from 9/16 it sounds like) is gonna be a "reel" treat in the Enjoying the Ride box.
Oro - you got me thinking time to check out those Shoreline '95 shows - remember way way back when GDH episode with 6/2 Space and Gyoto Monks that Bobby bigfoots with Easy Answers but don't know if I've ever listened to much else from that run.
Joey - glad you enjoy 5/26 Memorial Stadium! That was a good run.

... Going with the least heralded '74 show of the three, since I have listened to Portland and Seattle Hec Edmondsen late last year.

The same tendency applies to the '73 selections in this (very fine) box. I have listened to 6.22 Vancouver most often, and 6.24 Portland (w/Dark Star), while not taking in the Seattle show very often.

Maybe that one next, IDK ...

Road Trips Vol. 4 No. 2, April Fools '88...

But now I'm on 7/25/74, it wasn't far from 7/19 :)

and omg the sound of it alone is worth the price of admission, the playing so far is incredible, Phil is everywhere.
Thank you Unc!
I thought I hit this one last year, but I'm pretty sure now that I skipped it.

Currently Rocking the cradle, rearranged in proper sequence now…

3/21/90: fun night, unbelievable Victim, but ya had to be there. The surround effects just don’t happen on the CD. Worked, met up with Harry the Sweaty Drummer, drove over the border and the couple hours there, and back after, worked the next day, then did it all again, oh to be young lol
All kinds of crazy shit, but perhaps craziest, the border incident lol

Thanks for reminding on Colgate, PF.

I'm thinking I'll start with the 11.02 Toronto show parts that are on disc 3 + the rest of it on DP 34 (Rochester) - as it's been quite a while for that one.

... Then Colgate - and leave the 5th and 6th for another time later this spring.

An absolutely stellar Pick!!

Truckin>Phil Solo>The Other One>Stella Blue

This particular segment is a contender for best of 1972, and that's saying something!!!

The Playing In The Band is a Jazz-fueled psychedelic masterpiece

Entire show is flawless

The first set closing Bertha is like a runaway train!

8/25/72: remember being non-plussed?
Think i was crabby because he skipped the Dark Stars, which negatively biased my thought lol Need to revisit it, so many really. We’re always hurrying on to the next thing…come to think of it now, gonna need to hit a bunch of later 72 this summer. But for now, digging this WL run. JG a bit hoarse on the 19, see how he holds up on the 20th?

+ glorious Estimated > St. Stephen, etc. and therefore a contender for best post-hiatus show ever >>>

06.09.77

It is tempting to forget that, in fact, (really, really talented and 'synched up') Humans - including those on the production & sound and recording crew/s - made this music ... It sounds incredible / impossible, from a syncopation, dynamism, and focus standpoint ... But they are
The Greatest
Band
Ever

Music to Fill the Air >> For All Time!

4/1/88 Road Trips Vol. 4 No. 2, this release sounds very good, much better than I remembered, might give it a second run through.

I was under the impression a lot of people thought 8/25/72 was the wrong house... I don't know enough about the run to have an opinion. I'll have to do 9/9 again, I didn't really get it at the time, I moved on pretty quickly.

Man, I think 6/8/77 is one of the best shows of the year... I just like it better, probably the setlist, compared to the 9th

So, 7/25/74 is a really great show up until the Uncle John's Band falls apart, Bob actually says "bad" during the "how does the song go" part :)
They do recover quite nicely though, with an ok jam..

Onward!
The 20th was pretty sweet!
Looking forward to hearing this one complete.

8/25/72: Joey, that was probably me, picky DH lol
Though I think some others felt the same: initial reaction, bummed for no Dark Star, but most of us got over it once we started listening, like that crazy Other One etc…there is a lot of competition within 72, so always lots of speculation there.
Also, I remember some folks were lamenting the fact that the run wasn’t made into a small box, kinda like February 74 etc…since we only get one a year I’m not into the small boxes, so that didn’t bother me personally.
Initially I didn’t want to get into collecting “stuff”. Just wanted shows I was at (which I did pretty well early on, but DaP has given me only the two 87 : (…but then I got way deep into the 72-74 Dark Stars and started getting sucked into the subs so as not to miss out, (after missing out!) but now of course fully immersed chasing the collection, which means getting the occasional mediocre or head scratcher release. I enjoy them all, but some not as much, kinda like 9/9/72. That one seems like wrong house to me, but I’m sure there were other factors involved with that one…but hey I’ll take it all, just wish I’d get some of my shows…

I highly recommend 5/17/81,
and I’d go with an Aud so you can fully appreciate how loud Jerry was!
He was trying out the latest (at tge time) McIntosh Amp: the MC 2500 (prolly since Mac is just down the road in Bingo Town), which used mono is rated very conservatively at 1000 watts, compared to his usual MC 2300 at 600 watts!
I was in the third row and couldn’t hear right for days, including the proffs directions for my final the next day lol
Some of the SBDs you can’t tell so much, but on certain Auds, yowsa!
He’s just ripping!
I think this show is as hot or hotter than anything he’s released from 81 so far!

Made it from the CLE to Bar Harbor. Side trip yesterday to Cooperstown, which was really cool. Did some random picks from PlayDead for the road. They added two more shows from the Sept. '88 run at MSG yesterday, so those are in the queue.
Listened to the 2026 bonus disc earlier, then started Dave's 58. The sound there is superb!
Ouroboros, when I mentioned Jerry sounding rough, I meant that it had that raspiness that has character. The Black Peter from that show really hits home.
Now, time to go get a lobster dinner.
Edit: Walked into the beer and wine shop and Truckin’ came on. Then Houses of the Holy and California Sober. Good omen!
Edit 2: 1/2 dozen Bar Harbor blonde oysters, lobster roll and dirty rice for dinner. Two pints of MBC Lunch to wash it all down. Perfect.
