When the ride begins in '65 at a pizza parlor in the South Bay under another moniker, who would have imagined? When "Who Are You? Where Are You? How Are You?" became "Won't you come with me?" and, ultimately, "Where does the time go?," who would have thought? 60 years on, we're celebrating the Grateful Dead's Diamond Era. Here we go back to the beginning, to the original "Follow," and uncover the wonders of getting on the bus all over again.

ENJOYING THE RIDE is a sweeping 60-CD collection that maps an epic cross-country road trip along the “Heady Highway” with stops at storied venues where the music, the moment, and the magic of the Dead reliably converged. Spanning 25 years of legendary live performances, this expansive compendium spotlights defining shows from 1969 to 1994 at 20 venues that consistently inspired the band to new heights.

With the exception of a few tracks from earlier releases, virtually all of the music on ENJOYING THE RIDE is previously unreleased, with more than 450 tracks and over 60 hours of music. Of the 20 shows in the collection, 17 are presented in full, with some featuring additional material from the same venue. The remaining three — Fillmore West, Fillmore East, and Boston Music Hall — are curated from multiple performances at each venue, capturing key moments on those legendary stages.

These performances were originally recorded by Owsley “Bear” Stanley, Betty Cantor-Jackson, Kidd Candelario, Dan Healy, and John Cutler. David Glasser and Jeffrey Norman restored and mastered the performances, with select ones using Plangent Processes tape restoration and speed correction for optimal sound quality.

It's all housed in a custom keepsake box inspired by the experience of traveling from city to city to see the Dead at legendary venues across America. Inside, a beautifully detailed tour guide features liner notes by Jesse Jarnow (author and co-host of the Good Ol’ Grateful Deadcast) and a producer’s note from Lemieux, an essay by the Owsley Stanley Foundation, and more. The set is richly illustrated with photos, including many taken at the shows featured in the collection.

Due May 30th, this one is limited to 6,000 individually numbered copies and exclusive to Dead.net. We invite you to take this not-so-little piece of the road home.

I was on the job at an all day presentation that I was video taping, running the camera and recording. I learned about it during a break at 11 am. It was hard for me to concentrate the rest of the day. I felt a big hole in my life. Later friends gathered at our house and we all went over to GG park to join the heads gathering together in grief. There was a large circle of heads on the grass, with lots of candles and pictures of Jerry, and people singing along to guys with guitars and drums.

The day the news of Jerry's death broke, I was starting a new job in a new city and pretty overwhelmed by everything that entailed. I was unpacking boxes, meeting new people, shaking lots of hands and nodding vigorously as my new bosses explained my new duties, and I didn't have much time to think about it.

Until later. That evening there was a gathering of people in the park near my new apartment, so I went down there to listen to the songs and read the signs and try to process the whole thing.

    I'm still processing.

I, too, was surprised by huge public outpouring of grief. My primary show-going years were the late '70s and early '80s, a time when the Dead was widely considered a cult band that was barely relevant to the music biz or mainstream culture. By 1995, I had not been to a show in years, and I didn't realize how big the "cult" had become. But the public reaction to Jerry's death--the front page stories, the mass gatherings, the musical tributes--was a lot like when John Lennon was killed. And that was when it first hit me that the Dead's audience was damn near as big as the Beatles.

And I think it's bigger now than it was then.

TTB was great at Red Rocks, btw. I also traveled up to Bend to visit a friend and caught a show (just one of the two) there. It was super cool to see some of the same folks I had met at RR, some of whom were following TTB through several cities on the current tour. Strangers stopping strangers. High fives, hugs, and other things were exchanged. Reminded me of the olden days, it did.

Well, yesterday actually. I can remember that Jerry's death was reported on the national news and was front page news the following day. Apart from my one Deadhead friend, this surprised everyone else I knew. The Dead obviously were nowhere near as well known in the U.K. as The States, and most of my friends assumed they were just a strange acquired taste of mine. An obscure cult band from the 60's with a very limited following. They didn't know anything about you lot.

.....Good Day All...

Thought I would share an interesting story that I had seen last month and it resurfaced again. You can find it on u toob searching for unknown photographer and undeveloped rolls of film and evening news.

Some fantastic images of the late 60's and the happenings around San Francisco. Just beautiful images. Apparently, many rolls of film taken by someone, and no one knows who is the photographer. Film cannisters were found discovered, undeveloped in a warehouse.

The coolest thing for this group might be the images that have been developed with Jerry Garcia. Also some Timothy Leary and some Black Panthers too.

Anyways, thought you all might appreciate it.

....and lastly, trip out......."out for delivery"!!! Today! The 29th! Too Cool!

Hope everyone has a beautiful day.

I have not received any notice from Dead.net, I have a FedEx account and I don't even know where to look.

Where do you guys see that the label was created in your FedEx account?

EDIT: RonMarley - Thank you sir!

EDIT again: Success! the label was just created this morning

Log into the FedEx site. Go to Tracking, then Advanced Shipment Tracking. Should be there under My Shipments.

But nothing but a smile, smile, smile for those of you that are going to have a terrific weekend!

Has anyone here received a shipping confirmation email from dead net store? From what I gather here and on SHF the 60th box is showing up without advanced notice or folks are aware that it has shipped via their personal FedEx account and are able to track it that way. Dead Net Store Customer Service tells me that shipping confirmation emails are being sent out, but so far its not clear to me that those emails are in fact being sent to anyone. This would be problematic given that there is currently no way to check your order status given that the links have been broken in the site migration.

Glad to hear that some folks already have the box in hand. Hoping it continues smoothly for the rest of us despite the opacity of the process.

I received notice from Fed Ex directly because of my account with them, which is technically free but requires a credit card number to sign up.

I have not received any notice from Dead.net and I usually do get notice from them for everything else.

It looks like my box is going to take a while to get to central New York, I'm bummed but I had no expectation of this coming this week.

I think people just preorder one and instantly list it on ebay. I know I checked about 3 weeks ago and someone had one listed for 1200. When he gets his in the mail he will then send to you for a 500 profit. I thought I saw one listed for 1600!

$950.00 plus $36.00 shipping. There's one listed on eBay "played once". I kind of figured eBay would be a good source once TPTB started shipping. Hoping someone lists individual shows soon, give it time. I was expecting an AME announcement alas that appears that it's not going to happen. There's at least 4 already listed on eBay.

950 is not bad, you have to remember ebay takes about 15% of what they call the final value fee, which includes shipping, they're taxing money the seller doesn't even see. They really beat people up, which is part of the reason the prices are high, and of course there is greed too...

YESSSSSSS
PLUS $25.00 shipping. By Sunday there will about 10-12 listed. Some will be used & intact (played once) a few will be just the music the rest will be everything except the music ( box & swag only) and maybe 1 or 2 will have shows listed individually. I put an entire E72 box together that way. I bought a numbered box and all of the swag off eBay and dead.net listed shows individually.

It got here at 1100 just like the text said. It’s a beauty. I like it all I already transferred my keys. I’m an inline type so I’ve listened to the Fillmore next is 1971. I still have my Aiwa 3 head dead ( the Dragon bit the dust years ago). I have to set it up.
I really want to take this opportunity to give a shout out to Rhino/WB and Mark Dave and all the others who made it happen. In the modern world the entertainment industry doesn’t do anything that doesn’t make billions. The fact that WB is down with this ( all the releases) is amazing and appreciated. The money corporate sees on the sheet is a teeny tiny little blip. Thanks for doing it and giving joy to so many people

Mine was delivered yesterday evening, but delivery didn't bother to ring the bell or anything, had no idea it was shipped even, found it on the doorstep this morning. Lucky it wasn't taken. Shipping a hugely expensive item without notification really sucks, they ought to be more organized than that. Can't imagine Fed Ex or Dead.net would take responsibility if it had been taken.

....Yeah, I had a bad feeling once the posts started filing in!
Well. I am glad for all whom had theirs delivered successfully and I empathize with the concern about there being mysteriously no notifications.

(((FYI I did click the link on that Grateful Dead online newsletter about problems, to which it was easy to send a service request. They also answered promptly and gave me the Fed Ex tracking number. So good job with the remedy)))

Though now back to the problem,..... As others had posted here with grate concern maybe a week or so earlier. Where is the explanation to purchasers of how and when the delivery will take place. Especially in lieu of the price tag on this 'Son of a Boxilla' and the on-line after market. Shipping Notices would be considerate at the very least, especially for those who would need to fend off the 'porch pirates' Arrrrgggh!
On one hand I can understand the secrecy, they don't want thieves plotting how to steal Boxes maybe. Though on the other hand it starts to look suspicious that absolutely nothing of any sort of notification went out at all whatsoever. I hope that honestly it was just the damn poor timing of the web store switcheroonie!

I’ve bought everything they have ever sold, from day 1. They have always been haphazard. I did get a text with a time which was accurate to the minute. That said frequently I either did not get one or it arrived after it got here. I always put it down to I always take the cheapest delivery. I don’t think that’s relevant this time. I can understand the concern though I’ve never had a problem I know thieves seem to be multiplying yearly

As I was suggesting a few weeks back, the cassette means that many of us need to go out into the world and share the music on that tape with someone in our community who still has a tape deck. I was explaining my cassette dilemma to a new friend who said, "Well--just bring it over for us to listen to together on MY cassette deck!" Problem solved, community strengthened. And wasn't it tradition for a bunch of Heads to gather around someone's deck when a person in the local Head group received some new tapes in the mail? This is just old-school fun, folks!

CPS27 - Unfortunately the 60 CD box set is sold out as of several weeks ago. There are sets already listed on ebay. Hi-Res download is available and appears to be working smoothly from what I see. Good luck!

FP - I honestly saw no evidence through yesterday that any email shipping notices are being sent out by the dead net store despite that being SOP and also being told that they were by CS. I specifically asked here yesterday whether anyone had received a shipping notice email and no one replied that they had. Same appears to be true over on SHF. Boxes are showing up with no prior notice or folks are learning they've been shipped through the FedEx app. Its messed up. As to overseas shipping, over on the SHF thread for the Box, a member in Portmeirion, North Wales, confirmed that their box is being shipped via DHL. I'm guessing they found out through a notification from the DHL app just like folks have found out their box has shipped through the FedEx app. And as RyXs mentioned earlier, there is a link near the bottom of the 60th box release email that was sent out yesterday where you can submit a request to CS for Order Status, tracking #, etc., and he said he got an answer quick. I sent one this morning. Hopefully I get an answer soon even though its the weekend.

Also for folks like myself where it is being delivered to a local Post Office box, a SHF member from Des Moines area mentioned receiving his in the mail yesterday. He did not indicate how it was shipped.

Hoping everyone has a fun weekend. Based on temps, summer is definitely here in the greater southwest.

Found on porch at 10 this morning. No notice ever came, fine with me.

Got my buddy bringing over his hand truck so we can get this beast inside!!

Still opening, looking good, the rip is yet to come.

added - I have a decent copy of the cassette show, I'd like to have an "Official" copy,,, we can see if there is a difference.

LPs have not landed yet,,,,anyone else get vinyl in?

I received the box at 10am local time time. It arrived arrived 78 hours after shipping. Best shipping of product ever. Assuming that Fedex, due to tariff issues, is hungry for business right now. Our win!

Had another bout with serious health issues but bounced back pretty well for an old coot.

Will explain more soon. Had trouble getting back to this board. May be a browser issue.

No such luck, despite customer support saying there would be one. I’ve used the contact button on the recent email to see if they can give me shipping information. Otherwise, I expect the first I’ll know about it is when a letter arrives asking me to pay VAT on the box. At least the delivery appears to be rapid in the US. Let’s hope they repair the website so we can login to our store accounts.

I was looking at the new JGB box but I’ll wait and see if it can be ordered inside the UK since the postage charges are extreme, over $17 for the 2 - 3 week delivery or more than $110 for express. There will also be VAT added to this order including postage.
