When the ride begins in '65 at a pizza parlor in the South Bay under another moniker, who would have imagined? When "Who Are You? Where Are You? How Are You?" became "Won't you come with me?" and, ultimately, "Where does the time go?," who would have thought? 60 years on, we're celebrating the Grateful Dead's Diamond Era. Here we go back to the beginning, to the original "Follow," and uncover the wonders of getting on the bus all over again.

ENJOYING THE RIDE is a sweeping 60-CD collection that maps an epic cross-country road trip along the “Heady Highway” with stops at storied venues where the music, the moment, and the magic of the Dead reliably converged. Spanning 25 years of legendary live performances, this expansive compendium spotlights defining shows from 1969 to 1994 at 20 venues that consistently inspired the band to new heights.

With the exception of a few tracks from earlier releases, virtually all of the music on ENJOYING THE RIDE is previously unreleased, with more than 450 tracks and over 60 hours of music. Of the 20 shows in the collection, 17 are presented in full, with some featuring additional material from the same venue. The remaining three — Fillmore West, Fillmore East, and Boston Music Hall — are curated from multiple performances at each venue, capturing key moments on those legendary stages.

These performances were originally recorded by Owsley “Bear” Stanley, Betty Cantor-Jackson, Kidd Candelario, Dan Healy, and John Cutler. David Glasser and Jeffrey Norman restored and mastered the performances, with select ones using Plangent Processes tape restoration and speed correction for optimal sound quality.

It's all housed in a custom keepsake box inspired by the experience of traveling from city to city to see the Dead at legendary venues across America. Inside, a beautifully detailed tour guide features liner notes by Jesse Jarnow (author and co-host of the Good Ol’ Grateful Deadcast) and a producer’s note from Lemieux, an essay by the Owsley Stanley Foundation, and more. The set is richly illustrated with photos, including many taken at the shows featured in the collection.

Due May 30th, this one is limited to 6,000 individually numbered copies and exclusive to Dead.net. We invite you to take this not-so-little piece of the road home.

I have also received a shipping notice with a DHL tracking number. That currently indicates that DHL have been electronically notified of it's existence.

Due to the continuing absence of a link to a comments forum on the Dave's Picks 55 product page, I have been obliged to post here. Naturally, this is off topic on the box set forum.

The CC > Takes a Train is what popped to mind when I saw this one was included. Is absolutely perfect.

But after throwing it in last month for the first time in years, the closing of Picasso really caught me. A little fresh reworking. Sounds like it was a Hornsby thing.

The RT vinyl boxes are now in the normal marketplace on Amazon.com and ship to the UK. Also on Amazon Germany last night

Hell yeah Billy, more 82 or should I say some 82 would be more than welcome.

Love Dick's #32, RT4.4 and the 82 MSG shows. Oh and Manor Downs.

Would be fun to see some CA 82 released.

Can I start the rumour that Rhino/Warners failed to include any shows containing ‘Standing on the moon’ in the boxset because they are having to edit them all to say ‘Gulf of America’ and that is a slow process.

As SIMONROB said, off topic, but if I look at my tracking number for DaP #55 today I get an ‘Oops, something went wrong’ message from DHL rather than them saying they have been informed electronically. Isn’t life fun.

Edit: When we get some new music to order will we all have to do it as guests. Is anyone currently able to access their store account? The latest site update doesn’t seem to allow it.

Stop it!

For the great enemy of truth is very often not the lie--deliberate, contrived and dishonest--but the myth--persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Too often we hold fast to the cliches of our forebears. We subject all facts to a prefabricated set of interpretations. We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.

Hey MaryE,

Us natives around here are getting restless. Some are thinking this is the end of "Comments" as we have come to know it. Some are hoping it's just a temporary oversight while website upgrades are implemented. Some think it's an indication of a streamlining of the money grab. In spite of it all there's still a lot of good will around here that probably shouldn't be wasted.

MaryE: Can you shed any LIGHT? Onward.

I think that’s gone away. And as far as being able to log in to the store to see past orders, I think that’s gone too. Not sure if it was here or in the Hoffman forums where someone mentioned they asked amins. about that and they got a reply that logging in to the store would not be coming back.
I’ll miss the new forum that would be posted for a new release. It seemed to reinvigorate discussions. I also liked the, “Shipping noticed received!” posts, along with the, “#2685 in the house!” ones.
Oh well…

Edit: I wonder if the folks buying the ala cart of Dave’s (or anything else for that matter), will get a shipping notification.

Thanks for posting about those Road Trips being available on Amazon U.S. and being shipped to England. I have just ordered 11/15/71.
That's something I will miss if the comments section goes - useful information about releases and shows that I could easily miss if it wasn't posted on here.

I also got shipping notices for both Daves 55 and Greyfolded from Imprec this morning. That latter one is supposed to arrive over the next day or so

Maybe they didn't add a comment section on the new release DaP 55 because the box hasn't been fully digested and they don't want to shift away from the box just yet?

I'm thinking this has to be a glitch that's somehow related to the whole website update that Marye mentioned, but right now #55 is showing as "sold out" over in the store. Either that or there is a lot more demand for the Zenith show than I would've guessed.

Watched a little bit of the In Our Eyes doc. Made me really really nostalgic for ye olden dayes. Recently someone mentioned having to leave a show early at a girlfriend's behest, and it brought back some memories.

There was a show in the early '80s, some out of the way outdoor venue like the Nevada County Fairgrounds or some such. I remember I actually won tickets by calling in to a radio station giveaway and of course I was stoked to go. My girlfriend at the time, who was super hot and totally crazy (a deadly combo every young man should experience at least once) did not like the Dead much. She agreed to come but complained the whole time, which was seriously harshing my mellow. Eventually, during drums/space, she claimed she couldn't take it anymore and I grudgingly agreed to leave, missing the last few songs.

It wasn't that much of a big deal, because in those days the Dead played around NorCal a couple dozen times a year so I knew I'd be seeing them again soon. But what I wouldn't give to be able to go back in time and hear even those last couple songs I missed out on.

Sigh. At least we have the tapes.

I have all my disks. I can see how that got screwed up. The white font on the yellow disk is difficult to read. Must be someone out there with an extra 26. Send a DM to MaryE; she’ll fix it.

Details of the Blues For Allah package, picked up on Imwan and Amazon this morning:

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Grateful Dead's ambitious 1975 album Blues For Allah, we have produced what we feel is the most eclectic 50th anniversary reissue since this series began in 2017. The 3-disc special release features the original album on Disc 1, remastered by David Glasser at Airshow Mastering, with tape restoration and speed correction by Plangent Processes. On Disc 2, we have nearly 45 minutes of nearly-live material from August 12, 1975 at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, the soundcheck the day before the Dead's famous show at the venue on August 13, 1975, all mixed from the 16-track analogue masters. Additionally, we have included the full Blues For Allah suite from the March 23, 1975 SNACK Benefit at Kezar Stadium, where the Dead played their first of four 1975 shows by debuting one of their most wild pieces of music they'd ever composed. Disc 3 features 75 minutes of live material recorded in June 1976 at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, PA, on the Dead's first tour after the release of Blues For Allah, and features all five of the Blues For Allah songs the Dead were performing live at the time: "The Music Never Stopped," "Help On The Way>Slipknot!>Franklin's Tower," and "Crazy Fingers," along with a half hour of additional material from the shows. This 50th anniversary reissue is packed with three hours of studio, soundcheck, and live material. It's a reissue unlike any other, just as Blues For Allah is an album unlike any other.

You get 3 more versions of it on the BFA 50th bonus discs according to Amazon (UK) Music (where they mistakenly list the Tower Theatre as being in Philly):

Disc 2 (Rehearsals on 8/12/75 + Snack Benefit)
Help > Slip > Franklin #1
Help > Slip > Franklin #2
King Solomon's Marbles
Crazy Fingers
Sage and Spirit
Blues for Allah (SF 3/23/75)

Disc 3 (Tower Theatre, June 1976)
The Music Never Stopped (Upper Darby 6/21/76)
Help > Slip > Franklin (Upper Darby 6/21/76)
Crazy Fingers (Upper Darby 6/22/76)
Comes a Time (Upper Darby 6/22/76)
Eyes of the World (Upper Darby 6/22/76)
Dancing in the Street (Upper Darby 6/22/76)

WOW - great sleuthing on this one, folks.
The 50th BFA release looks LIT!

Concur on the multi-H>S>F awesomeness as well as chunkz from the '76 Upper Darby shows.
I've been chasing that Eyes>Dancin' for quite some time after getting a boot of that show many moons ago.

Bring it!!!

Didn't see a sign in thingy for guest or otherwise.
But it all went quickly and smoothly.
Great concept and it's affordable!
BFA was the 2nd GD LP I ever bought (after EU72).
Cheers

I remember seeing BFA for sale at Weisies in Wisconsin in the 70s

I loved the art

This of course was before moving to Cali in 1980 and experiencing GRATEFUL DEAD two years later

Went on to the 7/11/81 Alpine Set II partial from ETR and then tracked down the rest of Set II - Stella Blue > Miracle > Going Down the Road > Saturday Night. E: Brokedown. Only circulates as an audience - listened to the recent CM remaster which uses an audience source after Other One. A solid pull of a hot show. Stella sounded awesome.

8/23/80 is a fine show - of course the first at Alpine which quickly became a classic summer shed in the Midwest. Slightly on the short side - they had a show the next night in Grand Rapids so maybe thinking a bit of travel time. Like Alpine until ETR, no circulating SBD of GR but I seem to remember a very nice audience pull being available and its a great show. Alpine was right on the heels of three hot nights at the Uptown (friend there, I missed.) Long thought that the first night of that run should be released but the circulating SBD is sorta lousy so who knows. And of course that summer '80 tour started out with the legendary Mississippi River Festival show on 8/16. From the reviews, show got hit by a real frog choker rain Set II and was very much electric. No SBD for that either - would love to hear that if it survived the deluge.
    -
Edit - been a long while since I've posted on the ETR thread and I want to say I really have enjoyed this box!

The Alpine Valley 8-23-80 (BC's 4th show he said) was a really good show. Solid most of the way through but maybe not amazing? Then wham, that ending series of songs just kept getting more supercharged. Must have left you guys smiling walking out BC.
But I'm here to rave about Hampton 5-1-81. Yes, I was under the influence by then late yesterday but I was completely taken aback by Jerry's wicked speed and accuracy. We all know he got faster as he went along but by the 90s there just wasn't as much in those runs as there used to be. But here in '81 he has it all. Every riff in the book on that Promised Land (GOAT? Certainly top 10), and the Uncle and Big River blew me away. It isn't just the speed and accuracy but all those mini fills and chords just cascading endlessly. I don't think I realized he had that in '81. This is why we all check out every show we can, regardless of era. You just never know when something like that will appear. Man he was on!
