Dave Curveball
Quite a few options here. I think I narrowed it down to a couple years. Got lots to do, so I may not be able to take a deep dive. I'll leave this one to the professionals.
tough one
don't think I'm gonna nail this one, pretty hard
Jack A Roe jammin!
Before you get on board, please note not to include your guess in the comments.
Oh, the truth to you, I'll tell, Jerry rips it on this Jack A Roe.
Doubting there will be as many that get this Day correct.
Some on you might find trouble on your mind unless you can narrow down your search quickly.
Enjoy!
There is a sound
I hear a sound and narrowed it down to about 100+shows over the time period mentioned. Long day ahead.Or my first guess. It reminds me of when Dave would put a BOX of Rain up and it took hours for everybody a few years back. So many awesome concerts I've overlooked .
Great rip!
Great Jack-a-roe! Got this one really quickly - only a couple options once you find the give away!
A fine year...
Got the year / era nailed down right away. Then it was just about listening to the 1st guitar solo.
Thanx
The give away as mentioned was found and that guitar solo nailed it.. Thanks to both of you. The sound I heard was there as well. I love the chase. My eyes and ears just do not work as well as they did,
Yikes this was a toughie
Finding the era was the easy part. Had to go through all the versions of the era (some twice) and couldn’t really find a giveaway hook. Had to focus carefully on the solos and the very ending and finally found what I think is it .
Guitar solo helps but if you…
Guitar solo helps but if you can quickly identify the song Bobby goes right into next it’s a lot easier to find it. If you cant …..
Got lucky (I think)
Used a little known feature of Deadbase X to narrow down the timing. Knew I had the right era. Seemed to synch. But I've been this sure before and been wrong so....
Cheers and best of luck!
Jer's Voice
That beautiful timbre and angst, gives the time period away, and a few other hints confirm (at least to my ears), but there are still many Jack-a-Roes to choose from. Could not think of a better way to spend time before the Chargers Kick off. Be Well You All!
It was played once in 84 and…
It was played once in 84 and twice in 85. It's definitely one of those versions.
Don't think its any of these…
Don't think its any of these, very little keyboard backing from Brent on all of them
Just diving in
Before getting into the search I decided to delve into the first year it was played, zeroed in the first time just hear Jerry's voice from that time ... just beautiful, 5/13/77
Auditorium Theatre what a venue. Never saw the Dead there but Furthur did some great shows there too.
The 30 Day Game
Every time I say to myself 'just download it' & don't try to guess the song, something compels me to try and figure it out. Like today, it sounds like a 1978, maybe a late '77 or early '79 at the last of the Keith & Donna era. How hard can it be?
***edit*** Damn! Now it sounds to me like there's Brent riffs in this tune, I'm lost again!
The contest was over, so it…
The contest was over, so it doesn't matter, but apologies for hints in the forum here.
Not so hard
I have always loved this little ditty. A keen ear will recognize the opening licks of the tune that comes after, making this one not so hard to locate.
Quick lyrics question for the experts out there. Song goes: "This couple they got married so (blank blank??) did agree, this couple they got married so why not you and me?" Anybody know what the "blank" or "blank blank" words are? Kind thanks.
That one line...
I always thought the line was "This couple they got married so rarely did agree. This couple they got married so why not you and me." Of course I could be wrong.
Lyrics
Thanks RiverSong66. That makes sense. I always thought it was "so WELL they did agree," or "so (somebody's name) did agree." Either way I never tire of hearing this song. It has a very long history way older than the Grateful Dead as I understand.
Lyrics
Well they did modify them from time to time ... didn't they?
"This couple they got married
So well, they did agree
This couple they got married
So why not you and me?"
Living on reds, vitamin C and cocaine ....ever since ... sex change".
So "rarely" also could make sense too.
Brass is right
i have always heard it as "so well they did agree", which makes the most sense.
Lyrics
I always thought it was “so well they did agree” also.
Having a tough slog today boys….
first timer
very curious to see how close my guess was. I'm excited to catch this year's 30 days of dead at the beginning of the month! this jack-a-roe is ripping from the start. loved the excuse to go through a handful of later era versions of Jack-A-Roe. also lovin' that stranger>mighty swell from queen city clt!
Tough slog
Indeed, I jumped back to one that was real close and am pretty sure I got it but these compressed files make it hard. I really keyed in on the piano which is much brighter in the online versions and of course the end transition.
A familiar dilemma...
This one's definitely findable. Lots of hints for me within the recording, particularly in the end and the beginning. Hmmm, perhaps I even heard a few bird tweets before the start.
And yet, once found, I wondered where I was.
Enjoy the ride!
Yes, a familiar dilemma
Poked around in a couple of specific years and then shifted gears and went a few years in a different direction. Found it pretty quickly then. I was actually at this show! Re: the dilemma - we've had it both ways over the years.
Lyrics-A-Roe
Thanks everybody for the thoughtful replies. I believe the correct lyrics are whatever we hear them to be and "well" works for me. Sorta like the marriage between us and 30DOD every November. Married well indeed!
Hint
I’m pretty sure I got it right. Pay close attention to the drumming.
none but jack the tailor
love Garcia's leads and Weir's haunting slide here. killer version from a hot era.
Easy Answers
This is one of those easy ones that’s not so easy, especially when answering the easy part of the answer!
Settle down easy! Just the other day learned that song was about Bobby’s dog Rose.
Happy 30DoD everyone!Took…
Happy 30DoD everyone!
Took me a little while, but not too bad. The mix on Archive is better than the one here as it has keys bumped up.
OF COURSE IT’S “SO WELL THEY DID AGREE-“ what else would it be?
So many hints floating around this year and it’s only day number 2
I’ll tell you the secret TOMORROW…
Venue name issue- and it’s only day number TWO!
Ticket stub? RELISTEN/Archive? DEADBASE?
I’m gonna go with the ticket stub (I found a picture out there amongst the Internets)- of course I was wrong every time last year when it was an issue
Not too hard
Listening to the give-away follow up tune and its a good one!
mysteries
If only So Well Did the venue names Agree!!
Downloading
I don't really have a reason to download the songs to my phone, but i tried it and it works fine. I have day 1 and day 2 songs on my phone.
Here I go getting sucked in again. :/
what to choose...
thought i might be slick and went through my picks previous years to see what to call it officially, but i had it down three or four ways. guess i never corrected my answers. this is one of the few songs they were spot on with almost every time so really have to pick out the hidden clues. did a quick look through on this one and found out i've only heard this live once. guess i just never picked. the right venue
